- Today, we have the pleasure to talk about our good friend Max Busser, on MB&F latest release, the Legacy Machine Thunderdome. A timepiece he has been dreaming of since quite a while. As the LM1, LM2 and LM101 the movement was developed in collaboration with Kari Voutilainen and to be able to add a spectacular kind of Gyrotourbillon, MB&F took on board Mr Eric Coudray.
The idea of Max for this timepiece was to manage to have the two greatest alive watchmakers working on the same project. The first one is Kari Voutilainen who indeed has been working for more than 10 years with MB&F and the second is Eric Coudray whom Max knows since his days at Jaeger-LeCoultre. That was where Eric invented the Gyrotourbillon, the first multi-axes tourbillon ever.
MB&F will produce only two pieces a month and it will be an initial launch series of thirty three pieces in platinum worldwide as well as ten in tantalum which will be only available at The Hour Glass boutique for their fortieth anniversary.

As soon as this was announced, this went straight into my number two slot on my grail list! 😍
I'd love the platinum version but with the darker blue guilloche dial from the tantalum The Hour Glass variation, and further the time dial to have a centre part inlaid with lapis lazuli and an outer section in enamel or white lacquer.
That would be my personal ultimate combo. 💙
However, any version of this is a WANT, and supremely droolworthy! 🤤

Great story great watch! A bunch of three thought it, and came to life amazing. The pattern of the face its like a blue mirror back round that highlights the cage! hats off genius thinking 💭.

I love this watch but still “ VIANNEY HALTER deep space resonance” is complex I feel but this is only thing I feel comes close to VIANNEY work truly a marvel

This gives me more of a Jacob n co astrónoma but still great time piece!
Its a great work again from them, but I am worried about the new "3D balance wheel", as more surface area means more air friction while oscillation. So, in order to compensate/counter this, they might also need to evacuate all air from the inside and create a vacuum.

Maybe stupid question but is the tourbillon needed for the actual time to be kept?
Wonder if these things could be used as engines for tiny machines. I mean, obviously yes they can move things they're watch engines, but it you used it to make some super aesthetic clockwork robot thing- this thing would be a beautiful core.
The sculpture thing in the middle isn't where the power comes from...its only responsible for regulating the unwinding of the spring, and the spinny spinny doesn't really help at all with that.

Nahh it'd just be a stylistic kinetic energy adaptor. I should've mentioned though that I don't expect something like this to be able to move much more than some tiny decorative flower.
At US$280K for the platinium , i will consider it a very competitively price compared to a RM

Anybody here think that this might be a good investment? It's beautiful mechanical art alright, but will the piece increase in value over time? Of course I understand that one could acquire this watch for purely esthetic reasons.
Only time will tell, but it's first and foremost a personal way to indulge oneself ;)
