  • General characteristics:
The glider has little tendency to enter a spin. In order to make spinning possible for training purposes or demonstrations a spin kit is available from the manufacturer. It consists of ballast discs applied to the tail to change the center of gravity according to the weight of the crew. With this device the ASK 21 when slowed to stall speed with rudder input drops one wing and begins to rotate. Recovery is standard, utilizing neutralized ailerons, full opposite rudder until the rotation stops and then centralizing the rudder, relaxing back pressure to break the stall, and then easing the stick back to pull out of the dive.

it's so nice to have all the data on screen! thanks! I'll be doing my spin training on the ASK-21 next spring and then I'll be flying solo :)

Have enjoyed all your videos. I fly paragliders and paramotors and used to fly general aviation...BUT soaring has been an eventual goal since I was a kid. Your videos have all been both inspiring and educational. Thanks!

    Nice video :)
There is an other way to enter on a spin: you just have to pull your stick while going straight (not turning) and when you're about to stall, you push your rudder at 100% on the side you want to enter the spin. If it doesn't work well (depends on the glider that you are flying), you can also still pulling your stick but adding some left or right could help.
    Fly safe !

If you read the manual, it is the way enter in a spin. The other think that the manual say, is you have to be in a good cg position to enter in a spin, otherwise it will never enter. The cg position as to be aft position, and sometime you need to put some weight on the tail to bring the cg on the aft position.

Yep, but with two normal size people up front, the ASK-21 won't really spin no matter what you do. If you're lucky, you might get half a revolution out of it, before it simply starts flying again on its own.

True but it is best for training to enter the spin from a scenario such as a flat over ruddered turn or a spin off of a failed winch launch

As your instructor as stated a ASK 21 is not an aircraft that spins easily how ever you are getting some good Spiral dives .There is a Kit you can get for the ASK-21 to make it spin. There are how ever Gliders that spin well and I suggest that you that you go get some time in a glider that Spins with a Qualified instructor as it may Save your life while flying one day. some of the more advanced Sailplanes have some Very Aggressive Spin characteristics and if you are flying alone one day and it goes on you it will Scare you I am sure enjoy you gliding and get some spin training

Roy, you've got to be really familiar with spins and you would do well to find a glider which spins fully (e.g. a Puchatek). What's your requirement for spin training? My biennial flight review always includes a spin.

I noticed you don't wear a helmet, Is not required as a regular plane. I would love to fly in this baby and do the spin too. :)

" I have it" from the instructor, I have what? A cold, covid, or a mental illness?????. I have control is what the instructor should have said. This is clear and leaves no doubt, the P2 should have responded "You have control" and vice versa when handing back control to the P1. Some very bad examples of bad airmanship in this video
