I thought I would film the making of this guitar from start to finish, never realizing that I would have over a hundred short videos, and it would take 4 days to edit it all.
The finished video is 51 minutes long and doesn’t include making the neck; the link to that video is here: • Quality 3 String Cigar...
If 51 minutes is too long for you, you can skip to 43:45 to hear the finished guitar.

Not sure whats happened to the last 10 minutes, Will render again and re-upload.
Here is an alternative ending: ua-cam.com/video/tIXuSluDQkM/v-deo.html
You can definitely hear the time and patience, very impressive and just beautiful.
I really like the way that you finished your neck! And your pickup that you used instead of one of those cheap pickups. I have an antique Rosewood box that I would love to make a 3 string guitar out of.
Just go for it Harry, once you make one you'll to make another.
Love this !! Great ideas !!!
Thanks for the comment Del, means a lot to me having someone like yourself take the trouble to visit my channel.
Good job and thank you for the video 😊
Glad you liked it. 👍
Hi . I built one a month ago , tho not having even seen your video . I placed my pickup an inch away from the bridge , because of learning the hard way from previous builds where I had problems with palm muting , and the pickup being directly below the spot where the plectrum contacts the strings ..it irritated me so much , that I moved the pickup away from that contact zone . Since then, I either mount the pickup at bridge or neck position. The body is from solid creosoted railway sleeper ( modge podged it to mask the terrible smell of the creosote ..haha .) But I'm very happy the way it finished off . A bit heavy in weight , thats why the string muting is needed ..tho kill off overtones from too much sustain .
very kewl!
Thanks for a Great video..
Thanks Jimmie.
Just found your site your work is outstanding thank you for sharing 😅
You are more than welcome.
A nice guitar as they say there are no rules as to how you should build one, you should just have fun making and playing them well done I like what you have done.
Thanks for the positive comment. I'm in the process of building 3 more (route 66) metal plate topped guitars, because this one turned out a little heavy, the boxes are quite a bit thinner, and will have a wooden top as well, with the metal plate mounted on top.
Can you please do a video showing how to mark the fret distance on the neck. Thank you
Great videos BTW 👍
Working on it
You do really nice work and I'm enjoying watching your videos but I'm not sure why you want 10 millimeter on the side of your box I'd say five or six would be enough to give it resonance without being too stiff and boxy
Hi Cory, well noted, this was my second attempt on a guitar with a tin plate and just like the first one, I did over engineer it, think I was being over cautious due to it's length.
But you are right 10 mm was far too thick, and all my subsequent builds with tin plates are made from 5 mm (5) ply.
I do have another Union Jack plate lying around somewhere, it would be interesting to make another one using the 5 mm ply and comparing the results.
Great video, thanks for going to all that trouble of recording, editing and posting. Can you please tell us the outside dimensions of this box?
The (metric) outside dimensions for the box are 31.5 cm x 16.3 cm. the plate size is 30.8 cm x 15.5 cm - Imperial sizes would be 12" 13/32 x 6" 27/64 for the box, and 12" 1/8 x 6" 7/64 for the plate.
Hi CB ! I'm from São Paulo Brasil. Could you build one guitar like that , for me , please ?!
Hi Paulo, I only have two (Union Jack) plates left. so can certainly build you a guitar. Click the (@CBGuitars) link above, then on the right open the *about* link and my email address is at the bottom of the page. Look forward to hearing from you.
What are the outside dimensions of the box please?
Dang it I glued the neck to my butt
All that and we don't get to see the finished article.....
You can hear it here: ua-cam.com/video/tIXuSluDQkM/v-deo.html fast forward to 2.39 if you're not interested in the paint job.
I hate to be that guy, but that Union Jack is incorrect. The telltail sign are the small red stripes; they're supposed to be off-centered.
I believe the flag is correct *but* it looks wrong, as I made it facing upside down. The sign of distress, *for a distressed looking guitar.*
A clever answer, but in all honestly I cocked up. I'll get it right with the next two.
Unbrauchbar.. missing neck mesures
Sorry bud, you have to pay more attention to camera angles, way too much time spent looking at your back, elbow or armpit and can't see what you are doing !! Some good content and information in there though.
I couldn't agree more! In my defence that was one of my first videos from 4 years ago, and I hope I've come a long way since those early days.
This would have been a great video if you could get rid of the annoying music that makes your voice not heard.
I'm afraid I have to agree with you, the background music should be lower or not there at all. I my defence it was one of my first videos 4 years ago, I hope I've come a long way since those those early days. Think it's time to make anyone one.
Cannot hear your voice. Too loud music in comparison to inaudible voice
I'm sorry, I know there were some problems, and you're not the first to point this out. But in my defence this was one of my first videos from 4 years ago, hopefully things have got a lot better since those early days.
@@CBGuitars Ah sorry I did not check the publication date ;-)
fun to see tho'
