2005 Ford F150 - how I checked the door switch(es)

  • Your dome light on FORD F150 should stay on for like 25 seconds and then should turn off. But when your dome light stays still on the most common issue is a door switch not working properly. The switch is constantly fed by a chassis ground and it sends it back to the module when the door is open. There's an easy check if the switch operates properly without even disassembling the door panel. All you need is a 12V probe which is connected to the positive terminal of your battery.
Another issue you might experience is your instrument cluster (there might be a bad solder point on a board somewhere), your RKE (remote keyless entry) system, broken wire which can cause a lost communication between the switch and the module.
For an easy operation of your door and the switch spray it over with some penetrating oil, ideally with some water dispenser or something similar.
My truck is the 2005 Ford F150 5.4 V8 Lariat 4x4 Extra cab 11th gen but it will be similar for most of Ford pickup trucks, it might slightly differ in colors of the wires.

It's hard to tell what's causing your problem, it might be short circuit, it might be a relay.... is this for 1 window or all of them? The best way to solve it is to go by an electric scheme. For example the information cluster is responsible for many weird things happening when it comes to electrical signals in the truck and sometimes it's just a loosen solder connection on it.
