I died at BangBang Ladesh!!! 😂😂😂 And that iconic line :Try as I may, I just can't walk in flats"!!! Probably my most favorite film ever. Watched this about ten times. Love every second.
It's a long time since I saw this opening segment, and realised, just watching it now, that I know it word for word I watched the film so many time in the past. Love this man.
Back in the mid 80's. I was living in Tucson, AZ. I was friendly with the club owner and some hangers on at a club called The Fineline. It was a three level bar that was sooo cool! The downstairs had a pool table and kinda leather bar feel (even though I rarely saw anyone in leather there). The ground floor had a disco and the upstairs had a nice quiet bar, dining area and small theater area. I got to work the lights and watch this play being performed! I ALWAYS remembered the monologue. It was done brilliantly (wish I could remember the guy who played Arnold...). And I always remembered the way to say "I love you" and "but not enough" in sign language!!
I was a fairly rough homophobe throughout high school and much of college. I met some very kind people who happened to be a lesbian couple near the time of graduation when I was living in a trailer; they helped me out a number of times when I really needed it and I reciprocated when I could. That changed me quite a bit; it's hard to hate people when you see them as human beings. This movie came out near the end of the '80s, but I didn't get a chance to see it until '91 or so. This movie completely changed my attitudes and in a big way; Harvey Feirstein was magnificent here.
I bought the script for the play. It's interesting to compare the two. They cut out a lot in the movie. Also, Arnold was having affairs when he was with Alan. That wasn't the case in the movie, if I remember correctly.
One of the greatest monologues ever written.
This movie has been in my top 10 for over 30 years.
I seen this movie back in 1989, and I loved it........Harvey Fierstein was absolutely amazing.
A true classic❤❤❤❤

Harvey Fierstein is a national treasure, and Anne Bancroft was robbed of an Oscar for her performance.
Actually Estelle Getty was the one robbed of an Oscar. Anne stole her part.
@@billstrzempek7045 what?! Estelle would have been perfect
Harvey Fierstein was a great actor i love him , love the Movie torch song Trilogy
i would have given him an Oscar just for that opening segment alone !!

I was so p'd off when they gave Harvey's Oscar to Dustin Hoffman for Rain Man. Torch Song Trilogy was a masterpiece.

The cemetery scene with Anne Bancroft and Harvey Firestien brings me to tears . So powerful. Wish I could find this movie somewhere.
That cab line is funny as hell
The smithing of words . I have my mouth open breathing shallow breaths . Every syllable brings me into another world .
So brilliant and so important for so many at that time. The possibility for a happy ending.
love this film. it makes me smile every time :)
And they gave him two Tonys for this incredible performance.
Thank you ever so much for posting this awesome prologue❤
We know you care. Someone will love you Arnold.
One of my favorite movies…
