Four years of religion classes (at BYU), Institute classes and a lifetime of studying Church history at Sunday School and I don’t remember hearing any of this. This is Amazing work by these two scholars. Thank you so much for all your long, hard work!!😊

Jury Nullification is Mosiah 29. The Maxim of Law " The voice of the people is the voice of God". For better or worse Jury Nullification is what the jury has the duty to do at all times. It is simply the peoples voice of conscience to right a wrong unless the blood of the innocent be upon the people. If lds still believed in jury Nullification Utah wouldn't be such a boot licking police state with all of Lucifers tools running the show and it's just a show

I feel the same way about the mob in Kirtland who tarred and feathered Joseph Smith, and he preached the next day. What I didn't know until after 50 years old is that he was killed and had a near death experience. No wonder the mob left. They thought they had finished the job. No wonder they were shocked the next morning!

Dallin H. Oaks shared the story of Robert Scott and Dennison Harris back in an October 1997 general conference talk. (Dennison was the son of Emer Harris, Martin Harris's older brother.) He didn't share all the details told here, but one detail he did mention was that after Joseph learned what the boys had told him, he advised the boys, for their own safety, to not tell anyone else what they knew of the conspiracy for at least 20 years.

Awesome story!! I just wish Cardon would shut up long enough for them to tell it! I found myself yelling at the screen on multiple occasions, as he took his over the top surfer bro lingo “Woah Dude” (which is fine by me) Only to then ADHD his way into side track after side track of unrelated word vomit that adds nothing to the topic we came to hear about. It just eats up the guests time, and clearly wrecks their concentration, and derails their presentation! Brother Cardon, I’m a big fan, and have watched just about every episode put out over the last 2 years. This is something that has really bothered me from time to time, but I have let it go in the past, because I realize that you gotta be Cardon. Coming at you with love, respect, and a decent dose of “bro ribbing”, I ask you to please consider, that sometimes “Less is More”! You can be you, and still be considerate of the fact that you do lay it on too thick sometimes, and it becomes a serious determent to flow of the show. I hope you’ll take my “constructive criticism” with all the love, respect and desire for you and the show to be successful in the future. Still a big fan! Still going to watch, like, and share…. But I couldn’t hold it in this time bro! I had to say it! Dial it back a bit brother!

From the sounds of it there are plenty more colorful characters that were once faithful Saints in Zion, that eventually turned coat, some of which became murderers. Just imagine what it would be like to be in their shoes just before they left this life, and then to be met at the Veil, if they ever made it that far, to stand to account for those evil acts. Imagine the fear and torment that they went through, and will continue to go through hereafter. Sucks to be them for sure.

It's completely dishonest to claim that a non-member (excommunicated) made a documentary film about Joseph and Hyrum Smith's death. He was 100% a member when the film came out. After it was published, He was called into a council and excommunicated because his documentary film were opposed to the 12 and the film was causing people to question their faith in the official martyrdom story.
None of the facts were disputed in this council meeting.
    He filmed it! It's online.

    • @brianstutzman5037

Yep he is an excommunicated member. I think we clearly show his movie holds no water. And we discussed this him and I on this show, and Taylor Smith did, and showed how his theory really does not hold water. Taylor had a rifle ball in his hand for example. Brigham could not have known any of this as he was in Boston so he could not have arranged it. The mob eventually shelled Nauvoo in the Battle of Nauvoo and neither side ever said it was an inside job. It could not have been, and the mob admitted to it in the newspaper!
In my view that is liked saying Pearl Harbor was an inside job. Crazy to think it was some sort of inside job JUST AS THE MOB fired into the room.

There are so many narratives. Especially about the martyrdom. No 2 accounts agree with eachother.
Brigham Young claiming the throne after the martyrdom does not mean that he was called to be a prophet. And it doesnt prove there wasn't an inside job
The fact he took over would only increase the chamces that he had something to do with it 😂
Also the strongest evidence that joseph smith is a polygamist brought forth here is that the expositer talked about it, quite hilarious. Let's believe the Anti 😂.
Polygamy was never taught or lived by Joseph. Also, the JST of the Old Testament taught those polygamists were living in sin, but mysteriously, the church doesn't publish it in the footnotes because it contradicts 132. Actually, everything joseph taught contradicted brigham Young.
Section 132 wasbeing added later, we are being lied to that it was from Joseph Smith. How dare they smear eternal marriage with polygamy. It was never the same thing.
The BOM taught against polygamy. The D+C taught against it. JOSEPH TAUGHT AGAINST IT. the JST translation taught against it.
This narrative being pushed is the same half truths that has been lied to members since Brigham Young.
This is all about a theory about how the US govt. Tried to kill Joseph Smith, we all wanted to actually hear the sources, was there any delegates that spoke out? I thinkni tdoes apprmear to be a bigger plot than we thought.
Talk about the theory and the sources.
but in it, they are trying to establish falsehoods about Joseph Smith. So sad. Stop smearing the name of Joseph Smith. I wish the members would stop claiming he was a polygamist. He talked with God. H received scripture. Lets focuse on that.
Also, Claiming Brigham being transfigured is quite hilarious. 😂😂
I like to see shows like this because it shows how far apart they are from the evidence.
Ward Radio does a good job getting all of the Spectrum on here, and he does a great job hearing people out
But why would John Taylor have gone to see the Governor before the martyrdom? Maybe he was part of or the actual organizer of the delegates?
Especially because Ford is claiming to be like Pilot. Who was the Judas? Lets talk about that.
This account being 20 years later, interesting, but total here say, but i think its good to get all these accounts in the open
listening to these 3 was like reading the new Saints Volumes. Total propaganda and taking liberties trying to push an agenda.
Crazy to see how early church history gets censored and changed, now more than ever. Imagine how hard it is for Christ to see this. Just like plain and precious truths being changed from the bible.
I do think the ideas Joseph was running on would have won the election of 1848. He was a total abolitionist, that what this episode probabley should have focused on

The first five reasons are contained in the same verse:
      1. To multiply and replenish the earth
      2. To fulfill the promise.
      3. For their exaltation.
      4. That they may bear the souls of men.
      5. That they may be glorified. (D&C 132:63)
      6. As a test for men and women. (D&C 132:51)
      7. To raise up seed, “for if I will, saith the Lord, raise up seed unto me, I will command my people; otherwise they shall hearken unto these things (monogamy).” (see Jacob 2:30)
One additional possible reason I've seen mentioned is to ensure the Church was kept separate from mainstream apostate Christianity. If you look at the RLDS church, who didn't practice plural marriage and denied for many years that Joseph practice it, they have become essentially just another Protestant church.

Here’s a partial answer (and God seems to always have MULTIPLE reasons for everything He asks of His followers) …
Though polygamy has been painted as a selfish and horrible, immoral thing (essentially “legalized adultery”), look at the reality for many of these plural wives: they, with their first husbands (couples-one wife, one husband: many from Europe) had left everything behind (disowned by family and community in many cases) to join a faith and a consecrated community, only to have their husbands killed by mobs.
In a world where men in high positions would hire prostitutes without batting an eye (along with so many other forms of pleasure without responsibility: legal and illegal), these men unselfishly took on the responsibility of provider-not to mention political and social dangers-without any guarantee of the benefits one might hope for in a typical marriage.
Positive, proactive and prepared: it’s the pattern of prophets, and in this case, it gave some sense of hope and dignity in caring for so many otherwise homeless families as they fled to-and built-a new home in the Rockies.
I know that not all-especially not at first-polygamous marriages involved widows, but there definitely were stories like these, and the UNselfishness of these people: the men AND the families they already had, not to mention those joining them-amazes me.

    • @wendyray7895
      @wendyray7895 2 місяці тому +1

There’s a whole different conversation about the legal side of the story, including laws (some enacted by characters who were involved in the martyrdom) specifically targeting polygamy, made and enforced retroactively during the early Utah years.
God also asked them to move to Missouri even though “Mormonism” would become illegal there.

    • @wendyray7895
      @wendyray7895 2 місяці тому +3

Here’s a partial answer (and I think God usually has MULTIPLE reasons for things He asks, and sometimes different reasons on an individual basis)…
Polygamy is so often painted as this twisted sort of “legalized adultery”; as a horrible, selfish thing that no decent person would ever be a part of.
Think of the context here: in many cases, here’s how it played out…
A family somewhere in Europe listens to some missionaries, joins the church and comes to Zion-in many cases being disowned by family and community somewhere in the process.
They join a community of people who are trying to follow God, and are facing all kinds of unforeseen challenges. Things get really crazy and Dad gets killed by a mob. Multiply this story by dozens of families, all who become refugees.
For many of these families, polygamy meant that another family would watch over and provide, even if they were already struggling.
Contrast that with many contemporary American men who would hire prostitutes (though adultery was illegal) and act like it was no big deal, while vilifying these men for taking on all the responsibility but no guarantee of popularity or even pleasure for it.
I know that not all polygamist marriages involved widows, especially at first, but a willingness to lead out in that degree of unselfishness paved the way for needy families soon after: though enemies used it against them, at least their community could support their “new normal” as traumatized women and children were taken into families as they all fled to and built a new home in the Rockies.

MAIN REASON: SIFTING. To test the faith of his real saints. To sift the people who were not real saints. Same as when the practice was finished. Same with the ban on the priesthood. Same with 1978 priesthood revelation. Same with the policy to not allow children of LG-$%^ people to be baptised until after 18yrs (on individual case by case basis allowing it). Same with reversing that policy. Same with the letter in Aug 2021- which gave room for both decisions - take the pointy thing or not. • @isaac_steinberg
    @isaac_steinberg 2 місяці тому

Uh, the constitution doesn't allow the president to just get involved and enforce state laws and yes the enforcement of almost all laws regarding crimes is reserved to the States.
The constitution says that the federal government has the obligation to protect each state from internal violence when and only when the State legislature asks for help or if the State legislature cannot meet then the executive of the State can ask.
Joseph as mayor of Nauvoo had no legal authority to ask the federal government to get involved.
Same thing in Missouri before that. We like to give the federal government a bad wrap for not protecting the church but literally anyone who had read the constitution understood that they couldn't legally do anything.
The first amendment only protects the freedom of religion, speech, the press, and assembly from Congress, and so if a State decided to regulate and ban a particular religious group or type of speech there was nothing the feds could legally do to stop it.
This is why state constitutions were and are so seriously important.

      Dear Brother B Young,
There has been for several days a great excitement among the inhabitants in the adjoining counties. Mass meetings are held upon mass meeting, drawing up resolutions to utterly exterminate the saints. The excitement has gotten up by the Laws, Fosters, and the Higbees, and they themselves have left the city, and are engaged in the mob. They have sent their runners into the State of Missouri to excite them to murder and bloodshed, and the report is that a great many hundreds of them will come over to take an active part in murdering the saints. The excitement is very great indeed.
It is thought by myself and others for you to return without delay, and the rest of the Twelve and all the Elders that have gone out from this place, and as many more good, faithful men as feel disposed to come up with them. Let wisdom be exercised; and whatever they do, do it without a noise. You know we are not frightened, but think it best to be well prepared and be ready for the onset; and if it is extermination, extermination it is of course.
Communication to the others of the Twelve with as much speed as possible, with perfect stillness and calmness. A word to te wise is sufficient, and a little powder, lead and a good rifle, can be packed in your luggage very easy without creating any suspicion.
