I'd ordered this album from Steve's website, and it arrived today I absolutely love the first side !! This man is over 70 years old and his guitar playing is amazing He hasn't slowed down at all 👍 The production is outstanding (I listened on headphones) I came across your channel by accident, but subscribed as its really refreshing to see a younger generation enjoy prog music (i'm in my 60's) Love the video's & looking forward to your next one
When I first saw Genesis on the Selling England tour I would never have imagined Steve still being around decades later, but it looks like I'll be buying this one. By the way, your room is a lot tidier than mine was at Uni in the 70s! :)
My copy arrived yesterday and I’m really enjoying it. Very cinematic with lots going on and some terrific Hackett 🎸 solos … gonna be a big long term favourite 👍👍👍
I scored it high. Glad you liked it too. A-ha had a song that had rain throughout it I think, their 2nd album, quite quirky though but memorable after all these years.
OMG! You are the first person, besides myself 😉 I've heard give Hackett credit for "tapping" before EVH ("Dancing with the Moonlit Knight" for example).
Just received the vinyl today. I love the album. Great concept, great singing, great guitar chops. His guitar tone is actually a touch thin, but may be due to him using super thin strings.
If you like going to sleep with the sound if rain, try Solitudes: Thunderstorm in the Wilderness by Dan Gibson. No music just a storm followed by rain. Very relaxing.
Enjoyed the album. For me, up there with guitarists such as Steve Rothery. ( marillion rabbithole). Gaza live is amazing. Nick Barret of Pendragon is great also. Heavier music, I always head towards Opeth or Caligulas horse.
Thanks for the review! AllMusic haven't gotten to it yet. I'm a fan of Steve's music from the '70's forward, but kind of left the fold around 2015 I think. The really big sound he & Roger have done on the last few CDs is kind of off putting to me-- they rarely leave space for individual instruments to be heard or quiet passages. Of his older albums, I'd say *Voyage of the Acolyte,* *Please Don't Touch,* *Spectral Mornings,* *Guitar Noir,* and *To Watch the Storms* are standouts. Those have different producers & band members & each has a distinct personality.
I think this album is more of the same, for my taste is too heavy without magic like the first one. Steve announced this was going to be The Álbum, I think is not, it is a good album but nothing more. It is very dark and heavy, where is the bucolic, the english melancholy, no magic.
Mmmmm. I haven't bought (or heard ) a Hackett album since Out Of The Tunnel's Mouth, tracks I've heard here and there seem OK, but nothing more. I was think of getting this as it's getting a lot of publicity and good reviews. A friend is going to get it and send me a copy. If it's really good, I'll buy it!
I always thought Genesis & Peter Gabriel were fine without each other but Genesis were never the same without Steve Hackett.
hackett was essential to the early genesis sound!
Exactly! Imagine losing Peter Gabriel and then releasing something as magnificent as Trick of the Tail.

I've been watching ages. Thank you for continuing to make your videos!
oh oh I love these, please make "THE PROG NERD REVIEWS:" an ongoing series! Especially new releases I'm so out of touch 😛 New light looks great!
If you like Steve, definitely check out his first three solo albums, starting with Acolyte. I've listened to the new one and it is very good.
Don't forget defector
I also dig your new light! I’ll have to check out this album.

Excellent review!!!
After all these years, 'Voyage Of The Acolyte' still gives me more pleasure than any of Hackett's other solo albums
Steve is certainly enjoying a late career purple patch. Good on him
i like steve hackett.
I like vegetable soup.
Once the dust settles this may be one of Steve’s best albums.
Loved this album. Very dark & majestic!!! For a 75 year old man, this is fabulous

Prog sleeper band 😊
Very enjoyable album, but I was playing it in the background. Need to listen to it again with headphones!
i listened to it on my bluetooth speaker, i should probably give it a re-listen too!
@@the_prog_nerd i listened to it on the toilet and my shit sounded better.
Really enjoyed this album (and the review)!

It's everything you could expect from him.
Not original, but so well done it doesn't matter. He's been on a qualitative high for a couple years.
Niamh the best tune ever with rain sound is Riders On The Storm by The Doors.
Please Don't Touch is one of my Desert Island Discs. There aren't any Genesis albums on that list...

Sorry but don't like this. Steve has lost inspiration for years. Sorry about that. Regret the early years. Boring.
what would you do if you didn't have hands.
idk
