Taylor Swift’s New Album is Blasphemous | Guest: Kristen Waggoner | Ep 990

  • Last week, the Department of Education released its new Title IX rule, expanding the prohibition against discrimination to include discrimination based on “sex stereotypes, sex-related characteristics (including intersex traits), pregnancy or related conditions, sexual orientation, and gender identity.” We discuss what this means for American girls and women. Plus, Kristen Waggoner, President of the Alliance Defending Freedom, joins the program to discuss these changes and the ADF's efforts in combatting transgender policies. How can parents stand up for their daughters and against these evil ideologies? And Taylor Swift released a new album with some problematic lyrics, particularly in the song, "Guilty as Sin." How should Christians respond?

As an ex-swiftie, I think Taylor swift is so calculated. It worries me why she’s so catchy now. She sings so much about killing too.. it’s odd. I honestly felt convicted to not listen to her anymore after false God. And then I was interested in her new album, but googled all the lyrics before listening. Then was disgusted. “Put narcotics into all of my songs. And that's why you still singing along.”

I think sometimes when people are raised in the church they are numb to the distractions and evil pulling at them. We come from the world. We recognize the lies we have been told and how deep the roots go. I was talking to a friend about this yesterday. She was raised Catholic but now has goes to a nondenominational church. She was saying how the closer she gets to God the more she sees the demonic affecting people and the world around her. We were actually talking about Taylor Swift.

If we can't sing it to a child OR to Jesus' face, we shouldn't be singing it at all. I threw away Marvin Gaye's Midnight Love multiple times under conviction because I couldn't play it in front of my children. I'm a slow study. My son was on a nature outing one day and he literally found Midnight Love in the forest. He was a young adult so I told him my history with that album.

I’m literally shocked at how poorly Allie addressed this issue. Wow. Why even waste time asking if we are holding her to a Christian standard when she’s not a Christian. That’s not the the problem here. The problem is Christians defending and justifying Swift’s actions because they like her/her music. Bree is a perfect example. Like was she serious when she tried to correct the fact that not all the songs were blasphemous only a few?! Oh okay, well if it’s just one song mocking Jesus, His crucifixion, holiness then it’s okay. I have no words for how utterly disappointing this segment was. And for Allie to platform an opinon like Bree’s and just kind of brush it off like, yea people are going overboard makes me wonder if Allie is more concerned with not offending her friend/ employee then speaking the truth about how Christiana are responding to this music. When someone mocks Christ we are called not only to separate ourselves from that but to also speak out against it-as Allie does so well on so many issues but today was a total failure to do so and it was really sad to see.

@@itsspiritual8645 lots of people claim to be Christians and their behavior screams otherwise. This is why Jesus says so many times in the book of Revelation that we are not to be deceived. Taylor Swift has made many songs and videos telling Christians to calm down about the homosexuality issue. Her last concert she did a witches ritual and she has publicly proclaimed to be a witch.
2 Corinthians 6:14. Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. For what partnership has righteousness with lawlessness? Or what fellowship has light with darkness?
I think Christ spells it out very clearly for us in this Word. We should definitely pray for these people because it is not the will of God that any man should perish. Pray for them, but we are called to separate ourselves from this. Pray for her. And let's not forget the scripture that says that many will come saying Lord Lord, we cast out demons in your name and we heal the sick in your name and the Lord will say to them depart from me for I never knew you, you workers of iniquity. I’m a Christian and a teenager, and I’d consider myself a fan of Taylor Swift, but yeah after this album I really didn’t like some of the imagery she had and everything. Sometimes I feel that should give up her other music and stuff (even though I’m pretty strict with what songs I listen to) but it’s so hard when that’s a lot of my playlist and all my friends listen to her and I’ve spent money or whatever. The more “mature” she gets, the more I start to realize that I may need to make a sacrifice.

On the contrary, the first 5 years of a child’s life before they ever step into a school are by far the most important & shape everything to come. If a parent has laid the foundations, created healthy attachments, shown them a safe space to land & nurtured the development of resilience & confidence they won’t go far wrong. I disagree about Taylor @ Allie (& Bri specifically)... if we are Christians, we don't need to be partaking. We have to separate ourselves from worldly things. And Taylor, like/ love her or not, is VERY worldly. Whether or not she *claims* to be Christian or is held to a higher standard than her other contemporaries or not is of no real consequence. The ever-so-popular "nuance" rebuttal doesn't apply in this situation. The call of the Christian, like you said, is to reach for higher things. So it's pretty simple: if you are a Christian, you shouldn't partake. We have stopped listening to her admittedly "catchy/ talented" music BECAUSE of this very fact. As you said earlier: COUNT THE COST.

She went from being a sloppy tween scribbling in her journal when she went into hiding to a polished master of prose, imagery, and suspense when the Nazi's kicked in the door.
The best chapter was the last, that's the one everyone remembers.
The moral of the story to unsophisticated people is "don't be a Nazi, or someone who lets other people get killed by Nazis"; to intelligent people the moral of the story is "practice your writing, vocabulary and editing, and you can master the art of creating quality prose, by the time you are 16, but try not to get sent to Auschwitz to die, nobody wants that for you."
Anyway, the Anne Frank House was taken over and now it's a Mossad Propaganda Outlet, her memory is being exploited for Jewish and Israeli Propaganda.

This discussion reminds me of the scripture that says what business does light have with darkness?? If Taylor Swift represents any type of darkness or ungodliness what business do we have as Christians listening to even one of her songs or entertaining her as an artist whatsoever. We represent Christ and holiness, which means being set apart and not getting wrapped up in the excitement and whirlwind of these types of things. Sisters, we’ve got to stand strong in the Lord. instead of intellectually trying to figure this out, Take a moment to ask the Holy Spirit does it please God‘s heart for us to be taking this type of thing in?

You need to do a deeper dive into TS.
Allie, take the lyrics off her new album and read them to a middle school Sunday school class and see how you feel about them then. Sure a 30+ something person has the ability to chew the meat and spit out the bones to a large degree. But people give themselves way too much credit in that regard. What you put into your mind influences you. And you should guard your heart. To get to where she is, she had to make a decision to serve the one in control of the this world.

Do you believe He rose from the grave on the third day after His death and ascended into Heaven forty days later? Just a few pointed questions that all Christians should believe. @@sharonhoward884This is a classic misuse of this verse. Respectfully, it is not good practice to take a verse in isolation and then use it as an “aha! Gotcha!” to try to win an argument. Ironically, you are doing the exact thing you accuse the other commentator of doing - cherry picking and misusing a verse to suit your narrative. The complete verse you refer to in Matthew is a warning as to HOW we judge, the nature and heart behind our judgment and what measure we use to judge (as we will be held to the same standard of measure that we use for others). Here is a little additional commentary from a solid Bible commentary: “Just a little later in this same sermon (Matthew 7:15-16), Jesus commanded us to know ourselves and others by the fruit of their life, and some sort of assessment is necessary for that. The Christian is called to show unconditional love, but the Christian is not called to unconditional approval. We really can love people who do things that should not be approved of.” (David Guzik) This verse may possibly be the most misused verse of our day (often with well meaning but misguided intent). I have certainly misunderstood many passages in the Bible as well, which is why it is so important for us all to read and study our Bibles continuously. I will say, while the questions are valid, the tone of the comment you responded to is questionable. There are likely better ways to word those thoughts.

My mom is 57. She said she started listening to her because someone told her that her teen grandchild (my 15 year old) would. She doesn't. I used to listen to and enjoy her, but then I felt it was toxic. About the same way I look back at my childhood and thi k of hoe much I listened to Shania Twain and those songs gave me a poor view of a relationship compared. I’m around the same age as Taylor, so I understand the comment about “growing up with her.” It’s hard to break away from listening to her because I related so well to her earlier albums. But we must admit to ourselves that she is slowly influencing us in the wrong direction.
Fortnight is about an adulterous relationship between neighbors. And even though the author is suffering consequences of the adultery, there is still a lure towards the adulterous relationship. Since most of her listeners are probably young mothers/wives like myself, this song and obsession with “forbidden love” is very dangerous. Maybe you can listen to it and separate those thoughts in your mind. But if you’re like me, it can be hard to NOT insert myself into her songs. Especially since I most definitely inserted myself into songs like Love Story and Wonderstruck.

Another thing is intentionality. Personally I don't think she cares about God enough anymore to be deliberately shaking her fist at Him. She was just careless. Still sin but there's a difference between someone ignorantly using allegory and someone shouting "God is evil" or claiming to be God like many have. She's not doing that.

Not gonna lie, I felt duped by this title. I should have looked at time stamps to see it would take an hour to get to Taylor Swift. Maybe the title should have been more reflective of content, though?

Taylor didn’t invent the word “era”, she didn’t even coin the way it’s used by gen Z loool it was already a trend on social media that Taylor used, it’s nothing original to Taylor

I hope you all keep this same energy for every movie you watch and every bit of entertainment you consume. There better be no blasphemy and swearing and killing in them. Or are you just singling Taylor swift out?

The difference is, when you are in love with a singer, you are frequently listening to their songs, singing them, humming them, etc. You are basically meditating on it. When I watch a movie with a killing scene or blasphemy, either I turn it off or I simply won’t watch that movie again. And yes, Christians should avoid movies with those things in them 🤷🏻‍♀️ Jesus doesn’t tell us that it’s ok to enjoy things that’s blasphemous because it’s just for fun.

@@thunder4910 I agree with that. I just have noticed that most of the people I see criticizing Taylor swift watch Harry Potter, curse, read books with questionable content etc… feels very hypocritical

@Alliebeth , I think you could have taken a stronger stance. You had the bible verses to back it up, but it seemed like you were afraid to disagree with Bri and possibly offended many listeners. According to you, we are supposed to do the next right thing, in faith, with excellence, to the glory of God. How can singing TS lyrics possibly glorify God?
The bible says to"... put to death what belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desire, and greed, which is idolatry." TS lyrics are dripping with all of these things.
"No foul language (or song lyric) should come from your mouth, but only what is good for building up someone in need, so that it gives grace to those who hear"
The lack of a stand that was taken in this segment has made the right people mad. I pray that you would consider being bold on this issue, not just TS, but questionable music as a whole.
