Fish and Shrimp Pie! The best meal you will eat all week!

- When you’re after comfort food, it’s hard to pass on a good fish pie. It’s also perfect for dinner parties, simply place the elegant dish in the centre of the table and let the guests help themselves. Pair that with a beautiful white wine, and you’re golden.
You can use any fish you like, I think a combination of white fish and salmon works best. Make sure you buy the freshest fish you can. Don’t use frozen, it will fall apart. Stay away from dry fish, like tuna or swordfish. In this recipe I also added shrimp for an extra layer of flavour.
You can add more to this recipe if you like, such as mushrooms, braised leek, dill, cheese on the topping, etc. I like to keep things simple, there’s more than enough flavours to satisfy your tastebuds without overpowering the delicate fish flavours.
If you have leftovers, simply leave in the fridge so it sets, then cut into portion squares, wrap them up in cling film and freeze. So easy! To use, simply remove from freezer and leave in fridge overnight. Reheat in the oven for that crispy topping. A microwave certainly works if you’re in a hurry, but I don’t recommend it.
Serve with a beautiful crisp salad and pair with a crisp dry white wine. Enjoy fish pie today (With shrimp!)

I made it other day. It is a good recipe.
Go easy on the 3/4 cup cream after the bechamel cools...just add enough to loosen up.
If you put too much in, the bechamel will get too watery.
Make sure your fish is dry...I dry mine with paper towel. .the water from fish can make it watery too.

Joel my good Aussie friend, outstanding recipe, never quite seen this before like you made this dish, looks delicious, Cheers Mate !, btw, 1 thing that I do is peel the potatoes, fine chop, & add them to the rice potatoes, being Irish I know most of the vitamins/minerals are in the peel/skin & with food prices these days we need all we can extract from all foods as we waste nothing
The skin helps keep a little water out and the ricer collects the skin on the bottom. One less step for me! 😂

I make this fairly regularly during the winter months for my better half as she's a non-meat eater. Can't beat it for flavour and warmth when it's cold outside. I like to mix dill or chervil through the sauce and use dijon mustard or horseradish in the mash, then grate some gruyere on top. Haddock and salmon work best. Herself was looking over my shoulder at your video and started oohing and aaahing, so I suppose it's on tomorrow's dinner menu. Thanks for sharing and congrats on another top class production.

I've always wondered, does a fisherman have a pie more suitable for him than the usual fish pie?!! ..I think that's it par excellence with this golden potato skin that looks like a charming big fish, I'm sure the smell and taste are absolutely AMAZING like it looks.

You may want to cook the spinach before adding. . otherwise it may water down the bechamel.
Any diffeernc ebetween whole milk and full cream milk and if so can i substitute whole milk for the full cream?
I made this on Saturday 4/23/2022 and it turned out pretty good, I did underseason it a bit in my opinion, also I didn't realize how much stirring I will be doing. My forearms by the end was killing me! I almost messed up by having too much flour in the mix so to liquefy it I added more cream. Because of how much I was stirring the mix the salmon and tilapia broke was more shredded but it still turned out great.
Next time I want to use salmon, haddock, and Tilapia. Throw in some basil, maynw something to kick up the heat or even a little gouda for that smokey taste. I personally didn't like the shrimp. It cane out really hard in a soft pie.
Always taste as you for seasoning. It will be perfect for you next time, enjoy!

No, the ricer retains the skin, I just pull it out after each squeeze.
