- The F-4 Phantom II was to be replaced by the navy's new all-weather swing-wing fighter. This footage from the National Archives shows the first operational squadrons (VF-1 and VF-2) to take off and land on a US Navy carrier.
USS Enterprise (CVAN-65) having been refitted at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, was able to operate the new fighters off the West Coast. All footage is from March 18, 1974.
Man I really wish they didn't decommission the F14 Tomcat it was an awesome fighter.
