This song makes me think of my mom and dad who gave so much to me and my siblings and I were all adopted from four separate reasons and they gave us roots and wings and home and love.
The original live version from 1978 (ua-cam.com/video/8XaD-7DdeMw/v-deo.html) has just slightly more punch, especially in second verse and bridge, where TOAST is loosing a bit of the songs flow due to tempo fluctuations... I also wish the electric guitar would have brought in some of the licks and figures which clearly can be heard in the linked live version above... There's room for improvement. But this is cherry picking on a all in all well done performance... By the way: try to hear the electric kit in drum fills of the Bread performance... It really sounds like early 70ies Science Fiction FX... 🙂

That was with no doubt the absolute best Bread cover I've ever heard. You guys were almost spot on with the exception of the drums being just a little on the loud side. The guy singing is almost a dead ringer for David Gates. Incredible!!

Delicate, powerful, just oozing "finesse". Very very nice, guys. I was a little disappointed at the crowd. Sure, they clapped... "lightly". But this really was an excellent performance - so much better than your average bar band. They deserved a lot more.

I am an amateur musician and I do play and sing this song at home, not an easy song vocally. This is a good Live version and it should have at least 500K likes.
Interesting story... Jimmy Griffin and others of Bread actually went by the name of "Toast" for a while after the breakup of Bread. Also the full name was "A Toast to Bread" but David Gates family actually contacted us and asked us for legal reasons to not use the "bread" name in our actualy band name. So we shortened it up and they have been very supportive of what we're doing.
