Get To Work is literally one of the biggest packs in the game though. It really isn't small. Having 3 careers (even if you think the active careers are underwhelming, you can play them as regular careers), retail, a new world (I know it's tiny) and an occult. Now we get, like, one of those features in an entire expansion pack. Just to clarify: I'm not commenting on how good the pack is or isn't. I'm talking about the size of the pack. It is one of the biggest packs in terms of gameplay and actually expanding the game. Even though the world is small, there are quite a few hidden lots that add to the experience. It's a pretty big pack, objectively.
@@underground1279 I dont think it sucks. I use the retail system all the time and I enjoy the careers. And while the build buy isn't necessarily good for homes, but there's a ton of awesome items for community builds. I use it a ton.
Yeah but what’s the point of all that if it doesn’t work 😂 I really regret buying it. Instead of retail system I build my own mini shops at my own lot with market table. Works more smoothly 😊
Are you kidding me? Cats and Dogs sucked. I like the build/buy mode, but even that. It didnt even have dog houses or smaller pets. Even the cats and dogs suck. Why cant we see their needs? Or anything? Or their traits or skills? I never know when my pets will age up. Is it just me? It did kill me inside when I saw it didnt have reptiles or birds or... rodents... It's a 4/10 for me and Im being generous. Even Seasons could be better. Vampires and Laundry Day are great though.
@@iamnotjack.whydidichangeI feel the same. The developers have a twisted vision sometimes. They said no dog houses cause dogs shouldn't be outside. Like what the hell is that? Also there not a water bowl but there is animation for drinking puddles. The vet thing is cool but I never use it. One of my least favorite packs. I do have pets often but it doesn't feel like it is a expansion.
This is actually so sad. I feel bad saying it but if they would not be in the game most of us might not even notice. And to think I was so excited for them back when they came out. But I hardly ever play with them now.. 😔
@@ScalestheMaenad Mermaids and Aliens both have pretty much nothing going for them. I really hope they both get refreshes at some point so they are on par with Vampires, Mages, and Werewolves. They deserve better. (I've honestly never played with mermaids because... we have three better occults. Aliens only got attention from being the very first pack)
There’s literally no reason for it when you know very well it will go on sale eventually. I’ve wanted For Rent since before it came out and now (months later) I’m considering getting it because it’s on sale
I just love how different opinions we all have as a community, because for me, Snowy Scape is one of the MOST COMPLETE packs ever. It has a lot of features, introduced us to Personality Traits and Rental lots (and later rental for all worlds), it has Hiking, Climbing, New Festivals, Skiing, Snowboarding. You don't need Seasons to have a different weather, and if you only have that pack and base game, you'll be just fine. And, above all that, the builds are beautiful, and don't even need to bulldoze it. The Sims team really worked hard for this one, and I remember that was the last time I was actually excited for a release
This is one of the few packs I actually paid full price for, not that everyone should. But I got it for myself for christmas and had the best time playing it! ❤
I think it's funny that she says "I'm from florida" to justify why she's not very interested in the beach world, but also not very interested in the snow mountain world
Real I'm from Florida and I think snow looks cool and I want to see it once in my life but for now it's eh. The beach is fine not like very day but if someone wants to go they can go and I'll be in the shade. I don't need any more soon, in all honesty I like the water at night better anyway
@@anonymouslol7010 I personally like Florida winter with warm clothing or Florida summer inside... Idk I like 75 to 80 degrees as my middle spot but I hate the heat. I assume they just like typical Florida whether anywhere below 93 And with a AC on.
Yeah I was wondering why she didn’t mention that. I actually really like the lifestyles and actively try to get different ones for my sims depending on their personalities.
yeah, but that’s the ONLY saving grace of the pack. also, if you look at it and receive it so many times, it’s bound to get tiring. you also can be doing the most random activities and you receive it, it’s so odd and weird to me.
I'm a big Sims 4 defender when people shit on the game, but the lifestyles are one of the few things I really don't care for. Hated the sentiments they added around that time too.
I think it’s so interesting when people rate Get to Work low. I’m my opinion, it feels like one of the last really flushed out expansion packs. Entire full in person careers, retail stores, aliens. The build objects are also really useful for community and creative builds. And the career buildings are some of EA’s best builds. They would make us pay that price for just one of those elements now .
I think the problem is that it’s only useful when you are playing one of those careers. Otherwise it’s completely forgettable. Aliens were fun for a little while but it’s just past that moment for me. I personally never use those build objects. The doctor career was aweful to me and the detective was ok - a little buggy. The scientist track is the best one and while I still use this pack occasionally it’s definitely not my favorite nor is it my least favorite. I would say packs that get continuous game use are the best packs whereas you have to go out of your way to play this one.
i want to add there are a lot of fun mods that require get to work, most of them being more interactive careers. this def makes it worth it imo, especially if you’re not gonna buy all of the packs
@@muratuysallI pretty much got Get to Work on sale awhile back because of mods that use it and not even for itself. That being said, retail is fine and I occasionally use it. But the scientist career is basically the only live career in the pack that is kinda fun. It was clearly the devs testing out how to do live/active careers and they got slightly better at it in some later packs.
exactly, like even though it had a trash world, had some EXCELLENT careers and a reusable retail system (im looking at you cats and dogs). it felt fleshed out and didn’t feel like a cop out (im also giving the side eye to horse ranch here)
I LOVE city living I use it in like every save, even if my sims aren't living in san myshuno I go to the different festivals at least a couple of times with literally every sim. The collections you can get with posters and snowglobes and discovering new foods, mostly from non-western cultures that your sim learn how to cook after eating is all very neat and pretty fun, I think. My go to world for starter sims is also like 80% of the time going to be one of the small myshuno apartments, they're just really good.
and the cas is so good especially considering that it's one of the earliest packs, i like get to work but cas wise city living wins in every regard. even the more "extreme" cas clothing is useable and fun when your sim is really rich or eccentric, compared to get famous weird stuff which are just extreme in the worst way
Yes! Currently I can't have any packs or kits because of my computer's capacity, and the one I really miss is City Living! I love the possibility to try different foods (I love cooking and eating in The Sims and IRL) and also it's a nice area to be in - and I love to live in the apartments! And yeah if I were to only install one thing it would probably be City Living.
@@Mikusagi yeah you and i are definitely on the same wavelength! bummer about your computer, hope you can get something a bit stronger sometime in the future!
my sims almost always live in san myshuno, because i love the apartments and the challenge of furnishing them I just wish you could remove some lot traits, because there is a really beautiful apartment with a balcony but your sims are always tense because they saw rats
@@thekingrah6882 yeah i like the challenge but it is a bit annoying. i dont play in those too often so im not sure but there might be cheat so you can remove it?
clubs from get together are also great with HS gameplay. make an art club, cheer club, chess club. set the activities and requirements to teens. boom, classmates!
i do that without high school years. i prefer to make friend groups or bands with the club system. i have the nerdy club and the sports club and then ofc the matriarchs of the school
I really wish there was some type of bundle option with kits like 3 for $10 or something. There’s a couple that I really like but I just can’t justify it!
tell me why i just searched this thinking "oh god how outdated are they gonna be" just to see you posted this 3 hours ago??? an angel sent from heaven fr
I literally just watched her old video last week when I was trying to decide to buy Eco Lifestyle 😂. Spoiler - I bought it bc I like saving the Earth in real life AND in The Sims 🌱🌎
I like the world. It is one of very few which actually has decent sized lots. Most lots in other worlds are tiny so you can only build really small houses on them. And only one house per lot. At least get famous has lots big enough to put a row of terraced houses or semi-detached houses on them to make them look like more realistic streets. Its unrealistic for every house to be detached.
It’s a favorite for me too! ❤ I love the actor career, I love the Orchid a Go Go lounge, (although I always renovate it) I adore Thorne Bailey, who almost every UA-camr hates 😂 and it adds a drama club for kids and teens.
I used to really not like Get Famous but I am playing through the acting career right now and I am REALLY enjoying it. I also really do like the world more than others (though the builds have problems).
One of the things I like about the University expansion is that you can have Teens go to college if you have them graduate from High school early. It allows me to give them a head start on their career and pick up relevant skills without losing any of thr Lifespan of the Young Adult stage.
I usually do this if I'm going to send a Sim to university, and I play on a normal lifespan so they're generally finished at the very start of their young adult period. It boosts some of the more difficult careers SO MUCH that it's well worth the time and effort invested in getting the degree.
@@sophiag612See I hated TS3 university because it basically locks you in an alternate University Universe. TS2 and TS4 had way more flexible university packs and turning off aging is easily within my control in TS4 without going into University World lockdown, which I prefer. While I think TS3 has better gameplay in a lot of other areas, I don’t include University in that list.
I'm Native, so I maaaaaay be biased, but Horse Ranch 100% necessary. I don't really care about horses, but I NEED buckskin vests and white sage smudge clutter.
city living is my absolute favorite and three of the reasons why were omitted: 1. food stalls where you can learn the recipes. (plus my favorite death! fugu poisoning!) 2. dynamic public areas. the available stalls change. locations change 3. festivals! the spice festival is my favorite food stalls but also because i love winning the curry champion. it's a family tradition in my current save file
I played base game for years until I finally caved and bought my first pack, Cottage Living. It was so much fun! I’m happy I picked it as my first one. Now there are only 2 I don’t own 😊
My surprise favourite: eco lifestyle My biggest disappointment: high school years My 'wish I got a refund' : horse ranch My guilty pleasure: island living My ride or die: cottage living
I actually agree with a lot of this. I think Island Living really could use an update, but what it has is very solid and enjoyable! Eco Lifestyle is very fun (love having a poor sim who does dumpster diving), and Cottage Living is probably the best pack, even though the festivals are buggy. I find High School Years borderline unplayable with all the bugs and how repetitive it is, even though I thought I'd enjoy it. I haven't actually played with horses yet, but your ranking is making me fear I will not enjoy them lol...
@@lrp71 Island living could def use a refresh, I'm biased bc I'm from a small pacific island so it reminds me of home. And yes with horse ranch... If you weren't dying to have it the day it came out, i don't think you will enjoy it haha. I was lukewarm on the idea but bought it right out the gate and regret it. Did all of the gameplay in about an hour and won't repeat it again lol, really really empty imo 😬
@@skunkjo3195I've never been to a Pacific island (sadly, bc they look so beautiful and interesting!), but I genuinely appreciate that the team put effort into making IL feel like an actual community! It's not just another resort/vacation pack. Vacations are fun, too, of course, but I think the engagement with actual Polynesian culture was sorely needed. The architecture, townies, and world are some of the best, and I really like the updated fishing + conservation angle. With some improvements to mermaids and a bit more gameplay, I think the pack would really shine!
18:14 the only explanation I can think of is that it maybe is a reference to when Avril Lavigne was in the first sims game and her team made a rule that she couldn't use the toilet? like a "famous people don't piss" joke
I feel like I'm one of the rare simmers who loves high school years 😅 The thrift and bubble tea lot was what sold it for me, but I ended up loving ALL the cas + build/buy items (i use it for young adults too). The Active high school I find it great for story telling. For example my sim got a crush on someone and it was so cute seeing their love story build up. They're high school sweethearts and have 4 kids now 😊. Now I do agree with lil simsie that it's time consuming so I only do active school with the sim who will be the next heir of my legacy challenge. The university pack used to be my fav my I feel like high school years executed things better. I love going to prom and graduation vs university graduation is just a rabbit hole 😔 classes too... which sucks if you're living on campus because you're sitting around waiting for your sim the majority of the time.
I actually enjoy the expansion myself, but I hate how short lived the prom is. Same with the events. It seems like you are given 5 in game hours and 1 of those is wasted on judging for contests and another hour is walking to the field for sports events or whatever. What I do love is the intro to all of the skills and the job opportunities afterwards if you are a prime student. Though, getting offered tier 5 jobs right out of high school kind of makes university pointless if your sim is offered a job in the field they want. Career day is a bit boring too, like, why can't I actually learn about jobs or get something out of it? It is a very lack luster event. I also wish we could go to the after school activities but with them being only 90 game minutes, I see why we can't.
I haven’t watched this video & I have no idea what Kayla is about to say regarding Get to Work - but I argue that it is one of the best EPs the team has ever released and will ever release. Okay, maybe Magnolia Promenade sucks. Okay, maybe the careers have some issues. Putting that aside, this is one of the most expansive packs for me after Seasons and Growing Together. I have all kinds of retail stores in my game - bridal, pet, grocery, bookstores, clothing, I basically have a Target in my game. When I am feeling like putting in some effort, I will go to the large mall and buy furniture for my Sim home or apartment. I will take my sim child to buy their first bike or instrument. I will buy premade birthday and wedding cakes. I will buy artwork or floral bouquets. If I want that active sim life, I will have at least one of my sims own a store or havee an active career and maybe follow them to work for a week So I don’t get bored waiting for them to come back from a rabbit hole. I also play with mods and some of my favorite use Get to Work like Pandasama mods. If someone asks me for my top expansion packs, Get to Work is on it because I actually find myself using the features every time I play unlike some others where part of the appeal actually came from the basegame pre-patch. I will die on this hill.
I just got Get Famous and omg I love it I adore building the most obnoxious mansions in the high part of Del Sol Valley, they look ridiculous but they are so fun to build. The gameplay is also pretty cool, I'm currently making a legacy challenge where every sim must be 5 star celebrities
After seeing James Turner having to pivot because he literally couldn’t get the for rent gameplay features to function… yeah, it’s a solid pass. He’s been a professional sims UA-camr for what, a decade??, and HE can’t get it to work 😮.
I haven’t had an issue with For Rent corrupting/breaking my saved. (Crystal Creations update made up for that though.) I can’t speak to the landlord side of it as of right now, but I can speak on the tenant side of the gameplay. I started RosannaTxt’s Pack Legacy Challenge, and I’ve got my founder sim living in a residential rental unit I pulled from the gallery. I’ve had no problems at all. Just… I feel like appliances break a bit more frequently than in regular residentials, and sometimes the tenant events can sometimes feel like they happen back to back (I might just be unlucky). Other than that, I don’t really have any complaints. But like I said, I haven’t played a landlord sim yet, so I can’t speak on any issues for that side of the For Rent experience.
@@kattastrophe7240Crystal Creations completely broke two of my favourite save files. 😭 A quarter of the sims had to be deleted (although I was able to save them to my library first) and around the same number of lots had to be bulldozed. It affected one save that I have over 30 households that I play rotationally, and my 100 baby save file.
@@teacherchristinamtn4741 He's very specifically playing as the owner of a large number of rental residential lots. Those gameplay features- the ones related to earning money by being a landlord and owning multiple rental residentials- are so buggy it's literally gamebreaking, but if u just want to play as a tenant... it's still buggy, but it's not gamebreaking, merely irritating. Still wouldn't pay full price for it, mind you, but if you just want to play as a tenant I wouldn't let James Turner's letsplay put you off the pack entirely. (Personally I've been able to play as the owner of a single rental residential which I lived in with minimal bugs as well, but it's definitely buggier than being just a tenant.)
i enjoy building community lots and get to work has been an absolute necessity to me. it’s one of my favorite packs. also eco lifestyle’s community lots are so much fun!! i love building them, and i love how active they are. whenever i visit them, there’s a lot of sims actually using the items i placed. great video!
Simsie's rankings: Must have (on sale): - Seasons (makes the world more lively and holidays, good build buy, but no world, gardening busted), - Cats and Dogs (vet clinic fun, pets in every household, good build/buy), - Get Together (uses clubs every time, great world), -Growing Together (makes infants/toddlers better for long lifespan, great build buy, great cas, meh world with good builds, always uses it, must have for family gameplay) Very good: - City Living (good in general, lots of apartment lots, versatile build buy). -Cottage Living (good build buy, good world, simsie's vibe) - For Rent: amazing for building, good cas, terrible bugs, only buy if you love building) Pretty good: - Discover University (focused-meh world, university and skills fun, build-buy is mixed), - Eco Lifestyle (good build buy, meh world, good cas, interesting skills), - Horse Ranch (very yeehaw but can be fun, horses fun but not used often, some build buy really good, great for wooden/rustic vibes) Just Fine: -Highschool years (doesn't use school never invited to prom, uses the fairgrounds a lot, more buy than build) - Snowy Escape (build buy doesn't mix well, spa, skiing, mountain lot, not her vibe, not used much), - Island Living (more of a game pack than an expansion, meh build buy, good world) Not for me: -Get to Work (doesn't use it very much, but can be fun), -Get Famous (bad world, weird build buy, pond/acting career redeem it a little)
I mostly make these so that I can see the ranking summary if I find the video later (my own comment is always at the top) but this is the earliest I've done this on a video so, I hope it helps everyone else too.
Its interesting. I would put get to work up top since it actually gives you stuff to do. I would put growing together at the bottom because its an empty world of rabbit holes and just adds more baby stuff which is boring when you dislike children and play solely with young adults with aging off like I do. I would also put for rent at the bottom for being a game breaking pack. It breaks so many things including corrupting entire save files just using it as its intended to be used. Even the save files you didn't use it in. Its really that broken.
@@AlexaFaie for rent is interesting because satch rated it highly even though it's busted too. It's still great for builders. But satch also put get to work near the top especially if you can mod because a lot of mods make interesting careers based on get to work.
I personally love Snowy Escape, probably bc I like what it comes with the new skills and I love Japanese culture, Japanese landscapes and Japanese inspired buildings
I'm realizing over time that I don't tend to agree with Kayla's opinions of packs, which is fine but means I also have to remember to take it with a grain of salt watching these type of videos for my own sake
@@DulceReposa that could be it, but I also build quite a bit and seem to have totally different opinions on objects. Honestly I think it's just down to personal preferences not necessarily that she's a builder, since builders have all kinds of different styles Which again is natural and perfectly fine
I just got Get To Work actually. My grey gen heir got pregnant with an Alien! I'm excited about the aliens Hybrids actually. I didn't know they were all different.
@@chyrchhella7804i also did nsb before buying get to work, what I did was i js skipped it LOL im on plum gen now and i just bought it for that gen so hopefully ill be more immersed into the challenge!
There's nothing special about "hybrid" alien Sims. Either they show as an alien, or they show as a regular Sim. Nothing additional really comes of it 🤷🏻♀️
@@KittyCat260 personally I find it interesting. It's different. I don't know. Makes it even more special or like add to the characters you know? My first baby is human/sim but has his alien parent complexion. 🤭
@@KittyCat260Yeah, sometimes hybrids in Sims 4 are just blue or green with no alien powers. But honestly, I loved playing with Aliens in sims 2 and even pure aliens were just basically green sims with higher resistance to weather. But I made up a whole story in my head about them being refugees. 😂
If your playing style is close to Kayla’s, it’s good. If you want more generalized opinion, James Turner made a huge research with lots of players voting for each pack (including kits) with lots of different categories, you might want to check it out
I feel like Get To Work is pretty essential to me simply because it has 3 of the most basic jobs. Scientist, doctor and police officer were always base game careers in previous games if I remember correctly, and are easily some of the first jobs that come to mind when you think of a job. Even if you don't want to play the active careers, it's just nice to have your sims be those things if you want. Also, I really like that it allows you to accompany pregnant sims to the hospital to give birth, especially if you have something like Pandasama's childbirth mod, in which the experience is lot more in-depth and fun
Hey guys for who didn't know already, the blooming rooms kit is gonna be free in a few weeks, there is not a date i think but don buy it yet save your money💚🎮
I don't think you are begging for money by telling us about creators' codes! Actually, I am glad you say this often because I forget all about it and I buy pretty much every pack as they come out. When I remember/you remind me, I choose to support the smaller coming up creators, so I appreciate that you are speaking for creators as a whole and not just for yourself. I think that's very sweet of you, and I like you even more for that. And I already like you a ton!
51 minutes?! Thank you Kayla. This is just what I needed today. I’m sick (cold) but I cant not go to school tomorrow because a. It’s my birthday tomorrow and b. I have a speaking exam in French tomorrow and I can’t skip that even if I’m sick and not feeling the most healthy 😅 I should be rehearsing my sentences so I feel better and more prepared but instead I’m watching this. Thank you for being a good and entertaining distraction ❤ We love you ❤❤ Update: So.. my teacher fell sick and moved the exam to Monday so I have the entire weekend to rehearse for it and seriously, I’m so relieved not having to do it today anymore. Thank you for all your birthday and good luck wishes ❤ you are the best
Got to wait for those sales! They are discounted sometimes. Bundling also helps. It is expensive though! Not only getting Expansion packs but buying the game packs, stuff packs, and kits too, it all adds up. I always try to get packs when they are on sale
I actually love simsie. I have watched other sim creators and their always like "use my code! Support me!" But simsie said that we could support her OR another creator we like.
I’m surprised this matters to people lol you can just change everything so it blows my mind people care about the townies cuz I always just change them and make them better, lol.
Yeah the snowy escape thing is so true! i grew up like 2 hours away from the mountains so I could go skiing for like a day trip (which is relatively affordable too if you don't stay overnight and pick a cheaper area). So I have my sims go skiing or snowboarding ALL the time and i love the world bc it's the only one with mountains my favourite pack in general is probably city living though
Eco lifestyle is one of my favs, I'm shocked people hated it so much. I would love a Homestead/Bushcraft expansion. I know we have Cottage Living, but I want more! Like give us tooons of plant, fish, hunting, foraging collectables, and tons objects that can be created by combining the collectables (like how you make a death flower). More gardening and interactive recipes and cooking. I know it's not for everyone but there is definitely a market for a Survival-like Sim game-play experience. It would also really compliment lots of other styles of gameplay.
Lol watching Kayla talk about Snowy Escape made me laugh. Part of the reason I want to get Sims 4 (my laptop cant run it) is to go hiking, skiing, using the onsen, and climbing a mountain. To me that is everyday/ normal stuff that I will make my sims do when I get the game. To her its not because she is not used to it. I will also want island living because the tropics sound exciting to me.
8:06 I feel like I overuse Windenburg and Evergreen Harbor but Eco and GetTogether are hands down two of my favorite build EPs. They’re just so versatile. Get Together especially has a ton of versatile build objects like fencing and pillars that I feel like I use in every build.
So I've put off Get Famous for multiple reasons but I now have it and I personally love the acting career. I feel like it could be the fastest way to get rich lol.
I, too, am a builder and I agree with almost every placement and your reasons. The only difference is that, for me, GET FAMOUS is a must have. I love the rich, gauche objects and furniture. I also love the acting career and the costumes. When I build cemeteries, I add a few ghosts dressed in costumes to look like older, period ghosts. I tend to go for packs with good architectural build objects.
It’s funny isn’t it how different we are. I like to use Magnolia Promenade all the time to place gyms, spas, restaurants, clubs etc there are also community items like BBQ playground and fishing. I hardly ever build in Windenburg because it’s so big and if I send my Sim jogging or to walk the dog you never see them again!
I absolutely love the build items in high school years. You said it's a lot of "teenage furniture." Call me a teenager because I use that furniture in every single build. Especially good for people who like pink and art deco styles!
High school years is so good! The build stuff is beautiful, so as the cas. I find it so hard to make houses and sims without high schoo years now! And the gameplay is pretty good and you don't use it all the time but still more than most of the packs.
I only have this pack and I use it in EVERY build! Kayla rated it lower than I would because it isn’t her aesthetic BUT it is soooo mush my style I think it can match with pastel pop kit…
I LOVE Eco Lifestyle, it feels like it was made for me, and I had no idea there was any backlash. I spend most of my gaming time at Evergreen Harbour or using Eco mechanics for playing, and the CAS selection also really fits my vibe along with Discover University, which is another fave of mine. I just wish City Living had a bit more going on, especially with some richer lore, but I do love playing in the apartments.
I've been playing The Sims since 2002, and Seasons has been my favourite since it was first released with The Sims 2. (I remember having seasons and weather felt pretty groundbreaking at the time.) Making Magic and Unleashed were my favourite Sims 1 packs, and I think these three pack styles remain my favourite way to play The Sims - seasons, magic, and pets. 🥰
I feel like the packs that focus on the world are the ones that'll have the most varied opinions. If you see a world that appeals to you, I'd say go for it! I use Island Living and Snowy Escape CONSTANTLY because they fit my gameplay style and I love playing in those worlds. I use Cottage Living and Horse Ranch a lot less because I never play in the worlds and I could take or leave the gameplay and furniture. Except for the expansions that come with truly universal gameplay (Seasons, Get Together, Cats and Dogs), I feel like that's when it really comes down to personal preference. I think the perception that the Sims 4 DLC is lackluster isn't unfounded but it's not really because of the expansions. It's all the piecemeal DLC that really adds up
Kayla I just bought a pack last night wishing you had an updated vid on expansion packs and its giving how i bought sims one month before it became free 😭
To me, my must haves are Seasons, Cats & Dogs, Cottage Living and Eco Lifestyle :3 I'ld say 90% of my playthroughs are rags to riches type ones, usually off the grid with simple living on and doing lots of farming, either outdoors or making greenhouses, with cats or dogs, a cow and chickens and befriending the bunnies xD
This is my first sims video in youtube despite playing for years, and I really enjoyed it! I didn’t even notice how long the video was. After watching, I think I have more appreciation for the packs now haha
I live in Portland, OR (born and raised) and I love how Eco Lifestyle has so many references to here and is so obviously what Californians think Portland is like.
That's sadly how it is for every world outside of the California realm. I'm from Germany, do you think Windenburg is anywhere near good representation? Noo 😂 I still love it though
Hey, I really love your content, I’m really going through a tough time as I have major exams in a week and I’ve just lost a close friend of mine. You’re an amazing content creator and help me calm down. Thank you lilsimsie ❤
I agree with most of Simsie's opinions, but ranking island living higher than get to work is crazy 💀. Get to work comes with 3 live careers and retails, and island living literally has little to no gameplay, just a beautiful world and mermaids that do nothing. If she said she can play the game just fine without get to work, I'm sure she can play the game perfectly without island living. I have all expansion packs and tbh until I saw this, I even forgot about island living 😂
Not to mention that Get to Work, and the shark pond from Get Famous, are like the backbone of her not so berry legacy these days. She's got so much mileage out of those two packs, but basically never uses Island Living lmao. That ranking was a curveball for sure.
@@crazyratlady3115 Yeah its funny how she says she could play without it, but frequently uses items from the pack and uses features like retail so often. It would be interesting if she tried playing one of her saves with get to work turned off just to see the difference. I think she'd have to take back her rating.
Kayla forgot to mention that Get Famous also adds an after-school activity for those kids/teens that are not big on scouts lol. Get Famous adds the drama club after school activity... but yeah the world is weird lol.
I absolutely loved Get to Work. I found it so much fun with developing the freeze ray in the science career and messing with the aliens. The medical and detective careers were fun too. Yes the stuff included wasn't great and there wasn't much of a neighbourhood, but for me gameplay is a huge part of my experience and it's been one of the only packs I've had several days of fun with playing all the different careers and I look back on it so fondly.
The only reason I would buy Horse Ranch is to have those shutters. Actual shutters in the game is such a game-changer for me because I love building traditional houses. I would only buy the pack when it is on sale though
My favorite expansion packs - as a Southeast Asian person with a huge interest in Japan (in fact, so huge I self-studied my way to Japanese fluency) - are Snowy Escape and For Rent. I haven't bought For Rent yet because I'm waiting for that 50% discount, which will probably be in another year or year-and-a-half. In all my time playing The Sims, I never thought we'd get a pack based on the region I grew up in, let alone an entire expansion pack. So it's a big deal to me that the Sims team tried at all. Of course, there could be more put into the pack, but there could always be more. I'm so looking forward to combining it with Home Chef Hustle and playing Rags to Riches with a makcik (auntie) who sells nasi lemak by the roadside to support her family. Especially now they fixed nasi lemak in the game to look more accurate to its real-life counterpart. Snowy Escape was just a no-brainer for me because I love Japanese homes. In fact, all I've been doing is to build Japanese homes based on those seen in real life. (I still haven't played with a single infant, and it's been over a year since infants came out.) But even with like 10 other packs I still couldn't completely recreate the Western-style mansion that is the Yuzo Yamamoto Memorial Museum (where author Yuzo Yamamoto lived in the 1930s in what is now Mitaka, Tokyo) because of the limited swatch system and the lack of proper futons that go on the floor.
I remember desperately wanting farm stuff with sims 1 and sims 2 back in the day and even sims 3 wanting a dedicated pack for farm stuff. Cottage Living will always be my favorite pack. I love it so much ❤
the first pack i ever wanted was island living because i loved the idea of building on water. looking back at it now, i don't even play with it much...
kinda funny that Get Famous is one of my most used packs. the world is a miss and i don’t use the acting career as much as they intended BUT the game play, specifically the fame system is one that i use in most of my households. I think it helps to shed light on the fact that in modern day world, there are now much more ways to get recognized besides singing and acting. I also love that this pack overlaps the other packs so it’s def a pack that can be utilized in almost any gameplay if you choose to.
sooo off topic, but seeing that hector guy in the club menu made me realize that we don't know anything about Stanley. We know he loves a get rich quick scheme and is a weenie, but where did he come from? was he born a weenie or become one? does he have siblings? who are his parents? I NEED STANLEY HUMPHREY LORE.
One of my fav things in all Sims 4 is the different festivals that come from City Living. San Myshuno has 4 city events that bring the city to life - be it the romance festival, the spice festival (my fav) and so on. I love the small bit of diversity that comes from it, all the various street food dishes that you can’t know how to make until you taste it first at those stalls, etc. That’s prob the major selling point of the pack for me, I could not go without it in a let’s play.
For the packs i've got so far I think I agree with you on all but Island Living and I think that really is just the I love the tropical paradise and ocean vibes. Mermaids isn't upto the same level as some of the more developed life states but they're a fair choice if you just want something close to human. I guess there is a few packs that really do come down to what vibes you want to play.
Honestly, Kayla, this has helped SO much. I have been hemming and hawing going back and forth about what I want and your rating videos, especially how thorough they are as to the WHY, have helped me tremendously! THANK YOU!
This was so fun to watch. I enjoy watching you play so much. My sister and I have played sims since sims came out wayyyy long ago. I also think it’s so interesting and funny how everybody plays so differently
everytime thats a sale on EA i like to watch this to decide what im gonna buy, this time im thinkig about island living because i want a world with beach, i was going to buy for rent but it still a little pricey for me
@@1dK628 I don't want the pirate, the lá time I try I ended up getting virus on my PC! and with the new pack coming soon for rent will be cheaper in the next sale!
The reason why Seasons "has always been a pack" is because in the sims 1, the engine couldn't support multiple rotating seasons on each lot (though there were lots that aesthetically looked like different seasons in Magic Town and Vacation), and in the Sims 2, they intended seasons and weather in the base game but couldn't get it to function for release. By 2007, 3 years after the release of the Sims 2, there still wasn't a good way to patch Seasons in for free (there wasn't online updates, only patches that came on discs), and because it was virtually impossible to send every person who had a copy of the Sims 2 a patch disc, they made it an expansion pack. Sims 3 didn't have a better excuse besides greed, and the Sims 4 followed in its foot steps. Seasons should not be DLC moving forward and while it is one of the better S4 packs, it shouldn't have been DLC, regardless of that being how Seasons worked in past games.
It’s funny watching other popular sims channels who absolutely hate all of Kayla’s favourite packs and love her least favourite ones lol Almost every other UA-camr is like “growing together sucks it doesn’t even add anything” lmao Though tbh all people I’ve seen have given valid reasons. It just depends on your style of gameplay
Yeah, even other simmers who play with families a lot were disappointed with growing together just being rabbit holes rather than a proper interactive world, and feeling cheated that the stuff wasn't just added as an update to the Parenthood pack.
In my opinion, an expansion pack should fundamentally change the game. Seasons and Growing Together are the two packs that do that best. It’s more subtle, but every household is affected, not just sims who live in that specific world.
I was so annoyed that you couldn’t build your own apartments when I got City Living that I never played with the apartments in that pack. BUT! I realized there were other aspects of that pack that I love. All the festivals are fun, all the different foods to learn, pufferfish nigiri, and there are so many lot traits!! And the city neighbourhoods are tiny, so they feel like they’re bustling with all the sims in one small area. Also, the park is my favourite wedding venue.
For Rent can straight-up corrupt your saves! I don't think anyone with a platform should be promoting it, frankly. They should be warning people away from it instead.
The only person I see promoting it now is Kayla and idk why she does… She likes the residential rental lot but she literally never plays with any other aspect of the pack. Plus, she doesn’t even use the rentals to be a landlord, which is the point of the pack. I hate being harsh on Kayla but it’s kinda wild she claims she likes the pack this much.
Them forgetting all the toilets in that one house is just hilarious xD Sure, that can happen once, but multiple times? I think they were just messing with us.
But it still sucks tho...😢
@@underground1279 I dont think it sucks. I use the retail system all the time and I enjoy the careers. And while the build buy isn't necessarily good for homes, but there's a ton of awesome items for community builds. I use it a ton.
Yeah but what’s the point of all that if it doesn’t work 😂 I really regret buying it. Instead of retail system I build my own mini shops at my own lot with market table. Works more smoothly 😊

@@Lenalennnnnnnit works well for me 😅 i never had any issues with this pack. What bugs did you see with it?
I think 2017-2018 was the golden era of TS4. With Cats and Dogs, Seasons, Parenthood, Vampires, and Laundry Day all released in that year.
except for vampires, the other packs are really good
Are you kidding me? Cats and Dogs sucked. I like the build/buy mode, but even that. It didnt even have dog houses or smaller pets. Even the cats and dogs suck. Why cant we see their needs? Or anything? Or their traits or skills? I never know when my pets will age up. Is it just me? It did kill me inside when I saw it didnt have reptiles or birds or... rodents... It's a 4/10 for me and Im being generous. Even Seasons could be better. Vampires and Laundry Day are great though.
@@zumi.7153 so you hate occults or something? Cause that game pack has the best vampires of the franchise.

That does make it worse somehow. They really should have a cool tombstone
This is actually so sad. I feel bad saying it but if they would not be in the game most of us might not even notice. And to think I was so excited for them back when they came out. But I hardly ever play with them now.. 😔

I have never bought a pack full-price and honestly I doubt I ever will
Dont. When the game comes out, it usually comes with so many bugs anyway. It's better to wait for it to come cheaper and with an update for the bugs.
Don't ever buy packs full price. Ever

I totally agree, it’s one of the best packs ever made in my opinion!
It was the first EP I ever bought.
This is one of the few packs I actually paid full price for, not that everyone should. But I got it for myself for christmas and had the best time playing it! ❤

@@ville666sora very valid
I think it’s so interesting when people rate Get to Work low. I’m my opinion, it feels like one of the last really flushed out expansion packs. Entire full in person careers, retail stores, aliens. The build objects are also really useful for community and creative builds. And the career buildings are some of EA’s best builds. They would make us pay that price for just one of those elements now .
As someone who doesn't have it, I feel like I'm missing out on some cool features
It was clearly the devs testing out how to do live/active careers and they got slightly better at it in some later packs.
exactly, like even though it had a trash world, had some EXCELLENT careers and a reusable retail system (im looking at you cats and dogs). it felt fleshed out and didn’t feel like a cop out (im also giving the side eye to horse ranch here)
20:52 island living lacking an island counter is comical

it’s almost like they did it on purpose to spite us lol

What a great idea!
I really wish there was some type of bundle option with kits like 3 for $10 or something. There’s a couple that I really like but I just can’t justify it!
Same here! They typically do 20% off with bundles so I’d even pay $12 for a bundle of 3.

yes!!! its one of my favorite packs, i always love using the fame system ❤
Agreed!

I always just turn off aging when my sims are at university. I pretty much miss the entire TS3 university but doing that makes it better for me
Was just thinking of that aswell! I actually love that feature

The architecture, townies, and world are some of the best, and I really like the updated fishing + conservation angle. With some improvements to mermaids and a bit more gameplay, I think the pack would really shine!
18:14 the only explanation I can think of is that it maybe is a reference to when Avril Lavigne was in the first sims game and her team made a rule that she couldn't use the toilet? like a "famous people don't piss" joke
that’s actually a pretty good explanation for something that we shouldn’t have to explain 😂
Oohhhh!!!!
you are a genius lmao
I feel like I'm one of the rare simmers who loves high school years 😅
The thrift and bubble tea lot was what sold it for me, but I ended up loving ALL the cas + build/buy items (i use it for young adults too).

I love it too, I love playing as famous actors/musicians and having them release their real songs 😂
And I tried to make a house worth 1mil, the marble floor definitely helps
I wonder why no one makes a secret society club where only celebrities are able to get in. 😅 (with the get together pack)
I'm so conflicted on For Rent because it sounds so fun but I've heard horror stories about it destroying saves
(Crystal Creations update made up for that though.)
I can’t speak to the landlord side of it as of right now, but I can speak on the tenant side of the gameplay.
From what I understand, the updates the Sims team pushed through in early March fixed the corrupted saves glitch.
(Personally I've been able to play as the owner of a single rental residential which I lived in with minimal bugs as well, but it's definitely buggier than being just a tenant.)

great video!
I never play eco lifestyle. You really inspired me I will give it a chance
Simsie's rankings:
Must have (on sale):
- Seasons (makes the world more lively and holidays, good build buy, but no world, gardening busted),
- Cats and Dogs (vet clinic fun, pets in every household, good build/buy),
- Get Together (uses clubs every time, great world),
-Growing Together (makes infants/toddlers better for long lifespan, great build buy, great cas, meh world with good builds, always uses it, must have for family gameplay)
Very good:
- City Living (good in general, lots of apartment lots, versatile build buy).
-Cottage Living (good build buy, good world, simsie's vibe)
- For Rent: amazing for building, good cas, terrible bugs, only buy if you love building)
Pretty good:
- Discover University (focused-meh world, university and skills fun, build-buy is mixed),
- Eco Lifestyle (good build buy, meh world, good cas, interesting skills),
- Horse Ranch (very yeehaw but can be fun, horses fun but not used often, some build buy really good, great for wooden/rustic vibes)
Just Fine:
-Highschool years (doesn't use school never invited to prom, uses the fairgrounds a lot, more buy than build)
- Snowy Escape (build buy doesn't mix well, spa, skiing, mountain lot, not her vibe, not used much),
- Island Living (more of a game pack than an expansion, meh build buy, good world)
Not for me:
-Get to Work (doesn't use it very much, but can be fun),
-Get Famous (bad world, weird build buy, pond/acting career redeem it a little)
I mostly make these so that I can see the ranking summary if I find the video later (my own comment is always at the top) but this is the earliest I've done this on a video so, I hope it helps everyone else too.
Thanks for your work ❤
Its interesting.
Same.
She's primarily a builder in the game so it's understandable.
@@DulceReposa that could be it, but I also build quite a bit and seem to have totally different opinions on objects. Honestly I think it's just down to personal preferences not necessarily that she's a builder, since builders have all kinds of different styles
Which again is natural and perfectly fine
@@DulceReposayeah, and I'm more of a gameplay person than CAS or building so often our opinions are totally inverted.
I just got Get To Work actually. My grey gen heir got pregnant with an Alien! I'm excited about the aliens Hybrids actually. I didn't know they were all different.
How did you do all the previous gens of not so berry without Get to work?? Mint generation’s main requirement is to master scientist career
@@chyrchhella7804i also did nsb before buying get to work, what I did was i js skipped it LOL
im on plum gen now and i just bought it for that gen so hopefully ill be more immersed into the challenge!
i was literally just thinking about how i wanted you to do one of these 😭
I know right! This has really helped me choose which packs I want
If your playing style is close to Kayla’s, it’s good. If you want more generalized opinion, James Turner made a huge research with lots of players voting for each pack (including kits) with lots of different categories, you might want to check it out
For me City Living is so worth it❤❤. I’ve had it for over four years and I still use it in almost every single save!!
Thank you for being a good and entertaining distraction ❤ We love you ❤❤
Update: So.. my teacher fell sick and moved the exam to Monday so I have the entire weekend to rehearse for it and seriously, I’m so relieved not having to do it today anymore. Thank you for all your birthday and good luck wishes ❤ you are the best
happy birthday in advance and good luck on ur exam!!

If you buy all the expansion packs it’s over $600 😮😮😮
🏴☠️
Buy everything your looking at over 1 k
Oh my god really? I didn't realize..
Got to wait for those sales! They are discounted sometimes. Bundling also helps. It is expensive though! Not only getting Expansion packs but buying the game packs, stuff packs, and kits too, it all adds up. I always try to get packs when they are on sale
@@danielpahman833 yeah
I hate that all these pictures have different background colours. They are all expansion and should have the same :(
I actually love simsie. I have watched other sim creators and their always like "use my code! Support me!" But simsie said that we could support her OR another creator we like.
You missed how awesome the townies in Snowy escape are! Some of the most attractive sims we’ve gotten
So I have my sims go skiing or snowboarding ALL the time and i love the world bc it's the only one with mountains
my favourite pack in general is probably city living though
3:08 you can also kill vampires with the freeze ray if you freeze them while in the sun
Good to know 😭
Eco lifestyle is one of my favs, I'm shocked people hated it so much.
YESSS same
So I've put off Get Famous for multiple reasons but I now have it and I personally love the acting career.
If I’m not mistaken, piercings first came with Discover University
Same here. I bought HS Years and Paranormal recently and haven’t done ANY gameplay for either but am obsessed with the items (& cas).
@@Raveniki_ I actually think it's so versatile! There are so many sets of so many different styles in this pack!
watching this now because there's a sale again!!
Omg no. But I also consult James turners videos on ranking packs & they’re community voted! They always help me when deciding new one to buy
Get to work is so underrated
This ranking is so different to mine, its so interesting seeing how different people feel about each pack
8:47 I love that we have TWO EXPANSIONPACKS where the main thing are apartments
I love it so much ❤
the one think about get famous is that it added mouth scars, and some ppl use that to add cc veins
I was literally watching this video as you commented , hello there 😊
the first pack i ever wanted was island living because i loved the idea of building on water. looking back at it now, i don't even play with it much...
No toilets is WILD, literally were the builders high?
kinda funny that Get Famous is one of my most used packs. the world is a miss and i don’t use the acting career as much as they intended BUT the game play, specifically the fame system is one that i use in most of my households. I think it helps to shed light on the fact that in modern day world, there are now much more ways to get recognized besides singing and acting. I also love that this pack overlaps the other packs so it’s def a pack that can be utilized in almost any gameplay if you choose to.
I found out that if you have a spellcaster who knows a garden spell they can tend the garden and the plants will not glitch
sooo off topic, but seeing that hector guy in the club menu made me realize that we don't know anything about Stanley. We know he loves a get rich quick scheme and is a weenie, but where did he come from? was he born a weenie or become one? does he have siblings? who are his parents? I NEED STANLEY HUMPHREY LORE.
the clickbate in the screenshot paired with the same 😦expression gets me every time
I have been pondering between Seasons and Cats & Dogs for days now and this video actually helped a lot thanks!
Damn it I might have to get growing together now...I make all my sims have children 😭
We need a battle of the hotdogs, where Stanley and Hector Laurent battle it out to see who's the biggest weenie
For the packs i've got so far I think I agree with you on all but Island Living and I think that really is just the I love the tropical paradise and ocean vibes. Mermaids isn't upto the same level as some of the more developed life states but they're a fair choice if you just want something close to human. I guess there is a few packs that really do come down to what vibes you want to play.
omg so early, I have enough time to watch this whole video before catching your stream in an hour, hooray!
little correction for cottage living… there are no sheep in THAT EP. they come with horse ranch
there are Lama‘s tho
i just bought a ton of packs last week and now youre convincing me i need get together
Get together is amazing! I would get it just for the world tbh 😅 love the cafes too (not sure if cafes are included in other packs)
Honestly, Kayla, this has helped SO much. I have been hemming and hawing going back and forth about what I want and your rating videos, especially how thorough they are as to the WHY, have helped me tremendously! THANK YOU!
rating get to work and then get together was FOUUUL, the world differences 😭💀
This was so fun to watch. I enjoy watching you play so much. My sister and I have played sims since sims came out wayyyy long ago.
I also think it’s so interesting and funny how everybody plays so differently
hi everyone!
hi!!
Hiiiii
Heyy
Hi 😊
hey girl! 🩷
everytime thats a sale on EA i like to watch this to decide what im gonna buy, this time im thinkig about island living because i want a world with beach, i was going to buy for rent but it still a little pricey for me
You could try a less ideal way where you pirate if on a computer
Thank you for making my work day go by a lot faster. An hour flew by and that never happens at my boring job!
It’s funny watching other popular sims channels who absolutely hate all of Kayla’s favourite packs and love her least favourite ones lol
Almost every other UA-camr is like “growing together sucks it doesn’t even add anything” lmao
Though tbh all people I’ve seen have given valid reasons.
