I have a 2003 mitsubishi galant that i bought for 750$ and i havent had to fix a single thing in the 4 months ive owned it, not a single problem has occured. I love this car.

We have an 03 aswell. It was parked in my gfs mom's garage for almost 10 years, just had to get a new battery, alternator and fix the starter. Its running smooth now, love the car.

My first car was a 2000 2.5V6 Galant with the Vr4 bodykit, bought already converted to LPG so was quite cheap to run. I sold it for a Mercedes E320 but i actually regret that - the Galant never made me feel like i had any less of a car. It was stunning and comfortable - had the best AC ive ever known and cheap to run - the Merc is a money pit. Although i had rusting rear arches, supposedly a "common" problem.
Still riding on my 1999 Galant V6 like a boss. No worries except some rust issues here and there :)
I bought my 1998 Galant brand new and sold it in 2007 with 265,000 km on it. Still miss it to this day. It was beautifully designed inside and outside compared to other cars at that time.

All you do is repeat the public opinion "I'll take German engineering over Japanese" which is a prejudice and evidently wrong as well. Look up any reliability consumer test from this millennium and you'll find the top 10 is Japanese cars and the bottom 10 contains BMW and Audi. The German reliability myth is purely advertising and misinformation. However this year Audi has been improving, making its way up the list in most reports.

They used to be quite a common sight though.

The Japanese cars I imagine would be cheaper to repair and maintain. Plus Mercedes-Benz went downhill after the 1993 Mercedes C Class I've read, then in 1998 came the Chrysler merger. Audis, BMWs, Volkswagens and Porsche are good, but even they've made some cars that weren't popular and had problems.
I have a 97 Galant Estate 2.5 litr V6 and have done more than 460k km with the original engine. This car is a beast and reliable. I suggest everybody who wants to buy a Galant just go ahead! You wont regret it.

+Ronny Kurniawan Still running my '97 Galant GLS EA0. Had to do wheel bearings, rear breaks and rust-removal a week ago but it's worth every cent. I'll drive my Mitsu till the bitter end and her keys have to be taken out of my cold dead hands.
They do sill look quite nice today. I would love to own either a Galant or Legnum VR4 of this generation as they are quite reasonably priced on the used market here in NZ.

To be honest, I wouldn't go for the VR4, engine maintanance is a bitch on the 6A13TT.
I'd go with the normal Galant EA0 and do an engine-swap with the 4G63T of an EVO8.
Except you want to go for the AWD, then a VR4 is better of course.

@@rextstxtic5272 actually its my first car. It was my Dad's, he gave it to me as a graduation gift. Still runs smoothly. The only thing i dislike about this car is the turning radius. Other than that it's a strong reliable car.

Still having 2003 Galant Station Wagon 2.0 (petrol). I have had quite lot of oportunities to drive many different cars and... not saying the Galant is the best in everything, but it is really solid and reliable car.. and moreover, during 6 years of running this car with 160 000 km (nearly 100 000 miles) I have not repaired any serious problem, only the common "consumer" things. And, frankly, other Japanese car (Accord, Avensis or Legacy) - no matter how good they are - were much more expensive to buy! So, Galant is really reliable and worthy car!
Fingers crossed, my V6 24V from the UK is still going strong. Fuel consumption a bit high with just a few problems easily sorted out. A nice car just pokey enough to move around.

You serious? I have this exact car and nothing but trouble before and during my ownership. Only 64k miles. Absolute shit engineering. Needed distributor, plug wires, all serpentine belts and more before i even got it. Now my door doese t even close. Latch is straight up broken. Had to replace the ball joint/ lateral arm and now the car doesent even run let alone start.
@@71sc502 My 98 v6 with 160k miles refuses to give up, its completely unkillable, so how you got these problems is beyond me, my family has had 3 galants and the reason they give up is because of rust since they aren't galvanized behind the rear passenger doors.

@@71sc502 I've only heard bad about the 4 cyls as well, the V6 seems to be bulletproof
@@71sc502 i had a v6, drove it for about 30k km within a year, the only issue i eventually had is slight hydro-knock due to a workshop putting the wrong oil in there.
Everything else was basic wear, aka tires, brakes, etc.
This engine is the most unbreakable thing in the world!!!
I had one with over 216,000 miles on it and it felt smooth and effortless to drive.

@@malevolenceXXXensues I've had a problem with the torque converter splines getting stripped twice... Is that a common problem?
@@mosabalbreaky9525 Never had that problem with mine, but I had snapped tie bars that weren't properly fixed.
Best car I ever owned. Regret selling it. 2002 Silver Galant with a custom VR4 cream interior. It was one of a kind.

Bougth my 2nd Gallant V6 two weeks ago. (Feb 2018) It's a 99! Everything works perfect! It's a mechanical miracle. I love this car!

I have a 2001 Mitsubishi Galant ES (automatic) and even tho it isn't a manual transmission, it still hauls ass and I've been able to burn some mustangs lol all I have to do now is get some small mods for it and an air intake and I'll be more ham happy with it, definitely a great and reliable street car that you can definitely have some fun with 👌🏼
omg really? we used to have this car (1997 ES) and it was absolute shit! maybe because many had problems in the us?
So just to offer a perspective, I have a 1998 2.5 V6 estate and besides some nasty rear fender rust, it's been about as reliable as anything I've driven. Had my friend pick up a 2002 2.4 liter 4-banger USDM saloon a couple of years, and it too has been very reliable. Hard to say the same for many newer cars on the market.

1997 -> 2020, remarkable that only rust can stop this car, i had one (1998 production model) it rusted like hell, now i have another (2002) less rust, time to rebuild that body with modern chemistry, after that it will be eternal
I have an 03 Galant ES and just hit 190 thousand miles. My timing belt broke 2ce recently and both times had no bent valves. The first time going about 2 miles an hour and the 2nd going 60 miles an hour. Guess I got lucky....this thing purrs like a kitten :)

My first car was a Galant Sedan, god it was underpowered and slow but a joy to drive none the less.. it's become rare and I'm so sad I sold it. I now have a 2012 Accord Coupe 2.4L.
rainmouse2 what year Galant? i got a 2001 2.0litre petrol 4G63 engine, and i think it's everything but slow! It won't outrun your Accord, but i'm sure it will pretty much keep up with it.
I had a 2003 Galant LS mine was a American Galant with the the 2.4L 4g64 I think? I know it was 140 horsepower and about 150 pounds of torque roughly.. it was also an automatic only a four speed. In the United States I'm pretty sure that we didn't get the option for the 4g63 2.0 liter version sadly. There was a V6 version but it was only a few horsepower difference.
+rainmouse2 That is a misconception. I honestly doubt any law abiding citizens can actually unleash 140 horsepower under legal speed limit.
The thing that made the V6 worth the extra was the extra torque it offers.

To me, it was rather descent pulling off and climbing up a hill from stationary, around town and most country roads and motorway.
The area in which the 4G63 N/A lacks is the extra oomph on the motorway and country road where a gradient appears. You really have to give it a fair bit of throttle to bring it up to the speed limit.
But overall, it is a pretty good engine for a private passenger car.
I paid £100 for my sport 24v estate, both head gaskets gone and bores filled with water, I had the heads skimmed and rebuilt the top end and its still going strong at 180k 👌
Irrelavent but i have a mitsubishi diamante 2002. Im sure within the next year its life will come to an end. Maybe less. Transmission shifts extremely rough. Rehardless. Thing drives like a dream especially at high speeds. Not a fast car but it picks up nicely and once you hit above 60 mph and you floor it it pulls hard.. This car was meant to be driven fast and at high speeds. I love it. Can keep up and pulls up to newer faster cars with no problem. Its a shame they discontinued it after the 2004 model. Sad to say i will be saying goodbye to mine, probably soon.

Mitsubishi gives you a 3yrs Unlimited mileage warranty...the Germans were not doing that....Mercedes only just started offering this incredible Warranty....Unlimited Mileage 👏

I thought a 2001 Galant 2.5L V6 sport automatic estate would be very reliable. But no, a money pit. And just 22 mpg!!! Needs a service every 9 months costing £500. When It came to its second major service it needed £3,500 spent on it. So I sold it for very little money. Now I drive a KIA and its a revelation. It was the worst car I have ever bought but it was the fastest and best looking.
