- HERE YOU WILL SEE THE DSNY, NEW YORK CITY DEPARTMENT OF SANITATION USING FRONT LOADERS AND A SNOW MELTING MACHINE TO REMOVE THE 27 INCHES OF SNOW LEFT BY THE BLIZZARD OF 2016, WINTER STORM JONAS, ON THE STREETS OF NEW YORK CITY. THANK YOU TO THE DSNY FOR A JOB WELL DONE! GOD BLESS ALWAYS!
The NYC Department of Sanitation (DSNY) New York’s Strongest always does an unbelievable job. I love it. Nicely Done! Don’t Litter and keep New York City clean. 💯💪👍😊
Wow something i've never seen before, that's crazy. Great video JJ
+Penta YOOO YES INDEED! THANKS SO MUCH MY FRIEND! ;o)
Very interesting. Today the thought occured to me after we just had a snowfall, I wondered how NY city dealt with snow removal especially considering how long it would take to get trucks in to haul snow away. Very cool. I never would have thought of snow melters, but it would be infinitely cheaper doing that than hauling snow away.
YES, IT IS INTERESTING INDEED! GLAD YOU ENJOYED IT! THANKS SO MUCH! ;o)
SO COOL ! GREAT JOB THEY DO ! THANK YOU !😎
THANKS SO MUCH.....
Good 👍 Job I love it 👍❤️👍
THANKS SO MUCH DAVID.....
Wow big operation going on that’s really cool. Would be fun operating one of the dsny loaders, nice and warm in the cab and you can see New York City.
I AGREE JACOB.....THANKS SO MUCH.....
good video as usual.
+lenny burns THANKS SO MUCH MY FRIEND! ;o)
That's very cool! ;)
+Dave Hitt THANKS SO MUCH MY FRIEND! ;o)
IDK But this is so entertaining!!
I AGREE! THANKS SO MUCH MY FRIEND! ;o)
Excellent video. I've never seen anywhere else where they do that.
+Francesc2000 ME EITHER! THANKS! ;o)
I think they do it in Canada, but with bigger snow melting trucks. They should have them in other boroughs.
Dsny the hardest working department
YES INDEED....
Wow that is just amazing! Looks like that machine melts the snow or something.
YES, IT IS AND THANKS SO MUCH MY FRIEND! ;o)
@@THEMAJESTIRIUM1 but where does it go after they melt it all that water would be crazy!!!
Richie Brown the legend
OK.....
RIP Supv Richie Brown..
🇺🇸❤️🚒🚒❤️🇺🇸
THANKS SO MUCH.....
You can send that snow to Alabama, I promise I won't complain
NEXT YEAR! THANKS SO MUCH.....
I;ve done city snow removal up in Mew Haven Ct. always a pain but you make good money because it takes so long to do. We use to dump it in the harbor years ago but can't do that anymore because of epa.
OH WOW! COOL! THANKS SO MUCH DONALD! ;o)
I mean they melt the snow & it goes down drains to the water, but it also cleans oot debri, garbage etc that gets scooped up & in NY maybe a body or 2. LOL In New haven we use to dump it in empty lots & let it melt. I know up in Boston the actually pile it up down on unused piers, actually pushing it into piles with dozers.. It's lind of crazt to see a dozer pushing it up 3 & 4 stories high.
WELL, THIS PROCEDURE SEEN ON MY VIDEO DOES NOT HAPPEN OFTEN AT ALL! THIS WAS A BIG STORM AND THAT IS WHY THEY NEEDED TO DO IT. THANKS AGAIN.
Great work keep
THEMAJESTIRIUM1
THANKS!
out Standing job
THANKS SO MUCH! ;o)
Maybe they're waiting on the snow melter, but it seems like not moving too quickly
OK.....
probably use more fuel to melt snow than all the snowplows put together. far easier to dump it in the river
I GUESS! THANKS AGAIN! ;o)
Except for all the salt.
@Derek Charette Thanks for the info, but you didn't need to be snarky at the end. I had the same question, but I'm on the west coast, so we have NO concept as to what all is involved. I had the same question about why not dumping it in either the Hudson or the East River. Now it makes sense, but just because I didn't know and was about to ask does not make me or anyone else a fool. Give us a break, please? Thank you.
It’s probably powered by steam
Forbidden by federal regulation. That snow has salt, brine solutions, oils, and all sorts of hydrocarbon run off, in addition to garbage and raw feces from pets, etc. This goes into the sewer system, then to the sewage treatment facility, before discharge into the rivers.
A faster loading snow into the melter could be done with a 750 or 850 bobcat loader either on tracks or wheels the bobcat could spin around with a faster return time to the melter
+Kurt bauer COOL! THANKS SO MUCH MY FRIEND FOR THE GREAT INFO...! ;o)
A skidsteer would have trouble getting its load that high.
You can't load those snow melters too fast.
Why doesn't the truck just dump right into the melter? Get a bigger melter and place low enough for the dump.
@@shannonp4037 First, the back of the truck is too low to clear the lip of the Snow Dragon. Second, the bunker of the Snow Dragon is too small to fit the entire truck load. Third, even if the first two items were doable, i.e. the truck is high enough and the bunker is large enough, you don't want to feed the snow in too fast. The bunker holds hot water. When you dump the snow in it melts, and the water overflows into the drain. If you dump the snow too fast the temperature of the water drops and then you just stand around waiting for the water to heat up again.
where do they dump the water from the melted snow? Down storm drains?
+califrogg WELL, IT MELTS AND GOES INTO THE SEWER SYSTEM! THANKS SO MUCH MY FRIEND! ;o)
That's where I dump it, but I don't think DSNY does that.
It goes into the sewers but there's only certain ones that can handle that volume of water
Hey I was there
COOL......
Ole Half Bucket McGee..
OK
What do they use for heat...propane?
IDK.....
Diesel.
NY has a steam system. Maybe they use the steam to melt the snow?
@@theawfulmrbird Diesel.
they just need a dumpsite/ramp to throw it all in the hudson, seems more efficient
WELL, THEY DO THIS AND THE RAMP THING AS WELL! THANKS SO MUCH.....
You can no longer dump snow into the waterways. Along with the snow the snow plows pick up trash, oil, animal waste. The locations where to deploy these machines are carefully chosen well beforehand to place them on top of sanitary sewer manholes. The snowmelt then goes through one of city's 14 sewage treatment plants before it is discharged into the receiving waters.
They should use a big snowblower and throw it in the snow meltet
GOOD IDEA.....THANKS SO MUCH.....
The city Boys in the loaders need a lesson. Back dragging after evert drop is a huge was of time.
OK......
Very true. Not all are good operators. But you ever hit a sewer cap at 10 mph? Terrible
@@Brian-dr2yi I've hit a manhole at 30mph in a 10 yard plow...does that count?
I agree the back blading with a loader constantly makes no sense. Inefficient and makes a mess. It seems like they lack communicating with each other as well they are always in each other’s way. Good thing they are paid by the hour.... Painful to watch.
Honestly one loader can feed more snow than the machine can melt. I'd probably screw around too... no... no I wouldn't. Gets old running a machine just to be running a machine.
Don't know why dumptruck is chained! Wet road!
YES.
That first loader operator sucks lol
OK.
In Japan they clear the streets and the sidewalks too all in one shot
OK
New York City Department of Sanitation is the best, they put all the others municipalities to shame
I AGREE AND THANKS SO MUCH! ;o)
Bahahahaha New York shuts down all the time for a inch of snow.
These guys wouldn't last 10 min clearing in Canada lol
@@Hbosstowing haha you see the chains on the tires 🤣🤣🤣
Why not just dump it straight into the river ?
THEY DO THAT TOO! IT DEPENDS ON MANY FACTORS......
So they actually melt the snow in manhattan
+fox454x WELL, REALLY HARDLY EVER! IT HAS TO BE A BIG STORM LIKE THIS! THANKS SO MUCH MY FRIEND! ;o)
+THEMAJESTIRIUM1 Do you know what brand of loaders those are (Cat, John Deere...)? Thanks!
+Corde1129 Doosan loaders prob smaller than a 300 hard to say.. They gotta come up with a better plan to not be in each other's way half the video the one guy was waiting in the loader lol
ikr
+crimson22s they need to have an excavator loading the snow melter while one or two or those loaders just push snow to it, like on Gold Rush....😂
Gets rid of all the snow by melting it creates massive sheets of ice by the water that was created by the melted snow
OK
They usually put the drain hose down the storm drain
No. The locations where these snow milters are deployed after the snowstorm are carefully chosen well beforehand to place the machine on top of the manhole that leads to a large diameter sanitary sewer (called interceptor.) This way the snowmelt goes through one of City's 14 sewage treatment plants.
These snow dragons suckkkkk. Constantly going down.
OK.....THANKS SO MUCH.....
@@THEMAJESTIRIUM1 No problem
uses around 150-200 gallons of diesel per hour to melt snow
COOL! THANKS SO MUCH MY FRIEND! ;o)
Professor Dave no it doesn't about 90 gallons a 8hr shift
why don't they use steam?
@@theawfulmrbird Because not every part of the city has steam pipes under it. Second, the steam system does not have temporary connections because you don't want to be messing around with high pressure superheated steam in a temporary installation. People have been cooked alive by it.
They should build a snow ramp the dump trucks can drive up and dump directly into the hopper instead of having to use the loaders
OK.
Actually, that will slow things down. First, this machine is not big enough to take in a 15-20 cu. yd. load all at once. Second, That machine is basically a tub of hot water. It is the happiest at about 3-4 cu. of snow per minute. If you dump snow into it too fast the water will get too cold to melt the snow quickly, and then you'll just be standing around waiting for the water to warm up again to dump the next load.
Sorry man, but from someone living in a country with too many snowstorms to name them, it looks more like men playing in the snow with their little trucks and tractors than an well organized operation.
Probably doing the best they can with what they have, but I've seen better.
OK AND THANKS SO MUCH.....
The machine appears to have a clogged drain. If you look carefully, you will see a guy on top of the machine trying to clear what appears to be a clogged drain. The operators are using the pause to clear the snow from in front of the machine.
Wow those operators suck !
WELL.....
Then why don't you come over and show them how it's done. Or better yet, watch the video carefully. The machine appears to have a clogged drain. Toward the end of the video you can see a guy on top of the machine trying to clear the blockage. The operators are just waiting for him to finish, and using the time to clear the snow that accumulated in front of the machine.
Well that's stupid. If they're going to use all the energy it takes to melt it why don't they just heat the streets and not have to haul it all to a melting machine. To bad they don't have like a river or something near by that they can just dump the snow in.
THEY DO HAVE 2 RIVERS NEAR BY BUT I DON'T KNOW HOW THEY COME TO THESE DECISIONS! THANKS! ;o)
You can't dump in rivers because of the EPA.. pollutes the water. We use dump in New Haven harbor but that stopped years ago.. like in the late 70's
