I used to work at the museum where the oldest sandals are located. It was so amazing on my first day there to go up there and see them. At first when I read the placard where the sandals were, I thought it said that they were 950 years old and I was impressed enough with that but then I took a second look and realized that the sign said 9500 years old. After that, I would direct people up to that floor to see them. I miss that job.

Egypt and China seems to have been the pioneers. Animal bristles are pretty ingenious. They have rigid flexibility. Baleen whale bristles were used also into the 20th century. Nice sunglasses.

that reaction to the chair lol.
I know we had some priority when evolving, but I find it hard to believe that it took us around 194000 years to invent the chair.

That ceramic pillow would have been chilly as well as hard but I suppose it would have been lovely & cool in hot weather. Before socks, those fortunate enough to have shoes, stuffed them with hay, apparently it was quite effective. People were still stuffing wooden clogs with hay when my mother was a child in the late thirties & forties. During WW2 clogs & wooden soled shoes saved leather, which was needed for military purposes.

What is with the artificial toe in the click bait picture? Came to find out about it and don't see anything. Disappointing.
    Interesting collection of points.

Me, too! I actually clicked because of that photo, because I didn't think that a prosthetic toe was an ordinary object at all , and I wondered if it would actually be included. Cool! How ingenious of some ancient person! (I do realize prosthetics must become ordinary to those who must use them daily. But they are not to me.)
And then to not include it?!! - -After I put all of that thought toward it?
      Speaking of disappointment!

@@suet.r.4815 All you find are teasers to get you to a web site not worth seeing from any angle or perspective. Look here's what Betty Boop actually looked like .... open it up and she is not even in the line up. All this stuff is garbage. I looked because of the fake toe too. I won't bite for another year or two. Maybe by then media will stop lying to have their way. this is exactly the same thing. Look here.... here is a diamond..... so, you look.... It is a piece of wood that maybe in 50,000 years will be a tree that might get squshed and super heated and harden in to a crystal.... maybe... maybe not.... Oh, see, look,,,,, here comes a cow who is chewing the stick. WE are dumb.

I've been studying the development, movements & skills of Hominids for 30+ years; here's some stuff for the odd facts drawer: The boar hair was cleaned, glued firmly in place, & trimmed; it's not as gross as it sounds + we didn't really need toothbrushes much before we started growing and eating a lot of grains ground into flour (it sticks in every nook & cranny of our teeth). Lace up grass stuffed shoes & knee high lace up boots have been around for at least 20,000 yrs (probably more like 50,000 yrs or more) (all hominids had to have VERY good foot protection, especially the further north we traveled). The oldest known sculpture is 80,000 yrs old - it's a rock carved into a bountiful female figure; there are also fired clay sculptures of people & animals from about 20,000 yrs ago. Toilets w/ running water that are attached to a sewer system were used in Minoan, Aztec and other civilizations dating as far back as 10,000 yrs ago. The oldest known socks were found in what's now north central Russia and are at least 10,000 yrs old; they were made from the leg skin of certain grazing animals because they have a natural bend that fits to our ankles; once the skin was cured, the smaller end could be sewn closed making a great pair of socks or camp shoes. People have been chewing tree sap, spongy centers of certain plants, & other types of gum for more than 9,000 yrs. The oldest known chairs come from 9,000 to 10,000 B.C.E or earlier - in many areas of eastern Europe, they've found countless fired clay "models" of temples with tables & chairs and clay figures that can be seated on those chairs.

No, people in cold climates did not walk around with cold feet all the time. I mean use your brain for crying out loud! if they got frostbite , it could be life or death. they didn't use socks, but either stuffed their shoes with something warm like down feathers or animal fur, or used cloth of some type.

Professor Finkel also attributed board games to being....................bored. However, some were war games created out of war strategy placing opposing figures (gemstones or knucklebones) into positions and these games were invented by pharos & emperors & generals for entertainment, but after some consideration and knowledge of family life and rearing sons & daughters, I think these so-called games may also have been originally invented as teaching tools to 'home instruct' the cave children in strategy, numbers & mathematics, setting one's own rules, house rules, taking the lead, asserting ones self, etc.

maurice Gad: They've found fossilized bones of Cave Lions all over Europe, plus marks on the bodies of animals they preyed on which shows they were alive and hunting all over Europe. There are far too many cave lion bones, and bones of their prey, for all those bones to have been brought to northern Europe by any people. They were much larger than modern lions, and required very large prey to survive. They died out after the end of the last ice age because the giant grazers they depended on died out. The end of the last ice age saw the disappearance of many huge animals: cave bears, mammoths, woolly rhinos, giant wild cattle (aurochs), giant sloths, giant beavers, huge spotted deer and dire wolves - the list goes on and on. This information doesn't come from just one source, it isn't just from white male archaeologists/anthropologists, or only from "melanated people" - these discoveries were made by people with all different colored skins, and from places all over the world, including people who's ancestors lived in northern Europe for many 1,000's of years.

Talking tp their froends and card games were more important. We all ate in 15 minutes then it was time to talk bit time to have a community game plan then return home to get ready for bed then it was time for sleep by 7pm. We were privilaged to get tp go for visits to our close neighbors to read comic books, make popcorn and kool-aid,whole oir parents played cards in the kitchen. We wete country folk that led Hillbilly Our little neighborhood lives and lived next door with soace between our country house yards and would see our friends all the time. These worker class friends worked together on the Railroad and were dad s RR workers who had to live close by to care for the railroad and move products from Chocago Illinois to all over Iowa. We kept pretty much to ourselves. The General Mills plant replaced our old RR ownef rental house we rented from the RR master and the company owned RR houses. We moved to our own home in toen. It was on 2 Acres of land our folks saved for and bought clear out and paid for with sll the work theuy well deserved by savimg to gove us an excellent home lofe. Oh we worked for our own keep as notjong wss ever hanfed to ud. I jad to eatn my oen clothes when I was only 9 yrars old. There was no free rides. If you want nice clothes ypu earn whatever ypu desire snd neefs too. I worled and went to schpol. Thrte was very little free timr for me. We all paid our oen keep snd needs. I wsnted new clothes and no more jand-me-downs after I tutned 16 yeard old. There werr no ftee ridrs anywhere. O esrnef everythimg I had.or I didn t own it unless I earned ot.
