I'm 47 mother of three young adult son's, and I have struggled all my life, I have been waiting now for 8months, it's driving me and my family mad, the not knowing, I need to know, I have currently been diagnosed with OCD ptsd fibromyalgia severe recurrent digestive issues and bipolar, which has never felt right, and seems to be common among women who where missed. I have suffered a lot of trauma in my life because I didn't receive any support or understanding and I was labelled as bad. I need this for me. I'm relieved for you child, it's much better to have a definitive understanding of why we are the way we are, because without it the labels others give us are very harmful. Good luck to you all for the future, I'm so very happy for you all.

I hope you find answers soon! I feel like if you feel like you know it’s true then on the balance of probability it is true. When I let some family and friends know about the diagnosis they just said yep we knew that already didn’t we. If things that help autistic people help you too then do what you can now to use those tools.

I feel like saying congratulations but also not sure that’s appropriate 🤣 I am so happy for you to have a diagnosis and Oli will be able to continue to get the support he needs in life.

It feels appropriate, but yeah its a complicated feeling all round. I’m pleased and talking to Oli about it he seems positive. It’s great that there’s support, processes and communities that he can depend on.

I am happy you have your answers. It is definitely a relief when the doctors finally see all the things we see and question as parents.

I had no idea but also didn’t want to get one unless we could prove in some way we were meant to have one. I assumed there were requirements. Thanks!

I'm pleased to hear you now have some answers and hope it will help Olli get the support he needs. I was the same when I finally got a diagnosis of borderline personality disorder because it meant I felt less alone and it opened doors for specialist support. So I get what you mean about being happy about the autism diagnosis.
I'd really like to hear about how the conversation with Olli goes when you discuss his autism diagnosis with him.

Glad Oli got his diagnosis, should really make a change for him, and obviously it’s great that things are done and finished. School sent me home today because of my back pain at the end of lunch, they can only give one paracetamol between 11-2 which quite frankly does not cut it for a 16 year old, and there was no flexibility. I usually carry some but today I couldn’t find them, I’ve been taking daily meds for 9 years I would think I would be trusted with knowing how much paracetamol I need! I was in so much pain I just didn’t know what to do with myself and felt like I was going insane, if it carries on tomorrow my mum is going to get me a doctors appointment. Hopefully Oli will be able to access loads more services now!

I know what you mean we was relieved when we got my sons diagnosis after so long of fighting and getting accused of it being us a parents etc but I totally get how you are feeling and now they can help him. My son is struggling having a lot of sensory overloads in school and home. Did she mention anything about sensory needs with his asd xx

Ahh so glad he got his diagnosis, i know this will be such a relief for you, its just that you have an answer thats all that matters. Let me know how the talking to Oli about it goes, a year after Luke's diagnosis and i still haven't told him, he's always upset about the ADHD so i dont want to add to it.

Bless him, I don’t know how Oli will take it but I imagine he will be kind of indifferent because he won’t fully get it. It is a huge relief knowing now though. I feel like a lot of mystery and cloudiness has been moved so we can get in and support Oli properly.
