I almost bought a Vyper chair but they dont offer free shipping and well for the cost of a chair it should be. What really drove the last nails for me for never buying something off them is when they offer "free" shipping you will see they raised the price of the chair by $25 from the previous day so there is never free shipping and the biggest offense to me. I had it in my cart and when I decided I didnt want it. I actually got a call the next day from Vyper trying to push the chair on me. Sorry but I did not ask for the solicitation of them trying to push the chair by personally calling me. So never will be one in my garage.

This is the most honest review of the vyper chair on UA-cam. Question for you, does your post wobble inside the shaft when you move around on the chair? Mines wobbles and it's driving me crazy. It feels cheap for such an expensive chair.
It doesn’t move too much have not really noticed so far. Most reviews on UA-cam on on the higher end model or were given to them. Hard to come from that value standpoint when you didn’t dig into your wallet. I find it hard sometimes when I get review stuff to look at it from that point of view as well.
@@CarsWithKeav next time you sit on your chair push the seat back and forth and see if the chair and base wobbles where the post enters the shaft. I'm going to tap threads in my shaft and install thumb screws to hold the post in place. Then the chair will feel solid like it's one piece.
I picked up the same Viper chair without the caddy attachment. I did get the protector for the rear. So far so good for my needs. My old one use to jack up my ankles but not with the Viper one like you. Lol
I think it’s all in how we sit and use our legs with the chair. I tend to bend my legs back a bit more putting my ankles in danger. The caddy was my big mistake what a waste to me. The protector is a must, but for the cost they should just have that as standard especially if they are charging shipping.
Obviously it depends on what you’re using any chair for. You can come up with excuses for or against any chair as well. Every time I turn around I’m replacing the castors on my HF chair. Don’t have that issue with the Vyper. You also don’t need to put the caddy or the back on there if you’re concerned about room to store it. It took getting used to but once I did, I wouldn’t have another HF chair. Just my experience. The HF chair isn’t junk by any means but the Vyper is definitely better in my experience.
@ yes. Before I could afford it I would have to deal with constant fixing of my old one. Now that I can afford it, I absolutely love it. So much easier on my knees and lower back.
Either look at Griot's compact sit-on creeper or Racatac kneeling creeper. Neither really has an adjustable seat height but offer good rolling over surfaces and are not a scratch hazard.
Check out the Mychanic Detailing Rig. It is a 5 wheeled seat with a Wash Bucket attached which is perfect for a dedicated Tire/Wheel cleaning. Best of all if you check your local N A P A it could be had for $50.00. A absolute bargain.
I’ve had a Racatac since seeing Yvan using 5-6 years ago. In a few recent videos he’s been on another cool looking ergonomic bench. The viper chair looks really cool, but as a sitting and hanging out in the garage stool, not for detailing. New subscriber BTW, heard about you on the DIY Detail facebook group.
Wonder If the garage door was open if you would've rolled down the driveway in the Viper chair. Lol I feel some pain in my legs and wallet with this chair. Tbh the harbor freight would be an upgrade for me, I have a regular cushioned folding chair for when I do the wheels. But I also don't have much space for storage. Pretty good test, I agree, at that cost it should've already had the rubber protector installed. If I was to scratch my car after buying an item that was to help me wash and take care of it. Can't begin to say how upset I would be. Especially how I bump into things as it is when working on something. But I have to say it looks comfortable and I have noticed in newer videos.
It has its hood and bad it more of a luxury than an need. I would have hit the drain just outside the door and probably crashed. 🤣 I have to use it now have to use up the $400 🤣
Great video - so down to Earth. It made me think a bit... what about a saddle drum chair with back support and add casters to it? Or one of those comfy chairs used at spa saloons? Any of those may be better than the viper. I have the same red chair you do and I cannot place any bottle on the plate because somehow they always keep falling so the bottom round plate for me is useless and 3 legs with casters should be ok, or not?
Never say on a saddle drum chair to know How it would work. 3 legs I don’t think would be very stable when hitting any kind of resistance when rolling. The one thing the Vyper has going for is the build quality which would last a decade more than likely.
For 95% of us DIY car enthusiasts...such a chair is a waste given the volume of times it would get used. Its size and the issues a user can have put it in "the pass category" for me. Yes, it is a great chair....yet the funds can go towards far more useful products for our car details and other garage tools/needs.
Agreed on all you said which is why I put this off for years, but finally have everything I need in the garage so said let’s try it worst case we can make a video on it. Maybe I should make a video modifying the Harbor freight seat with me cushion casters, etc.
Yes I agree! for me I used a padded lid with a swivel for my bucket that has a dolly anyways and I roll around on that. Recently I dished out a pretty penny for the adams premium detailing bucket considering it my version of a nice creeper seat + brush caddy + wash bucket + brush washing station. It also has larger locking casters so it’s not as finicky as the red dolly wheels
I was going to buy this but settled for the 55 big red creeper seat it had the best reviews on Amazon and if worst comes to worst I’ll just get aftermarket casters
I have been contemplating buying one of these… I honestly have the icon chair from HB and don’t care for it much, but also own two of their lower model grants chair and love those and the storage on them..my thing with the round storage area under the chair is kind of pointless…. I like actual bottle holders and towel storage. I’ve noticed on the icon chair, you can’t really put spray bottles under there… they just fall off every time you move… thanks for the comparison… there is a lot of videos building these chairs but not really giving honest feedback on functionality.
Yeah the bottom really only holds tools. Bottles just flip over every time. I’m going to look around to see what would compete at a cheaper price point. Adjustable height is a must for me so that eliminates a lot of the good ones.
And again try the grants chair from HB! I have two of them.. use it every day, hard.. the ones wheels are starting to come apart but it’s the exact same thing Adams sells bit cheaper and I feel is better because of the rubber top.
And did you pre order your active 2.3?? I did!! I can’t wait for them to start shipping them! Their little April fools joke about the foam cannon was funny.. but I would honestly buy that thing if they made it for real.
I would sell my sole for that April fools foam cannon then drop it from my roof just to see how it handles a drop. 🤣 they are sending me one to review and I pre-ordered one.
How often are you gonna be sitting upright while working on your car. Probably never as we are always bent over doing something. So the back rest seems unnecessary. Plus at $400 they are insane.
Agreed this is for those that are in a chair all the time. I tend to not use it all the time for the car I also lower my workbench and use it when modifying or upgrading something for a video so the backrest is great for that. Just all depends on what it’s being used for.
I myself would have saved for the better top of the line one or try and make one myself. I would still upgraded to something more comfortable than the HF one though. HF does have an icon model to look at.
I don’t doubt that it’s a way better stool and will outlast me, but I have a $25 one that’s still going. I’m going to put some better casters on it soon, but the seat and tray are fine. If you’re using it for hours everyday, it may be worth it. I feel like the one that Yvan has been working on or the other kneeling stools are probably best for the long term though
Yeah the kneeling creeper style is interesting. I do think a professional on a stool for more than half the day a really good chair is needed. I mean a few dollars and you could rebuild and upgrade the $25 stool to be quite good.
@@CarsWithKeav yeah I definitely need new casters for it. The crappy ones it came with are all rusted and have fallen off several times, and I’ve almost fallen over because of it. For now every month or so I torque them down again as tight as I can, haven’t had one pop off since I started that. But some nice 3 inch or so casters I think would be great. The kneeling ones would be good for a longevity standpoint, like Yvan mentions you can be fully upright with good posture and down low instead of hunched over.
@@ethanblan435 Yvan is a wealth of knowledge when it comes efficiency and just good ideas to make thing better. I’ve had to torque mine down a few times.
So get the regular chair with 4 inch casters ,thicker foamed on the seat, guard on the backrest and skip the side holders . Would you get the big boy seat option? Thoughts on the Low Pro with the backrest and no side trays?
I think the low pro has no height adjustment which is why I ignored it. Big boy seat option would help guard against accidental scratching having that padding further out. Have not sat on one to know how comfortable it is and if the side cushions move around any.
I'm glad the Vyper chair exists. Those guys seem passionate about the products they create. Other chairs seem like an afterthought. If you can't justify the price, then you have options to purchase something that falls into a different category. I have a Vyper chair and wished they were available 20 years ago, before I wasted money on other price-point options.
I’m glad they exist as well and for professionals on a shop chair for long period of time everyday to me it’s a no brainer. I think the more expensive ones are a better value than the one I got really. They are extremely well built.
@@CarsWithKeav It is one of those items that you don't have to justify the price. Once you have one, you can't go back to not having one. The others, just seem like a waste of money then.
@@timkinley1779 Agreed it’s getting over the spend. Some will say never worth it, but I don’t spend much money on anything else I have a small wardrobe of clothes and two pairs of shoes that are not expensive. So my expendable income goes into garage stuff. Just wish I would have spend a few more dollars for the better Vyper chair.
Great review. I have the cheap stool myself and it has a few flaws like you say but I can't justify that kind of money for the benefits as I can see being the lazy person that I am is to pull myself around the garage and nailing my ankles like you have shown every time. . I see you have an aluminum step against your wall and you want to strike fear into your life try stepping on that with that type of flooring when it is wet or even dry, I have issues of butt clinching if I slightly lean to reach an area on the roof and still with one hand on the vehicle (pick up,Suv for van) I am looking for some kind of anti slip for the base of the legs.
I think the $30 stool and sometimes it’s $19 on sale and you add $50 you got a good chair. New casters and a new seat cushion I’ll have to see what I can do and slip hazards always have my anxiety high. The aluminum step I have is covered in sandpaper on all surfaces you touch with your feet.
Slimmed down for $400…🤔 You hit all the points. Working hard to protect delicate surfaces during a detail, this chair has the potential to do real damage in a true work setting . Once you take away all the hype I don't think the cost can be justified for the Non Celeb UA-camr.
I do think the more expensive option is better overall and what I should have tried out. Professionals on a seat all day would benefit the most from a high quality chair. They do give a lot of these out to celebs and others. Got to spend your marketing budget somewhere. 🤣 The constant anxiety of scratching after a few close calls has me on pins and needles when using it.
@@vincentolo9271 It’s crazy money, but sometimes you spend when you don’t need to. I don spend money much money on shoes, clothes, coffee, alcohol, etc. So my extra money goes to poor choices in garage accessories. 🤣
@@CarsWithKeav Dude, I hear you. I like well made things generally, so I have to be very selective with my spend. My additional issue with Viper and some of the other high end hobbie brands is that sure they are well made or even over made, but they are also only affordable for the 1% er’s. Made in the USA used to mean well made and affordable.
Put it up against the $60 Craftsman at Lowe's with upgraded casters. Compared to the HF, it has a square base that feels much more balanced, and the seat cushion is much thicker. I love supporting Made in America companies like Vyper, but that price point makes no sense for the product you get. My opinions: - The lack of an ergonomic height adjustment is a downgrade. I know their thing is "pneumatics fail", but I've never experienced this. They're also easy to replace - The large base you keep busting your achilles on is a downgrade - I have no use for a backrest, as I find myself pretty much always leaning forward while detailing - Grade 8 hardware? Really guys? If a stool undergoes 150k PSI, something's gone terribly wrong lol
All great points especially on the hardware. I mean at the point those bolts fail the chair has been crushed already. There are five and takes. Wish I would gotten the more expensive one as it seems to be more inline with what I was looking for just the cost was too much and I’m not reaching out to them an begging for a free one like many do. 🤣
I purchased a chair from Sears on sale years ago that looked like a tractor seat on a square chassis and a shelf underneath it. The seat was somewhat comfortable but all the shelves underneath the chairs are useless since you cannot see whats there while you're sitting on the stool. The stool has 4 casters since it has a square base and they don't travel over extension cords or anything else on the floor easily. Since I'm tall I like a stool that's over 16 inches tall where chair height toilets are too short and its hard to stand up after sitting so close to the ground for long periods at a time. So the adjustable lab stood, that you see in doctor's offices, are sold by Uline for under $150 and have a comfortable seat, a pneumatic height adjustment, and can add an optional backrest.
$400 for a shop chair...that's not pneumatic adjustable, and shipping is an extra charge? 🤔 Does it come with vasoline too?? You know...for the bearings. 🤔
🤣🤣🤣 When I got the UA-cam notification about this comment it just said “You don’t have to brag” then got cut off. I thought oh no somebody thinks I’m a snob or Matt from OG. 🤣
Vyper chair is trash. Literally. Mine started to fall apart after a few months of light indoor use, Vyper refused to help saying its wear and tear. Seat is made of plastic not made of leather, metal ring where your foot rests will rust, no lifetime warranty like they make you believe they offer, 💩 customer service. Don’t believe me? See their most recent Google reviews
Have not used mine long enough or abused much to know it’s durability yet. Of course they come up with the wear and tear excuse. Most all the parts that fail are also wear and tear parts so they can avoid warranty.
They clearly do not understand ergonomics ; also, those chairs are designed for Over-sized individuals. Just because there is some quality features or materials on this product, doesn't mean you get to abandon design and functionality. (manual height adjustment..... really?). And I'm not paying for "cool". Sorry, I'll pass.
Pretty much agree with everything there is no innovation for the price just beefier hardware and materials. The higher priced items they have are better, but that’s even more money.
Actually Uline sells a vinyl lab stool for under $150 that has 5 legs, and can add a back rest to it, and very competitive with the vyper stool for a fraction of the cost!
Damn thanks, 1/3 of the price of the vyper, if its uline its gonna be pretty good quality for industrial use plus you can upgrade those small black casters to any type of quality casters. All still less than half of the vyper.

Some will say never worth it, but I don’t spend much money on anything else I have a small wardrobe of clothes and two pairs of shoes that are not expensive. So my expendable income goes into garage stuff. Just wish I would have spend a few more dollars for the better Vyper chair.
@@CarsWithKeav Sounds like me when discussing my girlfriend's boob job. Somethings are just worth whatever the cost.
Love the build quality but almost guaranteed to scratch your car at some point. They need to modify the form factor to make it safer around cars.
The more expensive one looks to
be safer not having that hexagon shaped bottom of course that’s $600.
I will stick with my Griots garage creeper. At least i can put my beer in the bottle holder and have a little drawer for the phone
Sounds like a perfect scenario. Whatever makes life easier is what I try to go with. This chair is not helping my scratch anxiety or my ankles. 🤣
😮…$725 for the higher level chair specked out like yours. So $$$$$. Nutty expensive unless your Hendricks Motorsport….🏁
@@vincentolo9271 Agreed on that and if not 1% your putting that in a credit card.
Put it up against the $60 Craftsman at Lowe's with upgraded casters. Compared to the HF, it has a square base that feels much more balanced, and the seat cushion is much thicker.
I love supporting Made in America companies like Vyper, but that price point makes no sense for the product you get. My opinions:
- The lack of an ergonomic height adjustment is a downgrade. I know their thing is "pneumatics fail", but I've never experienced this. They're also easy to replace
- The large base you keep busting your achilles on is a downgrade
- I have no use for a backrest, as I find myself pretty much always leaning forward while detailing
- Grade 8 hardware? Really guys? If a stool undergoes 150k PSI, something's gone terribly wrong lol
All great points especially on the hardware. I mean at the point those bolts fail the chair has been crushed already. There are five and takes. Wish I would gotten the more expensive one as it seems to be more inline with what I was looking for just the cost was too much and I’m not reaching out to them an begging for a free one like many do. 🤣
Great comparison. The Vyper chair appears to be comfortable BUT it is not worth the ri$k in scratching a car. Thank you!
You for sure got to be careful that’s for sure.
I bought the Harbor freight on sale $19
Nice! That’s a good deal. A few more dollars to replace the casters and it be amazing.
Thanks so much for the insights into these stools. I’ll have to look into them as a cheaper alternative.
$400 for a shop chair...that's not pneumatic adjustable, and shipping is an extra charge? 🤔 Does it come with vasoline too?? You know...for the bearings. 🤔
They’ll add it onto the sale for $5 I think though. 🤣
@@CarsWithKeav 😅😂🤣😝
You don’t have to brag about sticking out an extra 2” lol. Nice review
🤣🤣🤣 When I got the UA-cam notification about this comment it just said “You don’t have to brag” then got cut off. I thought oh no somebody thinks I’m a snob or Matt from OG. 🤣
@@CarsWithKeav haha.
You are a good man
Thank You
The viper chair looks good but it’s grossly over priced, there is no way I would pay $400 for that chair. I could make my own for much less.
Agreed
This chair is MUCH better than both of those! VEVOR Rolling Garage Stool, 300LBS Capacity. Had it for 3 years!
Nice, I’ll have to check it out.
Link?
Heck NO it isn't worth 400 buck
Kind of agree with you.
It's so over engineered, yet lacks innovation.
Agreed, just nothing new only upgraded parts.
Actually Uline sells a vinyl lab stool for under $150 that has 5 legs, and can add a back rest to it, and very competitive with the vyper stool for a fraction of the cost!
That for the suggestion I’ll look into it.
Damn thanks, 1/3 of the price of the vyper, if its uline its gonna be pretty good quality for industrial use plus you can upgrade those small black casters to any type of quality casters. All still less than half of the vyper.
