i can confirm that this zoom lens is very sharp. I just made some testshots on my eos r. Will have to use it with a film camera soon. Thankx for the video !
Great stuff! The 30mp sensor of the R is great for really looking into fine detail and sharpness. Thank you for watching the video.
I just had mine out 2 days ago. I do like this lens. Very useful zoom range and it's quite forgiving.
The range is a big plus for me.
i got 1pc of that 35 to 105mm in the 80s , & got 1 more last year on Auction.
They seem to stand the test of time!
Keep going man you are awesome!!!!!
Thank you for the encouragement! It is always needed :)
Wow, this particular lens sprung to mind the other day, and then boom - here you are making a video about it. Fantastic! Great stuff mate. It's inspiring seeing you keep at it with regular uploads and solid content. It's been a while for me personally, but I have big plans for my YT channel so will try to catch up, haha. Anyhoo, cheers and well done! :)
Thanks so much. Yes, I can't wait to see some of your stuff regularly in 2024. Your production value and quality is way up there. But man... frequency is tough to maintain! I try and do 1 every fortnight.... it is a slog between normal work shoots!
@@danienelphoto Oh hey thanks man, that really means a lot! And yes, I will. Working on bulk editing currently, to be able to release regularly. It'll be a few weeks still, but soon. And I totally get what you mean. It's really difficult to find the time. But you're doing great man, which is massively inspirational, so thank you for putting in the work - it makes me want to do the same! :)
Hey, man, just a pleasure. Pretty sure I am going to need your inspration soon. I have about 3 videos left to edit, then I have to shoot and script a bunch to have material to edit two-weekly.
I'm also using this lens on the EOS R50, I love the old FD lenses. Great video, thanks bro :)
Thank you, Zax! I love them too. I spent some time with my family today in a park, and also had another FD on my R6. (85mm 1.8). But, yes, this lens I discuss here is great. Thank you for checking out my video.
Just bought a pristine example of this lens for my A-1. Looking forward to the results. Thanks for the video.
You will enjoy the lens. Mine is now pretty much permanently on my AE-1.
I’ve just started on my FD journey, shooting with a LUMIX S5 and I’m loving the FD lenses so far.
I might just be looking out for the 35-105 to add to the collection 😂
It is a great addition as an all-rounder for when you are just not in the mood to carry 4 or 5 lenses with you.
I just picked one of these up at an antique mall for $25. Very smooth.
It’s on my film camera, so I will need to finish the roll before I know how it shoots.
That is a good price. I used mine again yesterday to test a Canon AL-1
@@danienelphoto - Brilliant! Will you be posting the results here or another platform by any chance?
Oh, very much! I just finished the roll - Kentmere Pan 400 - and I used that lens to shoot some still life shots in studio - also using its macro feature...
Hello i 've one and it's my choice when i travel with my CANON A1. very nice video , thanks for your work! Chris from France ^^
Mercí, Chris! Yes, I keep it on my AE-1 now. Shot much of my upcoming Kentmere Pan 400 video with it. Thank you for checking in.
I have one of these with an April 1981 production code. I suspect it might be a production sample or something - it came in its original wrapped box and didn't seemed to be used in any way - but the paint was worn in some strange places and there're a few strange things on the mount that stood out. Maybe it was something handed to magazine reviewers back in the day.
It's also the second one I've bought.
The first one was utterly written off. The glass was fine - but every single bearing and bushing in it had turned to mush so it couldn't hold focus or zoom. I've had the same thing with a couple of Canon Zooms from the era too. They're too easily trashed.
Weight is fine on a heavier body like an F-1 or T90 - it counterbalances well.
Interesting! Sounds like a technician Frankensteined it :) I haven't worked FD lenses too hard, so don't know how they hold up. I try and buy ones that aren't too badly used.
If it wasnt for these old canon lenses I'd be shooting with my Sony kit lens and my iphone all the time lol. These have been a game changer for me and I shoot most of my content with vintage canon lenses.
Indeed, it has brought a new dimension to shooting.
Just picked up the lens at a trift shop, was gonna use it on my Canon dslr, what lens adaptor did you use? Secondly, do yo need an adaptor with glass optics? Great video, very inspiring.
Hi - thanks so much for watching! K&F Concepts makes nice adpaters in my experience - so the EF-FD is what you would need. Unfortunately if you wish to be able to focus to infinity, one with a glass element is necessary, as far as I can tell. There are without glass elements, so maybe it has been redesigned! I think however, you will need the glass optic one, if my current understanding is correct. I ised one with my 5D4 DSLR and to be dead honest, it was not nearly as bad as people said. In fact, bar some very small bit of edge softness, the adapter was fine. The name of the brand of that one escapes mez though!
n Goeie lens en n kombinasie van die Kaap maak dit alles. Ek het die lens n ruk terug gekry maar nog nie kans gehad om dit te gebruik nie. Dankie vir die post.
Dankie dat jy ingeloer het! Dis regtig n lekker lens. Dit sit op my Canon AE-1 permanent.
I got the canon ae1 with this lens for my birthday and i was wondering if it would be worth it to buy the fd 50mm lens in addition, do you think the 50mm is better or is the one I already have enough? Because 50mm is within the zoom range so I don‘t really know if I actually need it
Unless you want the wider aperture, to maybe shoot in lower light, or you want the more blurry background at F1.8 of the 50mm, this lens will do fine. Some people just like the feel of the prime lenses a bit more, but from a usability standpoint, the zoom is great for covering a lot of subjects.
my 35-105 f3.5 has about 3mm free travel in the zoom ring...they told me it's normal. Is that so?
Mine doesn't, so can't say I know much about that either...
Pentax has a practically identical lens in their Pentax-A line-up…not a Pentax-A fan but oh well…
I suppose at the lower end, like most things, there are lots of duplication of products between brands to stay competitive.
I have this lens... It is not parfocal at all.... The canon groups on FB will also state the very same that its not parfocal.. Why its even mentioned is absurd and misleading
Not the intention to mislead..., especially since I am not selling or promoting it.
There are many online forums where this is suggested and thus I examined it, and you can see as well what my conclusion was. However, to correct your mistaken assumption, this is in fact a discussion that was had on FB groups where I participated in, and true to form to discussions like these, some claimed it was enthusiastically, and some held your view, enthusiastically.
A quick intermet search would show this is in fact a topic of discussion, with this particular article claiming it is parfocal to 85mm.

There are scores more, but I think you should catch my drift.
Absurd is a strong sentiment, and given the amount of discussion on it, probably ill-informed. You seem to also just be giving your opinion (an inalienable right, so please do!), but if indeed mine struck you as such, my apologies for causing you displeasure.
I (sincerely) hope you were able to watch a video with more edifying results afters :). Thanks for checking out my review anyways and bothering to engage.
I have this lens and it’s parfocal on my Blackmagic 6k with Fd to L adapter so I don’t know.
Lekker
Baie lekker ;)
