Absolutley love the retro stuff
Thank you. I've been having a ton of fun with it. You need to come take a tour of the shop.
I definitely need to get one of those. I've got some really old computers that are taking up dust and I'd love to use them without floppies or hard drives.
They really are a game changer. They make working with retro stuff so much more enjoyable
Nice interface options you have available for testing! I need a chip tester and programmer like that, and an IDE controller. All of my magnetic media keeps failing so I want to get SD cards working in old systems.
Thank you! And yeah, I can't recommend this programmer enough. Even having a fancy chip tester (that cost 4x more) I reach for this thing 9 out of 10 times. And yeah. I've given up on the magnetic media any time I can. I try to preserve it, but it's a losing battle.
Wow, you reminded me of the MFM RLL era, omg thank you, a XT would fly with a CF drive, omg checkit!!!!
I have fond memories of the sounds of MFM/RLL drives, but they're still an absolute pain in the butt till this day. I have about 5 I'm doing some data recovery on. Fun stuff.
The irony is that when XT-IDE was first being developed back more than ten years ago on the Vintage Computer Forums, one of the primary design requirements was thru-hole components. I think I have a couple of the OG rev1 cards kicking around that I never built from that time.
Yeah. I get the people mass producing them not wanting to do through hole but it's super handy for me to have the option.
@@AnotherMaker It wasn't a criticism, Merely an observation! 😀
Where can I get a metal bracket for my Rev4?
The BOM lists a part number. I feel like it's only available from mouser, but possibly digikey also.
@@AnotherMaker ah I bought a kit from eBay which didn't have a bill of materials so I will look for this
part # 534-9202 for the bracket
part # 534-9301 for the screws
note this is for the blank bracket, and is not compatible with the CF reader.
@@Megatog615 Ahh you are correct. I forgot that that was a different version. I 3d printed mine from a file over at thingiverse.
