I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one who does things the hard way! I too use Meguiar's Mirror Glaze and Ultimate Mirror polish to make all my cars and musical instruments look like brand new.
Great video thanks mate, i`ll just add though it is always important to 'season' your polishing pad which just means apply some product evenly over the polishing pad then apply the amount of product for the job or the section being worked on, this is a pro tip from the car guys, keeps the temp of the pad down and in turn the surface also.
Great job and video Bro! Nothing touches Meguiars ScratchX for this or ANY paint job you do! There’s nothing I haven’t tried and no, I don’t get paid by them..
This will help when I paint up the Globe Liner body, thank you But I love that you left 'wait why is nothing coming out? ... Oh right the paper seal' in
Hi there what paint do you use I use acrylic paint and enamel when I try to polish my car models the acrylic paint comes off when I wet sand it. And what paint do u recommend
Thank you!! Yeah it is scary at first I know I was but once you get used to it it's like you want to do it all the time because it gives such a nice shine at the end!!
just make sure you have enough coates laid down. Use a very light touch the model will tell you how hard to push but be gentle like you're kissing your sister. I remember being very heavy handed and burning through but then I saw just how effective finesse can be
I just bought a similar rotary tool (although the one I went for has 5 speeds, rather than 3). I also bought similar buffing wheels, so hopefully it'll be ideal for polishing clear coats! Hopefully it'll arrive in the post in a few days!
It came today! I've only tested it so far on some plastic teaspoons I had painted and clearcoated a few months ago for earlier painting tests, but I'm pretty happy with it so far. Mine is an SPTA branded one, 5 speeds and goes down to 3000 rpm :-) I also bought the same scratch-x and and polishing compound as you use @N.Y.S Modeling!
I bought painted body it was having very deep spots i sanded it but i think i sended thru the clear coat in some spots. Should i paint all body what will happen now
Dumb question im sure but can you spray clear coat on a new diecast car? Like say I buy it, unbox it and immediately want it to have a little extra clearcoat. Can I just spray it on the car and let it dry then polish that later on? Im always worried being new to this that ill take too much clear coat off and it just makes me nervous polishing.
The thing about putting more clear on it is clear coat is thick. And the thicker it gets harder, it's going to put on your additional parts such as headlights or your penalines will get filled up.
Excellent work, it has a realistic shine. Have you ever used nail polish for a custom color paint and if so, does it hold up to your polishing regimen?
I know it’s hard to resist but let it dry 24hrs… I go as far as 48 hrs just to be safe. I ruin models back in the day handling them to early. And that was just for assembly, imagine wet sanding
@hhaste if I do, I'll surely knock them off while polishing. I've discovered using diluted alcohol to clean glue points since you responded. So I polish the car minus wings, fins, mirrors, protrusions of any kind and the clean and attach after. So far nothing has fallen off any cars
Question. I’m new to this, and only have access to 1000 and 2000 grit. Can I get away with just those? Then follow up with a polish? Thank you for the video and keep posting! Also, do you wet sand the entire body?
Stick to only wet sanding the larger areas. You want to stay a way from edges, small details and body lines because the sandpaper will quickly sand through the clear coat in those areas. I think you can get away with using only 1000 and 2000, but you’ll have significant polish work to do afterwards to get rid of the haze. Good luck!!

Awesome mirror like finish. Thank you for doing this video it is very easy to follow and informative.
You can put a little dawn in your water and it will sand smoother with a little less scratching. Great job!!
Great update thank you I appreciate it. That is deep shine I have been looking for years. Have a great week
Never seen such a great finish bought some mcguires aswell
You do nice work . I really didn't know you could go through the polishing process as if it were a real car. Great work .
Great video Dylan, thanks for sharing . Rick 🤓✌️
Thanks Rick!! Yeah know problem!! Just the way I do it it works really good for me!! And it is totally worth it at the end!!
Great job and video Bro!

New subscriber love your informative videos
Brilliance mate👍
Glad to see you are using 2k clear! Great job. Brad
Beautiful job!
Very well done, I need to find some of those polish wheels and try to do less finger rubbing all my paint jobs.. 😎👍
Good tutorial Dylan. That is a real pretty shine.
Thanks Rick I appreciate it!! It is totally worth it at the end!!
This will help when I paint up the Globe Liner body, thank you
But I love that you left 'wait why is nothing coming out? ... Oh right the paper seal' in
Very good video! Thank you.
Excellent video Dylan. Great step-by-step. Dave
Thanks Dave I appreciate it!! It is worth it at the end!!
Thanks for this!

i love working with 2k paints but they can be so tricky to apply thin and even enough on a small scale. great job on this not burning through any edge
Very nice work sir! I've always been too afraid to even attempt polishing
Thank you!! Yeah it is scary at first I know I was but once you get used to it it's like you want to do it all the time because it gives such a nice shine at the end!!

Great finish! But will you use any kind of wax for protection or further improving the shiny surface after the meguiars ultimate polish?
Nice video Dylan!!
Thanks Tim!
Really thinkin about gettin back into this 30 years later. Have you tried wrapping some of these?
Hi!, it's a good tutorial for polishing!, But which was your mistakes as a noobie when you do this by the first time?
Beautiful job mate, I can never get my 2k to look like that . What size needle do you use on your airbrush? 👍🇬🇧👌
Nice tutorial Dylan!!!
Thanks Mike I appreciate it!!
That looks a handy rotary tool! My cheap 125W dremel clone, is way to fast at it's slowest speed of 10,000rpm!
I just bought a similar rotary tool (although the one I went for has 5 speeds, rather than 3). I also bought similar buffing wheels, so hopefully it'll be ideal for polishing clear coats! Hopefully it'll arrive in the post in a few days!

Very informative. Thanks.
I bought painted body it was having very deep spots i sanded it but i think i sended thru the clear coat in some spots. Should i paint all body what will happen now
Started with sanding 2000, but the paint come off the model already.
I painted 3 layers of paint and 3 layers of gloss vennish.

How much pressure do you apply when using polishing compound?
Just medium pressure.
Excellent work, it has a realistic shine. Have you ever used nail polish for a custom color paint and if so, does it hold up to your polishing regimen?
hello, can we sand black gloss paint without the clear coat?
You can but you won't get a good result it will be more like a matte black at that point
How much pressure to we apply in sanding
👌👌👌👌🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 very helpful my friend
Did you sand the sides too?
Dylan, do you know what speed you are polishing with the rotary tool? I didn't see a direct link above to the exact one you use.
I've read elsewhere about 1500 RPM. Worked well on a sample I tried the other day.
How long after clear coating, (3 coats), within 10 min of each other, before I can start the wet sanding step? Ty!
I know it’s hard to resist but let it dry 24hrs… I go as far as 48 hrs just to be safe. I ruin models back in the day handling them to early. And that was just for assembly, imagine wet sanding
Hi is that before or after the clear coating.
After
once polish is applied how does one go about glueing things like mirrors. door handles, chrome, wiperblades etc. ?
Install those first
@hhaste
if I do, I'll surely knock them off while polishing. I've discovered using diluted alcohol to clean glue points since you responded. So I polish the car minus wings, fins, mirrors, protrusions of any kind and the clean and attach after.

I gotta bow out, just don't have $60.00 for polish
great we're going for the best shine and he comes up with all unsharp pictures waste of time
Beautiful work Dylan!!!
Thank you so much!! It is a lot of work. But it is totally worth it at the end!!
