    You can learn things from anyone, anywhere and anytime! ...If you are willing to let it all go and be completely ridiculous!! That's what Jack Black does often and this video took things to a whole other level. And at the same time, his vocal performance offers some incredible nuances and interesting things to experiment with if you're wanting to work on distortion and pulling great tone out of your voice!

      Did they use effects? His vocal range reaches those low notes easily, heard him do it. Of course, in the studio there's always a bit of tricking. John Spiker who produced the song, is also the producer for the Tenacious D albums and probably knows Jack's voice very good.

    I've always loved Jack's care free approach to his singing. To be honest I used to think he was annoying lol, but I didn't understand him as a person. Now that I've grown up with him I have a better understanding, he's just a big kid who doesn't care what anyone thinks and that's what makes him a great vocalist and person.

    I love the fact that they gave Jack Black specifically a song within the movie because in the context of the film it not only lends itself to further show us the passion that Bowser has for Princess Peach, but it gives Jack a chance to have even more fun being Bowser and considering Jack's past with music and the amount of experience he has that not only lends itself to the quality that this song has and is a testament to how skilled he is, but it also gives people who never listened to his music beforehand a look into how good he is at singing and gives people a chance to broaden their horizons

    It’s like you can hear and feel Bowser’s conflicting emotions, soft side, rough around the edges, and at the end totally possessed by his love for Peach. I mean Jack nailed it! It’s simply iconic. You can hear the rock n roll and the just pure singing from his soul how much he loves her. I mean we never really seen this side of a villian before it’s amazing how Jack inspired this character to life.

    • @johnlucas1543
      @johnlucas1543 Рік тому +4

      +Saffeyah Perfect comment. Jack Black is CHANNELING Bowser while keeping Jack Black within Bowser at once.
      King Koopa is a monster, a literal turtle dragon beast. Reptilian through & through.
      Yet he loves this rare human who lives among mushroom people like no other.
      Bowser only kidnaps Princess Peach, he never kills her. He wants her to be his wife & eternal love.
      But the beauty will not have the beast & that makes Bowser crazy. So close yet so far & he wants her so bad it hurts.
      He becomes obsessed & the animal, the beast peeks through the tender side creating all of this complexity.
      Jack Black captured every bit of that reality & put it into his performance.
      You know Bowser Koopa's a monster but you STILL feel bad for him listening to him pour his heart out for Peach.
      It's all in how Jack Black delivered his vocals. I KNEW he was perfectly cast from day one.

    Jack Black is an insanely good singer often underestimated because of his tendency to play a lot with his voice so it sounds overdramatic and childish so people don't take him seriously.
    But anyone with some knowledge about the technical aspects of singing can hear how good he really is.
    I loved how you touched on the ability to modulate tones and getting good at making 1 tone in several different ways.
    This is a concept that is so true not only in singing but for instruments and music in general.
    These dynamic tools are essential to be a good storyteller, which is one of the most important aspects of being a great singer, technique aside.

      As a kid I loved him and loved his voice and thought he was one of the coolest actors ever. But I also sometimes wished that he sung things that weren’t so humorous every now and then. Now though I although I would eat it up if he put out a serious rock album I wouldn’t want him to ever stop being that iconic comedy singer/ actor that he’s always been. He just doesn’t give a shit what people thinks he should be doing and that’s pretty much made him the legend he is today. I was surprised to see him act alongside Dwayne Johnson in Jumanji but it ended up being so perfect, and I wouldn’t have wanted that movie to play out any other way. I haven’t even seen this movie and as soon as I saw this I knew I had to get to theaters as soon as I can. I might have to call in sick to work if it comes down to it😂

    • @Fourger14
      @Fourger14 Рік тому +3

      I mean, you can hear how deep he gets on stage at conventions doing the voice. Vocal after effects might have been used, but it doesn't sound like they were to me. As someone who does a deep voice and then modifies it to make it sound more like an ancient dragon, this sounds like the raw to me.

    • @lostecho4394
      @lostecho4394 Рік тому +4

      @@Fourger14 Nah, there are some very clear signs of some formant shifting on the vocals. There is nothing wrong with using effects to get the sound you want. It's like how John Lennon pitched up his voice on Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds to sound smaller. Sometimes the best way to get the tone you want, especially for a character like bowser, is to use some effects. It's not that he can't reach those notes, just that the only way to really sound like something as big as bowser is to change the throat length in some way, whether using formant shifting, pitch shifting, or whatever.

    I'm so glad you did this video Chris!! I was literally just thinking about suggesting Jack Black as a singer to analyze the other day. I feel like his vocal talent can easily be over looked (especially in Master Exploder), since he is freaking JACK BLACK after all. He's truly one of the most underrated singers!

    I like how this guys is like “I’ve never heard this song I don’t know what to expect!” But then you can see him mouthing along to the song 😂

      To be fair it designed to be a very simple and repetitive song. That's why it's so catchy in the first place

    Yeah there are a couple other villains they could use in Sequels, Wart from smb2, Wario and Waluigi, King Boo, Sir Grodus and Lord Crump, Shadow Queen, Count Bleck, Dimentio, Tatanga
    Also since the Mario World and Donkey Kong are the same world they could also throw in Donkey Kong villains like King K. Rool

    I wanna be a voice actor, and I've started meeting other voice actors and it's been great for learning. I'm glad to have found your channel because I feel like signing can help in learning my voice along with the acting.

    Oh nice, I didn't hear this one yet. Jack Black is an underrated vocalist, I really love his Tenacious D vocals, the more hard rock style and metal, also some good stuff in the school of rock movie obviously.

    I remember you teaching before this kind of stuff of expermenting with your voice with weird sound and noises to get to the distortion point, and now here we are listening a world class song, using a good amount of those "dumb" exercises you showed us before. thanks

    I bet that no choreography was needed. I imagine he was just leaping around like an everyday thing he does. That’s two Jack Black surprises in two days for me. The other was in The MandalorIan. Would be awesome if you did Master Exploder too.

    Jack's vocal style in this reminds me a lot of Audrey2's singing from Little Shop Of Horrors, and that's a very good thing.

    I’ll have to listen to your corse because I wanna get into singing and making music myself
    I can sing but my singing is a little underdeveloped because in elementary school when we did quire I had massive stage fright so I hope to overcome that and start singing without a care in the world
