- Kevin Costner's new Western epic 'Horizon: An American Saga - Chapter 1' is being slammed by critics following its premiere at the Cannes Film Festival. 'Horizon: An American Saga - Chapter 1' is the first film in writer, director & star Costner's massive four-picture gamble that he famously leveraged one of his homes to help finance, spending $38 million out of pocket for the $90 million-budgeted film. And while the movie received a 10-minute standing ovation at Cannes, the reviews so far have been overwhelmingly negative.

To hell with critics just buy a ticket and make up your own dam mind
But I liked Waterworld.
I love Waterworld and Wyatt Earp.
And I've never come across a critic worth considering.
😂
It's a interesting movie with pacing issues and some bad writing.
Postman also wasn't nearly as bad as critics said.
"Maybe he answers to Charles?"
“Critics slammed”, which means it will be a great movie.
HELL YEAH! Epic candle burn slow westerns are what built cinema! nothing but love for Costner for using his wealth to keep them alive.
The 10 minute standing ovation says more than any critic
Critics are often self-important and out of touch. Many reviews I read from them are more focused on making an argument than on giving a down-to-earth & comprehensible assessment of what they just watched.
Critics push a message. There's so often a disparity between the critic review and the public.
Yeah I was wondering if this was the case and just read a review that slipped in "It's confusing that the indigenous people are depicted as bad guys until later we understand a little of their motivations". So basically, this film doesn't fit "the message".
@@TheRedman790 Exactly. Because it doesn’t fit the movie they WANT to see. I remember similar sounding critiques of Martin Scorsese’s film last year “Killers of the Flower Moon.” I am much more interested to read from reviewers who actually try to see and appreciate what the director is going for. That’s Art 101 as far as I’m concerned.
👍🏻
I would hope all adult have learned that the "critics" have no idea what they are talking about or have their opinions bought.
Wouldn't miss it Mr.Costner..You've put your heart and soul into telling this story..Can't wait.😊
It’s coming out next month and we’ll wait for the critic reviews to show up. But, c’mon THR. It’s Kevin Costner.
Critics bombing the movie not because they are critics but more because they are activists. I would take ZERO stock of what any of them have to say.
Is this film woke? I want to go see it but don't want to waste money on woke trash which is 90% of hollywood today.
If the critics say negative things that means it is a truly great movie 💃😊
No DEI is real reason critics hate it
C'mon, it can't be that bad. Michael Rooker is in it!
I'm going. Only three movies I plan on watching in 2024: Dune and the two Horizon movies
Un grandissimo attore e regista . Un attore che sta fuori dalle pagliacciate e dallo star system Hollywoodiano. I suoi film sopratutto i western evidenziano le ingiustizie che hanno subito i nativi indiani.
Reasons why the critics hate it:
1) This new generation of critics hate any type of "Americana" filmmaking.
2) Not enough diversity probably.
3) The length and scope is too much for their Tik Tok brains.
could be true...
Man, i swear u guys are jealous of this man
Throughout history, people have resented integrity, beauty, and valor and attempted to tear things down that threaten their limited view of the world. Envy and Resentment are powerful emotions.....
If the critics don’t like it that means it’s probably a masterpiece. They’ve all complained about movies not being woke enough over the last nine years. you’ll look at the rotten tomatoes scores and the critic scores will be 1 star in audience scores will be 5 stars. These critics live in a bubble they know nothing.
I love kevin Costner, but these standing ovations that last more than a minute are beyond ridiculous.
Have you seen any of the movies ?
@@nicolasdrisset813 it's not about the movies. It's some kind of strange Cannes ritual where each audience tries to outdo the last one. 30 seconds is more than enough.... after that it just feels disingenuous
Oh critics slam away the truth will be in the reaction of the crowds and crowds that are going to go and see this movie and enjoy it
critics are the actors who failed
You are trying really hard to ruin its success...
But muh DEI
❤
Who cares what this critic said?? Let me see the movie first, I will comeback for my own review!
I bet it’s better than the so called movie Barby .🤨
Maybe the critics hate it because it's NOT woke.
Exactly … they hate America and the history. They want our history to be erased not shown in a massive movie.
are you sure it's not woke? I want to go see it but dont want to spend my money on woke trash which is most of hollywood today
Sounds like it's this generation's "Heaven's Gate"
if it's slammed by woke critics, it's gotta be amazing
Hey Kevin, Im right here.
Hus show yelliwstone was so violent i couldnt watch it this show sounds just as horrific i woukd never watch it sounds horrible whx dies he make such violent films?
This film is being criticized because does not fit with their agenda
I'm sure its sgood movie, but if a film doesn't have any "agenda folks" in it, they they pan everything. Yet this weak dull conflict avoident romantic comedies are considered cinema.
Nice, critics disslike it! Probably not woke!
Put some lesbians in it, critics would love it.
You can't trust critics.
Excellent idea! Why not have them?
Doesn’t impact critic outlook, as other films have demonstrated.
I’d question those upset if they were in it (or anything) though for sure.
@@Sam-vi3johahahaha.
Leabians in the old west.
You're the problem with modern media.
@@Sam-vi3jocmon
Don't for no reason add one dimensional people who define themselves by their attractions.
Although many things are improved with the addition of lesbians, if that’s what you think critics judge movies by, you’re reading/watching bad critics. Broaden your horizons
@@zenquantum1246 have more depth than what's in your pants
“ReeeeeEeeeeEEeeeee! It represents history”! ~ The Woke Left
"Slammed by critics" = "Normal people who don't want to get decked in the teeth by constant, brusque virtue signaling will probably like it."
If this movie is successful, they will go after Costner hard in trying to cancel him. No DEI = You're the enemy.
In Cannes, a ten-minute standing ovation means your movie is garbage.
I think he us doing nithing but producing violent films nothing that i woukd br proud of as an actor
Your opinion us nithing.
I will go by what the critics say. Cinema tickets are expensive and I don't want to see a bad film. Most films that have high positive reviews, I enjoy like Oppenheimer, Godzilla Minus One, Killers of the Flower Moon all got over 90% on rotten tomatoes and were all great films
This is a 4 picture plan?? This is a massive risk that I’d be willing to bet my life on, it will fail. Nobody wants this kind of story today, and even fewer are willing to pay for a movie like it, let alone 4 films. I can’t believe he would do something so ridiculously short sided.
Probably would've worked better as a limited series to be honest since it's four films
Probably a problem with the culture more than his films.
The fact that this is **FOUR** full-length movies was news to me. A two-parter seemed risky - but plausible - path to an unconventional success. A four-part self-financed series just sounds like Costner didn’t have anyone who could tell him to stop
@@zenquantum1246 he makes decent films
I'll watch
@zenquantum1246 To me it sounds like someone would've advised him against this. Two parter, sure I can see that! Risky, but like you said plausible. A trilogy, not impossible but unlikely to yield any true success but a four parter 💀 sounds like he went out of his way to make this a film. Probably still thinks TV is a lesser format and wanted it to be on the silver screen/do the festival circuit etc. He could've just pitched it to HBO, FX or Apple as a eight part miniseries/limited series. I have a feeling he didn't want it to be compared to any of Taylor Sheridan's western series lol his ego blinded him
Looks trash
What ..!!! Do you have Seen the Trailer ..?? Looks trash ..??? You are blind or idiot …. lol
