    Anyone who wants to be an Arab can be-our identity is so fluid and not tied to one ethnicity. Arabic and Hebrew are so closely connected; if you give it a shot, I bet you could pick up Arabic really easy. Much love and respect for embracing this side of yourself!

    Cultural appropriation is a very western, liberal concept that comes out of sense of victimhood and injustice. Arab/Muslim world is massive, and despite our political and material shortcomings, we have massively powerful cultures, and we are rooted in our lands and traditions, if people from outside adopt one of our identities and cultures, we don't get insecure or offended about it, we are happy to share whatever we have on this planet with our friends.
    If you feel like Palestinians, wear your Palestinian identity with pride.

    Loved these guests too! I've felt lonely for the past year because noone around me seems to care as much as I do. I so wish I could attend protests but I can't because of my chronic illness. I can't even imagine how alienating it must feel to be an anti-zionist Israhelli at the moment.

    I got so much out of this episode. As Matt said, people around the world feel the loneliness and craziness that Elik describes in his protest song (on a much less intense level). Seeing the atrocities being accepted for 14 months is crazy making, daily. I am from Brazil and some of the most beautiful music here was created during the dictatorship in the 60's. Protest music had to be subtle and camouflaged "between the lines" to get past the military censors. Many musicians and writers like Caetano Veloso, Chico Buarque, and Paulo Coelho had to go into exile in Europe in order to avoid prison or worse. Elik's music must reach more people but Elik and Alon please be careful. Another thing I loved was Daniel's quote from The Myth of Normal about how the healthiest defy "normality". I need to get that book. You guys ROCK this was such a touching and funny and entertaining and rich episode.

    We need to hear more Israelis speak out about their "hasbara training" and indoctrination. Also hearing about what's going on in Israel education system in regards to their history would be interesting. I remember i was speechless when i watched someone asking questions to israeli kids about what they want to be and all of them talk about killing Arabs. I think it is important to know what kind of education that create that hatred.

    I fucking love you guys, and that goes equally for Elik and Alon as well. You are among the best that humanity has to offer and it's tragic to see you ao isolated and forced to be so courageous in order to stand by your principles when everyone around you should be doing the same thing and sharing that burden with you. I'm hopeful that someday soon there will be many more standing beside you and demanding justice, even among the perpetrators on the ground. In the age of social media and global communications, there has to be many of them who will eventually become unable to cope with the memories and guilt of the atrocities they've participated in and start rejecting their indoctrination as a result, we've already seen many former soldiers and hasbarists become militantly anti-zionist once their rationalizations became untenable and their consciences finally awakened.

    I just have to say what a fantastic song! Have to answer your qusestion, Matt, as I’m from Norway, famously supportive of Palestinian rights, so mutch so I’m really surprised when I encounter zionists. It resonated totally with me, as I’ve always wondered how atrocities as slavery, the Holocaust and others atrocities could possibly happen. Now I unfortunatly know, as there’s no proper action as we’re either placated or beaten down, all lonley and frantic or in denial as we can’t seem to organize behind som sort of economical pressure big enough. My dream is a word wide general streik to show off som working class power…

    • @TrineHopland
      @TrineHopland 9 годин тому +1

      @ in Norway I think it is mainly two reasons why the main stream are firmly pro Palestine rights; firstly as a recently colonized people ourselves, we probably quite easily recognise oppression. As the Sami part of our people was treated appalingly, they very mutch more so. Secoundly our right wing, buissinessman type prime minister Willoch actually went (as a staunch zionist, I might add) to Palestine in the late eighties or early nineties and was shocked and appalled. He workers for Palestine rights ever since and had a broad public to appeal to.
      Obviously we learn about the presecution of the European jews, the «jew paragraph» in our own original constitution and the holocaust, of course. As we were occupied ourselves, and as a consequence has almos no jewish people left (about 1%). They were ganged up and shipped out in 1942. We learn about the white busses, though I think they should be clearer about the fact that those were sendt to retrieve the political prisoners. Think just two jewish Norwegians was retrieved that way.
      Unfortunatly we learn nothing about jews outside Europe. We learn very little about Aisia and Africa unrelated to European actions. I’d say that’s our greatest weakness adding to that of the very cavalier treatment of the history of Sami presecution, whitch is our own doing after all.
      I’m anti zionist as I’m antiracist; zionism always seemed to me to be a very racist idea, both to the people who lives there and to the European jews not welcome in Europe. To me the situation in Palestine is a live example of every rightwing biggots crazy rambling about refugees getting out of hand and taking over, it’s quite remarkeble.

      This channel is propaganda I watched bc of Matt wife franchesa. But they’re liberals lol they voted for Kamala. They take your money like poor gaza Wah Wah but literally endorse the Gside
      They also don’t tell you anything about the Ukraine proxy war bc again they just want your money

    OMG, been watching these guys since Daniel did their first interview! I’m so happy you’re finally having them on, they are great guys. Erik is hugely talented at the viola(?? or violin?? I’m not really musically gifted). Can’t wait!
