None of the things you mentioned as being embarrassing would you ever classify as embarrassing if your child displayed the same trait. Remember to extend yourself compassion and unconditional love too❤️
There are studies happening right now that looks at this. Just because you have ptsd, does not meant that you don't have ADHD. AND I don't agree that the testing people know all, trust your own gut/intuition (and research of course). They are humans that see you for a limited amount of time.
Stephanie, I was so shocked to hear you talk about Avoidant Personality and Dependent Personality disorder as I am diagnosed with these things as well. I know you don't meet all the criteria to be clinically diagnosed with these but it was so amazing to hear you speak about them! I try to bring mental health awareness on my Tik Tok account,; as UA-cam is harder for me to document that type of stuff on. But I'm so glad I know someone that is on a social media platform and can use that to help educate others about these personality disorders as I feel like they are not talked about as much. I just wanted to say thank you for including that in your video as it made me smile to know someone else who presents with the same thing as me!
I work with children who have autism in a special school, I was diagnosed as a child but for some reason never identified with it and was in denial. I recently had the first adult evaluation since adulthood, looking at everything across the board. To my surprise, it again wrote, autism, OCD, ADHD. It also picked up attachment issues, I completely get the clarity it brings. I went because I thought I had a personality disorder and like I didn't fit in anywhere. I had extreme issues with maintaining any relationships and wasn't expecting it to come back with autism. I felt oddly reassured when I received the same diagnosis with added attachment. It is so hard when you have some mental health crossover, for the first time I am accepting myself. My cousin, who is like a brother to me, has nonverbal autism, ignorantly, I always saw so much difference and forgot to look at the similarities. I hope this brings you the closure you need from a life time of searching for answers. great video
It makes complete sense that you have concerns with attachment because autistic people are at high risk of being bullied and exploited. I’m sorry you experienced this
I had a lot of low scores on the Vineland too! I thought I was living relatively independently, and didn’t realize my executive function is affecting me so much. When I was growing up, people always got so annoyed that I needed help with daily living skills since I got all A’s in school. I feel like therapists don’t understand it either since I do live alone and get tasks done when I need to! Just because I do everything I need to in my daily life doesn’t mean it’s still not a struggle!
"people always got so annoyed that I needed help with daily living skills since I got all A’s in school. " SO MUCH THIS! Add to it growing up in neglect so everyone was annoyed that iw as alive to begin with
Since I started seeing you talk about getting tested it's given me the courage to talk to my psychiatrist to get about getting myself tested. I'm so glad you are open about this.
Thank you so much for this video. I truly appreciate it. You are helping so many adults and parents with kids that are struggling with teens on the spectrum.
Loved your video I can relate to so much of it. You're truly inspiring ❤ I have a very bad trait that nearly controls every aspect, I always feel like someone is talking about me or doesn't like me or is happy I'm not around at the moment.... it's so hard because there's no HOW do I not do this. I'm a huge how person, especially in the "why" how. Confusing I know. Love your work sister ❤ always be you!!
A lot of this explains me so well. It has me questioning my just recent adhd diagnosis I just got at age 42. I feel like everything you said explains ME.
Thanks for sharing the unhealthy friendship dynamics too. I think having a defined “rescuer” role in friendships was a way for me to compensate for my underlying social difficulties. Setting boundaries and focusing on healthy relationships is scary but I want to believe it’s worth it in the end.
Thank you so much for sharing this information, you are helping more people than you know. Information for adult females on the spectrum is hard to find but recently I have been finding more and more and it is so encouraging for people like myself who are struggling and have struggled. I am undiagnosed with any labeled disorders but I feel very connected with a lot of the anxiety, adhd, social issues and sensory processing issues associated with autism. Regardless of it I do get a diagnosis later or not knowing other people are struggling with the same issues makes me feel not so alone.
Thank you so much for sharing! It really does help so, so much to hear an autistic person describing their experience in connection to results like that, especially because I'm only self-diagnosed and really am wanting an official assessment, it helps to validate my own experiences in a way that makes me feel less like an imposter because I so so much related to a lot of what you've described experiencing.
I can honestly relate to the dependent personality disorder. A lot of that overlaps with my seeking reassurance that people won’t leave me from my OCD. I can almost guarantee if I were to talk to my doctor about dependent personality disorder I would have it....
Love your videos they are inspiring and sharing the content that you do is helpful. some days I feel overwhelmed with some of the struggles with my son we haven't got a diagnosis yet but it's leading up to autism. So thank you for sharing what you do on your videos 💞
I noticed that as well but i feel like its uncomfortable to look at ppl in the eyes its intimidating. im so proud that you have been opening up about your results.
Thank you for sharing this - it needs a lot of courage to 'put yourself out there', so to speak, and I applaud you for having it. I was diagnosed with ASD almost 9 years ago - as an adult - and hadn't heard of avoidant personality disorder or dependent personality disorder until I watched this video, but it's like a lightbulb has switched on. I'm not good in social situations at all, actively avoiding them, and have only a couple of friends who I trust completely, as I have no idea how to 'be' with others. Thank you for all you do promoting neurodiversity and acceptance - it's great to see 'me' talked about and represented in terms of ASD. :-)
I think sharing a video about PTSD would help others. As someone who is diagnosed with PTSD, it's not easy and it definitely affects my life. Being sxually abused for 3 years as a child and then being held up at gun point 11 years after that has made me scared. I struggle with things. I'm a sensitive person.
Wow I hear some of myself in you. I hope you share more about mental health. There is still such a stigma about it. I found it easier to say I have depression, than anixety or bipolar 2. It just been over the last several years that I can say I have bipolar 2, anxiety, depression and Complex PTSD. I understand about wanting to be a fixer, I did spend a lot of time trying to fix someone or at least help them. I also have a bad habit of trying to mother everyone, most likely because my own mother failed at it.
Thank you, missed an appropriate assessment due to not having access to childhood people that knew me as a child. Will be going to get a better diagnosis with properly trained individuals that want to help people get the support system implemented.
You mentioned you wanted to make a separate educational video on PTSD... Can't find it... Maybe you will one day? I'd be grateful. And thank you for your other videos, they are very unlike anything else on autism I've been able to find online...
Thanks for breaking this down. It is very interesting. (My mom laughs at everything too.) I would love to have some form of evaluations like this, but I probably won't have the opportunity.
I love your series. I highly doubt I'd get autism diagnosis. I think my issue is religious trauma etc. I feel like I don't fit it, things go over my head a lot. But I feel very tuned into social, like too much. But I'm always off. I'm living on a different wave length. But omg how refreshing to watch these. I think it's possible because I'm in my 4th citizenship that I just don't fit in. Maybe that's all it is. I relate so much!! I've been able to let go of some self doubt thanks to you. But it's possible i have autism. I have severe social anxiety. But I can read social cues above average that's why I probably don't have it. But thank you We love these. Don't let haters stop you. That's their hobby, knocking other people.
Thank you so much for sharing this information. :) I have a question. I performed the ADOS - 2 Module 4 and got my results back 2 days ago. Have been diagnosed with both Autism and ADHD. My Communication result was 5 [cut-off 2] and my RSI result was 10 [cut-off 7]= and got a result of 15 > 10 and being diagnosed in the Autism Range. However the cut-off range displayed on your screen at 4:39 is different, and I am not sure if a different version of ADOS was used for your assessment.
With the more accurate diagnoses and medication change/s, has anything improved yet? Have you spoken with your doctor/s if any therapies might be appropriate (assuming you had time lol) for you beyond the counseling for ptsd? Like speech therapy for the stutter & mispronounced words, or physical therapy to help with coordination (broken bones, sprained ankle spring to mind) etc?
Therapy and med management is the best. Speech therapy wouldn’t help with my stutter. Physical therapy isn’t something I qualify for. But it has helped IMMENSELY with therapy and med management

Love this . Sounds like my assessment too and also talked alot bout my interest I had fleeting eye contact not sure what my scores were tho 💙 o also have bpd so feel that on so many levels ur amazing 💙
FYI when and if you are looking into higher education etc it is best to have to most recent neurophych testing in order for places to be more willing / required to provide accommodations. Like they can get very expensive and are very difficult to get covered by insurance. But FYI if you are in the Boston area apparently Harvard Medical School does FREE neurophych testing
I just want to say thank you. I have always felt that i am not like the other moms (or people in general) out there and now I am starting to realize that i am maybe on the spectrum. It feels weird to say it out aloud. I am really scared to be told that i am just a freak or that i am pretending... Any advice? I have never ever told anybody about my struggles, but i think i am finally ready. Got my first appointment next month.
Can I ask how long you waited, if at all, to get your diagnosis? I had gone my whole life misdiagnosed also. I am 44 and currently on a 9-12 month long wait list just for a diagnosis. My son is 5, autistic and apraxia of speech (nonverbal). Autism was new to me when he was diagnosed but now all these light bulbs are going on about my entire life. And was the diagnosis expensive? Thank you Stephanie☺️
When I had mine done, we were looking at Nonverbal Learning Disability, but I basically had a ton of assessments done to suss things out. The hallmark for an NLD diagnosis is a 10+ point difference between your verbal IQ and performance IQ (the number we associate with our IQ score, is the average of the two), Mine were 29 points different. So, I definitely wasn't imagining things.
I really loved ❤ 💕 the video and I will always respect your beautiful family and kids and don't let anyone criticize you and let you down cuz i got your back
A lot of the behavioral is exactly what I do constantly. I just don't have the stutter however I laugh like you do as well as doing it during inappropriate times. I have ptsd I am currently on medication for it. It's very difficult to live with. Ptsd is very difficult to live with. I jump at loud sounds, I have flashbacks of things.
If you haven't ever seen the grid comparing the symptoms of adhd, odd, autism, and trauma, it is worth a look. Trauma can complicate diagnosing all of these things.
@@OurLANDingCrew8 see that's where I'm lost. I've been down a rabbit hole learning about autism as I suspect my 2 year old may be. I super relate to so much and am convinced I'm on the spectrum. However, I don't think I had abnormal early development, as in walking and talking. I've heard I did those within "normal" milestone age. So it's like maybe I am just that terrible at communicating, making eye contact, constant nail picking, sensory sensitivities, etc. Which is kind of a bummer if there's no cause for these things I've struggled with since my earliest memories.
do most assessors use the autism revised interview thing? I am scheduled for an autism assessment in August on August 26th. I have trouble with eye contact too and interrupt others too! I'm bad at socializing too and making friends!
At age 7, I was diagnosed as LAZY and BRAT. 50 years later a friend of a friend said, "do you realize your friend Torby has aspergers?" I thought he was nuts, but he works with aspires, somaybe hewas right. Over the next few months, several more people who you would think would know said Autism. Well now I know why I was LAZY BRAT, so I say ASD.
I have always known/noticed that I have a problem with talking to someone and keeping eye contact. I always thought it could be because of my anxiety and I’m more of a introvert person.
I struggle with lots of these and have horrible social anxiety since a child i considered autism but haven't bothered getting tested i definitely struggle with depression and dyslexia
Is dependent personality disorder a side effect of early ptsd? I had a traumatic event happen at 6 and I forever did the same thing with seeking out the bird with broken wing friends to fix and narcissist boyfriends. I also have problems making eye contact when I talk and avoidant disorder of social situations. This is making me want to get evaluated but I live in Florida and I’m sure it’s harder here. 😞
Since you do not hear things the way they are do you have trouble spelling? I have ALWAYS been a VERY bad speller. The older I get the more words I find that I have heard wrong...the last one (And you can laugh) is bonfire...I thought it was bombfire!!! And I will be 68 years old on the 23rd of this month!!!
@@OurLANDingCrew8 I'm glad that you can spell...it makes life SO much easier. Not so important now with spell check as it was in the olden days when I was young...LOL!!!
I really want to get assessed... but my parents essentially don't believe in this kinda stuff so if they have to interview my mom or family they will probably lie :( I'm 23 and have been wanting to get help since I was 13... :(
I believe I’m in the Spectrum and so does my husband. My assessments are coming up and are going to be in 3 parts 😑. 2 assessments over the phone then they will give me the results I don’t know how I am going to cope with the waiting. How did you do it? Any advice. My first appointment is one the 26 of March my results are in month.
I didn't know you had a personality disorder. Personality disorders(Borderline personality, Narcissistic Personality etc) get the most stigmatized honestly.
It definitely is stigmatized. I wasn’t diagnosed with a personality disorder, I didn’t have enough to meet the DSM criteria but I do have tendencies of it so I thought it would be helpful to others. So kind of like you can have traits of OCD but not have OCD
@@OurLANDingCrew8 ok! I’m going in for my assessment on the 19th. I was diagnosed with BPD in 2000 (at 15 wtf), ADHD in 2003, and PTSD in 2015. The BPD diagnosis didn’t make sense and ADHD and PTSD didn’t fully explain things, as I saw people around me improve and my life get more and more chaotic despite my efforts to improve it. Also I’ve always struggled to get people, feel consistently misunderstood and unheard, get overwhelmed really easily, will stim, have persistent anxiety and mood dysregulation that does not respond to meds and often feel like I’m an alien who just does not get it I hope this assessment brings some clarity
None of the things you mentioned as being embarrassing would you ever classify as embarrassing if your child displayed the same trait. Remember to extend yourself compassion and unconditional love too❤️
Aww thank you Kelly!!! You’re right.

Steph I have a question and you can answer this in a Q&A are you a sencory seeker or avoider?
Avoider.
@@OurLANDingCrew8 oh ok I'm mostly an avoider
social motivation means you want acceptance from others I think right?
I struggle with lots of these and have horrible social anxiety since a child i considered autism but haven't bothered getting tested i definitely struggle with depression and dyslexia
Is dependent personality disorder a side effect of early ptsd? I had a traumatic event happen at 6 and I forever did the same thing with seeking out the bird with broken wing friends to fix and narcissist boyfriends. I also have problems making eye contact when I talk and avoidant disorder of social situations. This is making me want to get evaluated but I live in Florida and I’m sure it’s harder here. 😞
Yes it’s usually from trauma.
Where did you get evaluated at and diagnosised at? Do they take Medicaid? I've been trying to find a place in Colorado.
Whole Kids and I don’t know anywhere here that doesn’t take Medicaid lol
Were you given a Level in ASD? I heard there are a few different levels depending on the severity?
I am level 1 :)
My ADOS looked similar to yours! So interesting
I’m actually a great speller but it’s because I have a photographic memory so once I see it know how to spell it
@@OurLANDingCrew8 I'm glad that you can spell...it makes life SO much easier. Not so important now with spell check as it was in the olden days when I was young...LOL!!!
This video has essentisl summed up me alot i think am definatly on spectrum
This is just the beginning.
I really want to get assessed... but my parents essentially don't believe in this kinda stuff so if they have to interview my mom or family they will probably lie :( I'm 23 and have been wanting to get help since I was 13... :(
Thank you for sharing God bless u all
I feel like you were explaining me...
How does that work? My parents are gone. But I have a behavioral health case worker and she thinks I have it
I believe I’m in the Spectrum and so does my husband. My assessments are coming up and are going to be in 3 parts 😑. 2 assessments over the phone then they will give me the results I don’t know how I am going to cope with the waiting. How did you do it? Any advice. My first appointment is one the 26 of March my results are in month.
Great video 😊
They actually wont test me for ASD because of the severity of my CPTSD-DTD. It's frustrating.
Level 1or 2
1
You’re lucky I’m getting reevaluating am level two right now
You should try sensory toy channel
Did you ever take medication for ADHD and if so did it help?
When I was real young and it did but I was basically a zombie
Oh my GOD. I look away when talking as well!!!
Never knew about the ADHD and PTSD overlap’!
A lot of people don’t! It’s why I talked about it because I found it really interesting
You are just wonderful..
❤
What level did they assess you at?
I’m level 1 (low support)
@@OurLANDingCrew8 ok! I’m going in for my assessment on the 19th. I was diagnosed with BPD in 2000 (at 15 wtf), ADHD in 2003, and PTSD in 2015. The BPD diagnosis didn’t make sense and ADHD and PTSD didn’t fully explain things, as I saw people around me improve and my life get more and more chaotic despite my efforts to improve it. Also I’ve always struggled to get people, feel consistently misunderstood and unheard, get overwhelmed really easily, will stim, have persistent anxiety and mood dysregulation that does not respond to meds and often feel like I’m an alien who just does not get it
I hope this assessment brings some clarity
