I just rewatched the Time of the Doctor. Right at the end before Clara goes into the TARDIS, the phone is off the hook, and she hangs it back up. The Doctor must have called her before regenerating and this is Clara receiving that call!
To all the people complaining about how the Twelfth Doctor isn't 'sexy' or that his outfit is too 'plain'... The Ninth Doctor wasn't 'sexy' and he wore a normal jumper, black jeans, and an old, tattered leather jacket. He's still my favourite by far. It doesn't matter how pretty the actor is or how quirky his costume is, it's about how he goes about saving worlds in his TARDIS with a companion or two. Besides, the Sixth Doctor's outfit had enough weirdness to carry us over for another 50 years...
"but first things first, chips. I always love chips." "chips sounds good... you're buying!" "I don't have money." how can something so simple and sweet make me this emotional?
aperson22222 Very true, but a premise can draw-in or discourage viewers if they don't know the tone. For example, I haven't watched Breaking Bad because of a very big difference in tone and premise. "Terminally-ill chemistry teacher can't afford his medical bills and so turns to making meth" sounds like a dark comedy to me but from what I understand the show isn't supposed to be funny. But I do agree that Doctor Who needs to get serious again. I know it's not a popular opinion but my favourite Doctor so far has been Ecclestone and I think that Capaldi may become my second favourite (followed by Smith in 3rd and Tennant in 4th) or maybe even better than Ecclestone.
kingkong381 I didn't watch Breaking Bad either, but the premise always sounded very depressing and bleak to me. A heretofore solid citizen finds he has nowhere to turn in his time of need and is forced by desperation to take a series of increasingly despicable actions. That's what I think of, and I'm given to understand that's more or less correct, though I still have no interest in watching. Eccleston is my favorite too; for a time Smith had eclipsed him, but the nosedive in quality that the show took from "The Bells of St John" through "The Time of the Doctor" dropped him down a peg. Not everyone likes the Ninth Doctor but I don't think that those of us who do are in an overwhelmingly small minority or anything. And even those who don't like Eccleston tended to praise the choice of Capaldi for the same reasons the rest of us did: a more mature, more intense, darker Doctor who's still got an impeccable sense of comedic timing. Traits associated with Eccleston. But alas, since I first posted my original comment, quite a lot of information has come to light about S8, and the more I see the less I like our chances of recapturing that desperately needed tone.
Those monitor shots of Capaldi stepping out the Tardis are an incredible little exclusive! Our first glimpse of Series 8! Ha! In your face Comic-Con :D
Though Clara already knows about regeneration, it would still be difficult. Can you imagine if someone you loved changed into a new person, had an entirely different face and there was nothing you could recognize about them at all? She's bound to have doubts. It's a normal reaction. He is a new person but the same man, deep down. It just comes out in even in the smallest moments, and what his actions are when facing down an enemy..
Are we not going to talk about how, just like Rose and Nine's 'First Date', they're going out for chips and she's making him buy too?! WHOUFFLE LIVES ON!
Thank you i look for this comment, i thing is awsome, and tho is being 400 years since Rose i would love to see a reference of her :D long live The Doctor,
omg it looks so perfect. i watched this several times, that awkward hugging got me laughing every time. Peter and Jenna are awesome together, series 8 is in safe hands. fantastic vid dude thanks so much! :D
Oh God, this is just making me more impatient for Series 8 now! Looks like Capaldi is having difficulty convincing Clara that he is still the same man she knew. You can just see in those monitor shots that Capaldi can convey so much in that face of his. You can just tell that he is going through an internal struggle; those eyes have so much to say. He's going to be great!
The way Peter walks around.. It makes me think that he's just a fan who is nervous and unsure if he can take on the role of his hero. Must be nerve racking. I think he'll overcome this and be a favorite. :D
Thank you! I'm getting teary eyed, this was beautiful. I get to see those shoes, that I love, in action xD no but seriously, thank you! Chips is getting me emotional! What is my life!?
I've watched this video like six times already! It's so exiting, even though I can't hear what they say and the captions don't work. I can't wait! This is just so weird! New Doctor, new costume and a new era!
I think now that the Doctor is older the relationship between Clara and him has changed from a romantic relationship to a father-and-daughter relationship... That's what it was like for the older Doctors and their younger female companions...
I like it when they say spoilers, and you can't actually hear what they're saying, so that way you only see what's going on and not hear, make's it more intense or special :)
So excited for season 8 although i think matt smith did an amazing job as the doctor im excited to see the new one. Plus clara!!! I love how little things that happend in season 234 and so on suddenly click even in the 7th season Its all intertwined.
I'd love to work in a TV series one day. Never gonna happen, but one can dream. I love seeing videos like this, where you can see all the equipment and how it's placed. ^^
gaahh I can't wait... analyzing this scene though, it's very reminiscent of Rose and The Doctor #9 (and #10....) "Do you want to go get some chips?" "You're buying" "I don't have any money"
I would be sick of that, but I don't see that happening, their personalities are way different, and the "relationship" stuff with Clara is benign compared to Rose
***** amen to that, and during the time of the doctor, the staircase she ran down was the /exact same staircase/ that rose ran down when the doctor showed up at her house looking for a plastic arm
A Bit of trivia: Peter Capaldi got his start in show business playing in a rock and roll band in which Craig Ferguson was the drummer. A cameo by Craig would be great.
I just thought of this, before Clara comes out of the TARDIS to answer her phone. The 12th Doctor probably says: It's probably your boyfriend." Clara: I don't have a boyfriend. Me: The feels right now. Anyway feels aside. Here's the rest of the transcript (won't be 100% correct. For the parts that don't so up on the captions, I'm just going by my imagination.) because I'm a generous person. Clara: Hello? (silence) Hello, who is this? 11: It's me. I'm calling you from Trenzalore. Clara: I don't understand. 11: I'm the Doctor. I'm scared..He's a comin ....now. He will be scared but you need to look after him. He will need you. (phone call ends. Clara starts to cry.) 12: I suppose, is that the Doctor? Well? Clara: What?" 12: ? Clara: It was him. 12: And I'm him. You want me to change is that it? I'm not on the phone. I'm standing right in front of you. " Clara: It is you. (cue awkward hug) 12: I'm so sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. Clara: Where are we? 12:Glasgow, I think. Clara: Well that's right, you're Scottish. 12: We can get some...we can go for...chips. Go for chips (or Fish and chips.?) Clara: You're buying. 12: I...I don't have any money. (When she walks round the TARDIS is sounds like she says bloody brilliant?) Well that's it. And I can tell you what I can't bloody wait for. 6/7 months for this.
It's good to know they are making it. It's already been too bloody long since the end of series 7, and the special wasn't quite enough to fill the gap. Still think it's taking too long, but at least they haven't forgotten. Lol I've seen a few things with Capaldi in them, and considering his variety I think he's capable of pulling this off. I'm wondering if he'll ever be made to play the valeyard aswell. He's a good "bad guy" actor aswell.
oh gosh they were filming right next to a Manpower building! like, most of my family has worked for that company haha. that's mildly exciting, this means that JLC and capaldi have seen the same name and logo that i've been looking at my whole life :p awesome!
I'm guessing this is the end of the first episode of the season where the Doctor's regeneration has finally settled and he's telling his companion that even though he's a different man now, he's still the man she was traveling with.
wait, what if Capaldi's doctor is the Valeyard? from the wiki: {The Valeyard was, according to the Master, "an amalgamation of the darker side of the Doctor's nature", taken from somewhere between his "twelfth and final incarnations". (TV: The Ultimate Foe)} we know this will be one of the darkest series yet, according to the producers. could it be referring to the Doctor going truly against his beliefs? (not War Doctor style, that was out of envisioned necessity, i'm talking about as a punitive atrocity or an act of horrifying vengeance even when there is another way)
His twelfth incarnation was truly the Meta-Crisis Doctor. His final is actually the Eleventh, at least originally it was, Thanks to the war doctor and the meta-crisis aborted regeneration. I'd assume myself that it was simply retconned. He simply got more regenerations outside the original cycle, allowing him to survive.
frangleman he has a grand total of 25 incarnations to use. his final regeneration will (as far as we know) be the 25th. later than the twelfth and earlier than the final. also isn't "between twelfth and final" an implication that he would somehow keep going past his 13th regen? he can't be doctor 12.5
maksuree Your right that he can have a total of 25 incarnations however his final incarnation will actually be the 23rd Doctor. here's why Doctors 1-8 came from Classic Who, that much should not be in question. In the Mini Episode "Night of the Doctor," Paul McGann finally get his regeneration scene, in to John Hurts War Doctor. At the end of the 50th Anniversary episode, "Day of the Doctor," the War Doctor regenerates into the 9th doctor. 9 regenerates into 10, in "The Parting of Ways." 10 healed himself in, "The Stolen Earth," using up a regeneration in the process without changing his face. 10 regenerated into 11 in "The End of Time Part 2." That accounts for all 12 of his original regenerations. In "The Time of the Doctor," The Time Lords grant the doctor a new regeneration cycle (12 more regenerations) and he immediately burns one of them to regenerate into Peter Capaldi's 12th Doctor, so as of right now the doctor has 11 regenerations left, and the now last incarnation of him will be the 23rd Doctor, or 24th Incarnations since technically 10 used and extra regeneration. Also, about the Valeyard the quote says :12th and final incarnations." So the could have been created (and not seen on screen) as early as 10 regenerating in 11, or as late as 22 regenerating into 23.
i don't think we'll ever get a direct valeyard reference, but there have been nods to the darker side of the doctor (the war doctor, the dream maker, and ten near the end of his run) but i doubt and hope we won't ever see the valeyard as a full character
When you are watching a TV show you believe that the situation at hand is really happening. (within the context of that universe) but when you see a scene shot in reality you see how unnatural and staged the movements and body language of the actors are. It's weird and interesting.
It would explain why at the end of "The Time of the Doctor" the handset of the Tardis phone was hanging out of the booth when Clara came to place it back. No.11 made one last phone call to future Clara before going inside and regenerating.
He looks like old style magician. No gimmicks. I hope this Doctor doesn't kill the franchise. What about the 50th anniversary mentioning bringing back some old favorites? From Doctor #4 as the museum curator talking to Doctor #12/13 Matt Smith.
I'm sure he's a great actor, I guess it will take a while to get use to this doctor. The past 3 I had no problem getting use to. Right away they just clicked. Capaldis doctor just seemed to cunfused. The cosutme is still boring, I think. No gimick. A black suite.
TRON8882 I think that's supposed to be the point. This Doctor is born from a new regeneration cycle. Like 11th said, he's terrified. Literally walking on new territory. Either way it's just my speculation so take it with a grain of salt.
It's just that the other doctors just clicked right away. This doctor is starting to grow on me. Not enough wackyness like smith. And more serious like # 9 with the leather jacket.
I just rewatched the Time of the Doctor. Right at the end before Clara goes into the TARDIS, the phone is off the hook, and she hangs it back up. The Doctor must have called her before regenerating and this is Clara receiving that call!
"You're buying!"
"I don't have any money!"
Homage to Nine and Rose.
Watching this, the only thing I could think was "Wow, Capaldi's shoes are ENORMOUS."
Haha, same here!
That's Doc Martens for ya
Capaldi looks majestic in that coat.
Am I the only person who audibly gasped when his coat flew open?
If that coat is anything to go by, I think this will be a great series.
TheHamsterlover1234 XD Cheers, made my day.
twelve's reaction to clara's hug made me smile from ear to ear :)
Oh, this is just pure bliss right now. I can't even handle it, I am freaking out
"I'm standing right in front of you." broke my heart :( But Peter looks like he's going to be amazing! So excited!
Oh my gawd! Squealz! I've been waiting to see him in action. Look at Twelthy go. Haha. Classic reaction from The Doctor when Clara hugs him.
Oh man, this is gonna be awesome to watch. I wanna watch this episode now! lol
Older Time Lord gentleman being hugged on by beautiful young lady. I bet that turns the Doctor's wheels a bit. ;) It have to. He's a bloke. LOL
"but first things first, chips. I always love chips."
"chips sounds good... you're buying!"
"I don't have money."
how can something so simple and sweet make me this emotional?
THEY ARE AS CUTE AS WHOUFFLE!
Clara was able to get over the regeneration difference. Probably cuz she jumped into his timeline.
AND THEY ARE SO CUTE!
I need this show to get serious again. It's been so frivolous lately.
I couldn't agree more
...It's about an alien in a time-traveling phone box....
jjj7790
There's a difference between premise and tone.
aperson22222

I'm guessing the 12th Doctor isn't going to be the little ball of sunshine we've had with Matt Smith. He doesn't seem to like hugs all too much.
aww his reaction at being hugged. LOL i miss Matt but I'm so looking forward to this!
haha I was there too! Was nice of him to come over in the rain to sign things and take pictures, got to talk to him for a bit :D
Lucky you!
Though Clara already knows about regeneration, it would still be difficult. Can you imagine if someone you loved changed into a new person, had an entirely different face and there was nothing you could recognize about them at all? She's bound to have doubts. It's a normal reaction.

Oh my god he has no clue what to do with a hug. Adorable.
I love that hug of Clara's, and Twelve's awkward reaction to it.
AMAZING! I can't wait to see Peter and Jenna's first episode together!
Thank SO MUCH for sharing this.
"Where are we?"
"Glasgow, I think"
"Well, that's right. You're Scottish"
Looks like the "New First Doctor" knows the real meaning of having a fashion sense. Superb coat!
after reading the captions at 3:48, doesn't anyone feel a deja vu from 9th Doctor episode The End of the World!
I'm pretty sure that was a deliberate reference.
Holy crap Capaldi has really long fingers!
peter's style is like a grumpy, old doctor. and it's adorable! :))
He acted so awkard when Clara hugged him. Just like 11 when he got kissed!
I'm going to miss Matt, but I'm also really excited for Peter Capaldi :)
I just notice the wedding ring in his hand!
The way Peter walks around.. It makes me think that he's just a fan who is nervous and unsure if he can take on the role of his hero. Must be nerve racking. I think he'll overcome this and be a favorite. :D
"I'm standing right here" Oh gosh I have a feeling this is going to be an emotional roller coaster.
So now the Tardis phone hanging off the hook in Time of the Doctor makes sense....
YES!! That's exactly what I was thinking when I saw this!
He makes the most intense facial expressions.Capaldi will be such a powerful performance.
3:48 - 3:59
I swear I heard these words
'Chips, Coffee and Chips' 'You're Buying' 'Haven't got any money' awww....reminds me of series 1 ep 2 :)
Captions now work!
***** I used too yes!
***** You have to change it from English to English - Dialogue
Yeah, Tiffany, you aren't seeing things. He refused to take off his real life wedding ring for the filming.
Thank you! I'm getting teary eyed, this was beautiful. I get to see those shoes, that I love, in action xD no but seriously, thank you! Chips is getting me emotional! What is my life!?
Peter is going to make such a great Doctor
Mentioning chris and david already make me happy 2 of my all time doctors
It looks like Capaldi is gonna be a great Doctor!
In the last bit, he looks so perfect. I think Peter will be an amazing Doctor. I can't wait for Twelve.
I've watched this video like six times already! It's so exiting, even though I can't hear what they say and the captions don't work. I can't wait! This is just so weird! New Doctor, new costume and a new era!
i'm feeling things noooo
i'm so excited
i might die from excitement
i love Peter already and that hug was sooo cute
That hug. Yep...still the Doctor.
I just watched this scene after watching Season 8 Episode 1! The ep was so good! This gives this scene much clarity. :-)
I have a feeling that this scene will be very emotional and moving.
I think now that the Doctor is older the relationship between Clara and him has changed from a romantic relationship to a father-and-daughter relationship... That's what it was like for the older Doctors and their younger female companions...
I like it when they say spoilers, and you can't actually hear what they're saying, so that way you only see what's going on and not hear, make's it more intense or special :)
so hyped. capaldi looks so baller with his costume :D
So excited for season 8 although i think matt smith did an amazing job as the doctor im excited to see the new one. Plus clara!!! I love how little things that happend in season 234 and so on suddenly click even in the 7th season Its all intertwined.
He's using his Scottish accent!!! AWESOME!!!!!
I was hoping Malcolm Tucker would go off in a rant xD
Such spoilers ... the doctor and Clara hugged -___-
You have ruined the episode for me -_-
Jkjk thanks for uploading :)
Clare you're buying! Doctor- I don't have any money . Hahaha
Okay, Capaldi is going to be awesome.
Oh, and that view through the monitor...oh. Like. I like this a whole lot. Super! Can't wait to see Series 8 when it comes out!
"It is you. It really is"
MUST. HAVE. EPISODES. NOW.
They came into spec savers which is in the video and used it to practise their lines. Best day ever.
I'd love to work in a TV series one day. Never gonna happen, but one can dream.
I love seeing videos like this, where you can see all the equipment and how it's placed. ^^
Is it me or has the tardis changed color since i last watched in 2009
gaahh I can't wait...
analyzing this scene though, it's very reminiscent of Rose and The Doctor #9 (and #10....) "Do you want to go get some chips?" "You're buying" "I don't have any money"
I was waiting for Clara to say, "What kind of cheap date are you?" like Rose said to 9 :D
she still might, lines not heard here, or recorded in another shot
you'll probably disagree w/ me but I am so sick of Moffat making Clara Rose #2.
Clara et Peter Calpadi are beautiful.
In a stunning turn of events, it's raining in England...
This looks like it has the promise to be an incredibly touching scene.
It seems that the Doctor always takes his companions for chips!
Wow just wow nice to see the new doctor in action
A Bit of trivia: Peter Capaldi got his start in show business playing in a rock and roll band in which Craig Ferguson was the drummer. A cameo by Craig would be great.
Oh my god he's just so adorably awkward. I was sold at chips.
Is it weird that I had ship both the new Doctor and Clara Oswald out in my mind?
Yes! He's sticking with the hand gestures!
That was absolutely brilliant Peter. Thanks for recording and posting this, sincerely. Keep up the good work, mate! :)
I just thought of this, before Clara comes out of the TARDIS to answer her phone. The 12th Doctor probably says: It's probably your boyfriend."
Clara: I don't have a boyfriend.
Clara starts to cry.)
12: I suppose, is that the Doctor? Well?
Clara: What?"
12: ?
Clara: It was him.
12: And I'm him. You want me to change is that it? I'm not on the phone. I'm standing right in front of you. "
Clara: It is you. (cue awkward hug)
12: I'm so sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry.
Clara: Where are we?
12:Glasgow, I think.
Clara: Well that's right, you're Scottish.
12: We can get some...we can go for...chips. Go for chips (or Fish and chips.?)
Clara: You're buying.
12: I...I don't have any money.
(When she walks round the TARDIS is sounds like she says bloody brilliant?)
Well that's it. And I can tell you what I can't bloody wait for. 6/7 months for this.
I wish i had a tardis right now so i can fast foward time to august and see the first episode!!!!!
It is confirmed for August?
either August or September said Moffet
I wasn't sure about his outfit when I saw the pictures but seeing him inaction in it. . . I love it :D
It's good to know they are making it. It's already been too bloody long since the end of series 7, and the special wasn't quite enough to fill the gap. Still think it's taking too long, but at least they haven't forgotten. Lol
I've seen a few things with Capaldi in them, and considering his variety I think he's capable of pulling this off.
I'm wondering if he'll ever be made to play the valeyard aswell. He's a good "bad guy" actor aswell.

Awww that hug!
he is gonna be an amazing doctor, I am excited !!!
Hover hands alert
"I have no idea what to do with my hands!"
thanks for this vid gives us an insight of peters performance
Oh yes this is wonderful!!!! I kind of got reminded of Flesh Doctor and Meta-Crisis Doctor and their rejection cause of change....
wait, what if Capaldi's doctor is the Valeyard?

Yeah sorry about that. UA-cam doesnt seem to like them. I'll try again
oh my crying thank you for this
Loving the shot you got at 4:10 - Now we have a rough idea what the scene would look like on TV :P
When you are watching a TV show you believe that the situation at hand is really happening. (within the context of that universe) but when you see a scene shot in reality you see how unnatural and staged the movements and body language of the actors are. It's weird and interesting.
This looks like it's going to be amazing and peter just fits perfectly
i think this is scene is where Clara gets a phone call from the Mat Smith Dr Who if what you read in the uk papers is correct.
Read the description, it says that
Cryer24597 No you weren't and you didn't. Prop phones have no audio.
It would explain why at the end of "The Time of the Doctor" the handset of the Tardis phone was hanging out of the booth when Clara came to place it back. No.11 made one last phone call to future Clara before going inside and regenerating.
I WAS RIGHT!, I mean, not to sound self-absorbed but, ya know.....
I think she heard 11 giving her a pre-recorded goodbye message on the phone.
He's got a time machine He could have called her Before he regenerated to explain the change he has gone under and how best to help him.
That's basically what I was saying. BTW it has been said Matt Smith is the one on the phone.
Oh, she just hugged him! I'm going to cry.
OMG i could not be more excited for the new series!!
Love this doctors outfit.
Nifty, and thanks for posting. But I keep thinking the extras they hired to walk by seem to be dressed for colder weather than do Capaldi and Coleman.
He looks like old style magician. No gimmicks. I hope this Doctor doesn't kill the franchise. What about the 50th anniversary mentioning bringing back some old favorites? From Doctor #4 as the museum curator talking to Doctor #12/13 Matt Smith.
Why would he kill it? Capaldi is a great actor. Brilliant casting.
Okay, this new Doctor.... is going to be awesome!
Looking at this u wouldn’t know of the 11th Doctor, such an amazing scene.
So fun looking back though glad I didn’t see this.
