It was my first time at Grissom and it was a blast! I struggled with the car pushing on the test and tune course and ran out of time before I could sort it out. Thankfully, chatting with the other drivers from my region, I went into Saturday with a plan on how to handle it that mostly involved how I was driving along with a slight further increase in rear rebound.
The car felt great on Saturday but there were a few sections of the course that I was never happy with how I drove. Sunday was much better! I surprised myself with my time on my first run (50.474s) and improved from there. For my third run (49.815s), I went into it with three changes in mind: Set up better for the initial left turn so I could be on throttle earlier and enter the slalom faster, look ahead better in the slalom as on the video, you can see I'm late on throttle exiting, and to carry more speed into the first right after the prison turn. Other than the first, I succeeded in these changes but made errors elsewhere, such as entering the prison turn too hot and losing 0.3s which completely negated the gains from the right hand after it. All in all, I am very happy with how I did in the event and look forward to Nationals in a few weeks!
