I'm applying to a program that is research intensive in the sciences, but I don't have any laboratory work experience, except for those I got from my undergraduate study. I studied crop science and worked as a farm manager and extension worker with a nonprofit organization. However, I am looking to build a career in academia/research after my masters program....How do I relate my work experience to the my intended program? 2. Secondly, what's the best approach to communicate my career goals to the admissions team?
Sorry for the delayed response! 1. Feel free to use your experience that you already have! And then, make sure you have a clear route as to why your experiences in the past have shaped your desire to build a career in academia/research after my masters program. You don't need direct experience, just a good enough reason as to how your past has shaped your vision for the future! 2. The best way is to have a solid plan of action (even if you're lying for now!) Get clear on I have done XXX that has shaped my desire for XXX. This program will prepare me for XXX by teaching me XXX. Once I get these skills I plan to XXX. Hope that helps!
Yes it is! For sure. I'd encourage GenAI tools for grammar and polishing up the document! But don't let it speak for you... your voice is the best thing you can offer :)
