Word. Anytime a friend goes to Nashville I recommend checking out Third Man Records if you're a fan of music. You don't even have to be a White Stripes or Jack White fan, it's just such an awesome place. It is tiny though, so best to go when they're not too busy.
+foljs that would be logical but I still see Jack and Meg as super brits, even though I know they are American. They just seem so british to me even though they're not
I saw him this past year and it was possibly the best show I have ever seen. He gave so much of himself to the audience, completely unrelenting. And the lack of phones was a large part of why it was so great. It was the first concert in my adult life where everyone there was completely present and experiencing a moment with no distractions.
I went to a Hoodie Allen concert recently (my first concert) and my girlfriend recorded some and I had no problem with it. She recorded 2 songs, her favorite and my favorite. She didn't post a single video on Facebook or Instagram or Vine and have only watched it ourselves. Amazing concert and there's nothing wrong with sort of re-living that feeling or bringing back memories by watching the video. And not once did she feel "out of the moment".
You know, there's a sort of a difference between recording one or two particular songs and recording the whole fucking show. I was at the Glitch Mob's event in Prague this spring and my friend was recording the whole show standing still, while i was jumping around and basically just enjoying it. You know what I mean? So you and your girlfriend recording your favorite songs is completely fine with not just me, but i think it doesn't hurt the artist that much too.
I was slightly annoyed at the concept at first when I saw jack, but by the time the show started, i was just annoyed that I couldn’t check the time lol. It‘s truly something that should be experienced and I loved every second of the show. We waited 2 hours after the show to get a ukulele signed by jack. We found out he doesn’t sign instruments before he came out, so we decided to gift it to him. He was shocked to be gifted an instrument, but had the biggest look of joy on his face. Truly a night to remember
On the subject of vinyl....as a 38 year old who grew up at the apex of the CD era....it's kinda crazy to me how only recently vinyl releases OUTSOLD CD releases for the first time in like 40 years... I work at a used bookstore(we also sell music) and it's super cool and weird how 90% of our vinyl purchases are from kids like 25 and younger. They're super into it. It's awesome. I think it's a collective counter-reaction to the digital "cloudification" of _everything._ People want tangibility and unique experience....because that's rare now, hence valuable. Personally, I'd love to get into vinyl....but alas I simply don't have the funds for it (yet). It's pretty damn expensive. Especially newer vinyl releases. The artwork and whatnot is super cool....but quite pricey.
@@avedic I like that there are plenty of kids who realize that the internet is a goldmine for music. Plenty of kids go looking for something “different” instead of just being spoon fed Taylor Swift of whatever bland nonsense is new this week. I put different in quotes because they are finding classic rock and blues and old hip hop from 20,30,40 years ago... stuff like Pink Floyd, Elvis, Dolly Parton, The Beatles, The Grateful Dead, and other interesting stuff. It’s a good thing for the future of music.
@@avedic I'm one of those early 20s vinyl collectors and yes it totally is about having a tangible experience with the music. You could still get into collecting though!! I like to go to local antique markets and a lot of vendor booths there have records for sometimes as little as a dollar or two. Sometimes ill even pick a record because the name or the artwork appeals to me so i want to listen to it. The vinyl community is super dope. I love being a part of this resurgence of vinyl
Wow, you can see the genuine happiness on his face at 2:54, that made me happy, that's what music can do to people, and not just music but anything that someone creates by themselves or at least comes up with the idea by themselves
Jesus Christ, Jack White is the kind of handsome that scares your heart a little. Makes it jump and skip a beat as if in confirmation that you're witnessing and in the presence of a body that is filled with truth, passion, saddness, and a little bit of anger thrown in to let you know that he is indeed alive.
you can film and enjoy the show at the same time. people are paying the tickets. elt them they do whatever they want, including talk, turn their back at the stage. rock is freedom, not this shit.
you're one of those people, aren't ya? Why do you go to shows? To talk? To post your fucking video to facebook to show your "friends" you went to a concert of a band you DO NOT respect?
The fact that you pay doesn't mean you can do whatever the fuck you want; following your logic, let's also steal all the instruments and kick the shit out of the band; people like you ruin the experience for the others, you know, the ones that do not have this bullshit mindset.
The people behind you will get distracted by you holding your phone up over the crowd to record the show. He said that he will get the entire show recorded and made available to the public, and it will most definitely be done by professionals, at better angles and with better recording gear. You have no reason to sit there and record it with your shitty phone. And why would you spend money to go to a concert and talk? You go there to listen to the music and watch the artist live, not chat with your mate about last nights football game.

No offense, but you never heard of Jack White?? The White Stripes? Seven Nation Army? One of the recent Bond songs with Alicia Keys? No? But I agree, he really cares (you might watch the film " I might get loud" if his thoughts on music were interesting for you). There's a great "rockumentary" called *"It might get loud."* I think you'll enjoy it. It has Jimmy Page, Jack White, and "The Edge" from U2. The first two really make the third look skilless and soulless.

It's not just at concerts, it's parents too. They feel they need to film every step, every word, every movement their child does. When we're out at a theme park, I'll get just a few photos in because I want to enjoy my kids' moments with my own eyes.
well sometimes it's nice to have some anchor back to a certain year. there will come a time when these memories start fading and you'll be happy you have a few pictures to remind you of those moments.
How dare anyone tell me what MY experience is. I never leave the house without my camera. I hear my fav music while shooting a concert and have a better memory and experience for it. Fans will clap for anything anyway. Pictures tell stories and a concert is a great story to share.
Honestly, I'm the person that will film my favorite songs, and take pictures here and there to commemorate the event.. but if I saw Jack White, I don't think I would record it. I find this man highly talented and I wouldn't want to take my eyes away from the stage.
what is it about Jack White that gets the general public massive guitar hero boners? As a guitarist myself for 35 years , all I hear in his music is standard blues stuff. In fact a lot of the stuff he does is what we did in the late 80s garage band stuff , but somehow Jack turned it into a career. Props to him , maybe I am truly the fool. He's good at what he does , but "revolutionary guitar hero"? meh
All that guitar players play is standard blues (taking credit for something they didn't invented)...he's just smart, like Beck, or Clapton or Page. I'm sure everyone said the exact same thing you said about them as well...
Jack's stuff may look simple on paper. But I've never heard anyone play like Jack. There's something about the way he plays that is very unique. The same goes for the way he sings.
And yet he is critically acclaimed and not bashing other musicians on UA-cam. He may not be one of the best guitarist, but being an artist is much more than that. Its about showmanship, collaboration, writing effective lyrics etc. He knows how to market himself and create an image. I always get annoyed when I see other guitarist constantly bashing him. It takes so much more than guitar skills to get where he is at.. And to top it off, he can just as easily play piano, drums, and perform lead vocals on stage on any given day. Now tell me, how many artist do you know, that are capable of all of this? Calling him a guitar god is a long shot, though.
I think its because his style and sound has that organic, analog classic rock feel and sound that a lot of people miss these days.. He combines that at times with some modern stuff. I agree he never comes of as a masterful technical guitarist, but his sound and some of his riffs bring back that feel you got listening to legends like Jimmy Page. So many musicians today are highly dependent on signal processing and digital gadgets to sound decent. Sometimes there is nothing better then hearing a good player play dirty or clean through some tube amps with very little effects overloading the tone and sound of the guitar.
Once there was a man who filmed his vacation. He went flying down the river in his boat with his video camera to his eye, making a moving picture of the moving river upon which his sleek boat moved swiftly toward the end of his vacation. He showed his vacation to his camera, which pictured it, preserving it forever: the river, the trees, the sky, the light, the bow of his rushing boat behind which he stood with his camera preserving his vacation even as he was having it so that after he had had it he would still have it. It would be there. With a flick of a switch, there it would be. But he would not be in it. He would never be in it. -"The Vacation" by Wendell Berry
You might as well: "And there was this one guy. Who fell off a bridge when he was trying to take a selfie on vacation... Yeah, he died." (from "His Vacation Sucked" from the collection "This One Guy" by me)
I absolutely applaud Jack White's efforts on bringing the sheeple back to reality. Sadly, we live in narcissistic civilization that lives to please others with their actions and exploits instead of soaking in great moments. I myself enjoy filming live shows, and I can personally attest that it truly takes away from the experience. Kudos Jack, for taking a stand for something you are passionate about.
There's nothing wrong about taking a picture or two at a show, or recording a few seconds of your favourite song by your favourite musician, but there are certain people who push their way to the front and stand there with their phone in the air for the duration of the concert, exchanging dirty looks or words with people around them who are brushing up against them while dancing, cheering, singing along and having fun. C'mon people! Put down your damn phones and enjoy the moment, appreciate the music, and experience the ping-pong of emotion that the audience & artist are exchanging! Furthermore, I didn't pay $30, 60, $100 bucks to stand behind you while you have your arms in the air, phone in my face, blocking my view for the entire hour and a half. There are concert DVD's for that!
it is a colossal annoyance and you start to wonder why everyone has such an utter lack of cool to constantly point their stupid smartphones at a band... I am afraid it is one of many problems with the "next" generations is their reliance on technology to feel normal.
When we went to concerts in the 70's and 80's on the tickets it said no cameras. You never saw this camera problem until cell/camera phones came to the market. Many think they also own the copyright to the footage they shoot which they do not.
I hope more bands do this. I hate seeing everyone with their phones out during a concert. How many times are you really going to watch a crappy iPhone video of a concert? You can find much better video (with decent audio) on line.
I would say keep your phones low and out of the way, but if they're going to release the concert footage online anyways just stop filming it makes no sense to.
I understand that someone wants to take a picture of the concert they're in (it's nice to have pictures to look back on!!) but god damnit when people try to record the whole shit. You are *never* going to watch those 50 clips of bad quality footage. Enjoy the concert _while_ you're at it.
Jeremy Stire Dont call Glen Danzig shit....he would prolly take a big freaking SHIT on your mom bro....Danzig is a fucking LEGEND and a MYTH, the songs he wrote with Misfits in the early days have so much passion within them compared to Tankian.....
Joakim Rydström Danzig is shit, and he probably would take a shit on my mom because he's a fucking weirdo. Legend? Not at all. Myth? Clearly not since he is proven to exist. He puts more passion into his songs than Tankian? Are you stupid? He puts more passion into his vocals perhaps, but his actual lyrics are garbage just like almost all the other mainstream piece of shit band out there. Tankian on the other hand writes about problems in Israel, wars in the Middle East, poverty, etc. You know shit that's actually wrong with the world and by writing about these things he addresses them, unlike Danzig and all the other morons who got famous for writing garbage.
Enrique Godinez If you're standing far away from a concert... what do you do? Bring binoculars and look like a fucking idiot?? I'd rather take advantage of my quality camera on my phone and enjoy to the music than look at tiny ant people while enjoying the music. Of course, some situations, people _do_ take it too far with their incessant recording and use of their phones.
halcyon daze Well if I know i'm gonna be far away I rather not go. Besides when people do that they are watching the concert trough their phone screen, what the fuck is that shit? Just stay at your house and watch a concert on your computer.
I went to 2 of his concerts and one crowd totally commited to not using their phones while the other time a lot of people just didn't care and you could really tell the difference. The first one was just a giant party where everyone went wild and was chanting all of jis lyrics while the other time it was just a weird feeling to stand beside people who didn't move at all for the entire concert because they wanted to get a decent video or whatever..
People saying you should be allowed to record because you paid for the privilege, you're paying for the privilege to watch a band perform, that's it; and that privilege is for EVERYBODY. You aren't entitled to prevent someone enjoying what they paid for.

have it. It would be there. With a flick
of a switch, there it would be. But he
would not be in it. He would never be in it.
-"The Vacation" by Wendell Berry
It's cool and all, until you realize headmounted cameras are a thing.
Just don't use those in concerts, don't be a jackass!
DaBlaSit 😂
You might as well: "And there was this one guy. Who fell off a bridge when he was trying to take a selfie on vacation... Yeah, he died." (from "His Vacation Sucked" from the collection "This One Guy" by me)
Go to the show. Watch it. Enjoy being in the moment.
i agree with him. no one is in the moment just trying to save it for later
Very cool piece of vinyl!
He looks the main guy character from corpse bride
He looks like the drummer from dead weather
and a member of the raconteurs
Edward Velazco Dead Weather's label is Third Man Records which is actually owned by Jack White
He's like a real life Tim Burton character and I love it
01:40 and now, 2020, there's quarantine for real again, Jack.
he always had that Johnny Deppish kinda of look ...
Who is Johnny Deppish?
Johnny Depp..... ish is just addition to the Depp like selfish, fetish, foolish etc.... :) hope you know who Johnny Depp is...
Claw Finger Johnny dope
PR F cell phone video people are the bane of the concert
it is a colossal annoyance and you start to wonder why everyone has such an utter lack of cool to constantly point their stupid smartphones at a band...
Not a big fan of his music, but he's without a doubt an artist's artist. He takes his shit seriously.
When he was born his mom wanted to call him Jack black but apparently that username was taken
I hope more bands do this. I hate seeing everyone with their phones out during a concert. How many times are you really going to watch a crappy iPhone video of a concert? You can find much better video (with decent audio) on line.
Yeah i was really happy because i went to see the lumineers and wesley asked the crowd to do that and everything was much better that way!
I would say keep your phones low and out of the way, but if they're going to release the concert footage online anyways just stop filming it makes no sense to.
I think a lot of people film not to watch it later but to show people that they were actually there
And this is where the dumb logic lies. Why do people need to prove they were at a concert? What does it do for them?
exactly
i like this. it is really a very fundamental question: the importance of actual experience versus recollection (memory).
Does anyone else feel like Jack White looks like a Tim Burton Character?
I thought I was the only one
edward scissorhands !
Yup! He should be in a Tim burton film with Johnny deep that'll be awesome!
Yup! He should be in a Tim burton film with Johnny deep ,that'll be awesome!
Yup! He should be in a Tim burton film with Johnny deep ,that'll be awesome!
I don’t take a lot pics and vids at but I still rock out and enjoy the moment!!!
LOL the ad before this - was for a cell phone!
i love his talking voice
I understand that someone wants to take a picture of the concert they're in (it's nice to have pictures to look back on!!) but god damnit when people try to record the whole shit. You are *never* going to watch those 50 clips of bad quality footage. Enjoy the concert _while_ you're at it.
such a precious man,, i'm in need
Absolutely loved not having my phone at his show! One of the best performances I've ever seen Raconteurs killed it
Was his show really awesome.
I should not have taken a drink before that last punch line.
most adorable laugh 2:12
😍😍😍
all of you complaining about his comment regarding phones and calling Jack a hipster CLEARLY missed the point. good day to you
true artist right there
Ironic how he's called jack white and not Jack black
I really like his way of thinking.
I NEED THAT VINYL NOW
If Glenn Danzig and Serj Tankian had a son
brandon mcgaw oh my god, now i can't stop thinking of this idea
Danzig is complete garbage, Tankian is an evolutionist of music, and Jack White is a modern blues God.
Jeremy Stire
Dont call Glen Danzig shit....he would prolly take a big freaking SHIT on your mom bro....Danzig is a fucking LEGEND and a MYTH, the songs he wrote with Misfits in the early days have so much passion within them compared to Tankian.....
You know shit that's actually wrong with the world and by writing about these things he addresses them, unlike Danzig and all the other morons who got famous for writing garbage.
brandon mcgaw tankian is a genius
Well we can't exactly zoom in with our eyes...
But your eyes are much higher resolution, and your mind has much more RAM.
Stupidest comment I've read here.
Enrique Godinez If you're standing far away from a concert... what do you do? Bring binoculars and look like a fucking idiot?? I'd rather take advantage of my quality camera on my phone and enjoy to the music than look at tiny ant people while enjoying the music.
Of course, some situations, people _do_ take it too far with their incessant recording and use of their phones.
halcyon daze
Well if I know i'm gonna be far away I rather not go. Besides when people do that they are watching the concert trough their phone screen, what the fuck is that shit? Just stay at your house and watch a concert on your computer.
Enrique Godinez You do you, I'll do me.
Jack Black is cooler
Not in the slightest.
Not in the whitest.
Jackmerius Tacktheritrix Racist...
Walter White is the coolest
This is my favorite thread on this video.
The term "Rock God" has finally Showed Himself
This guys is a genius. He's telling people to stop being morons. Love it.
+Tom Peters Without calling them idiots, or being condescending. Which is the hardest fucking thing.
YASSSSS JACK WHITE!!!!!!! YOU GO!!!!!!!!!!! 0:30-0:35
Neutral Milk Hotel did this when I saw them at the Ryman in February. I was grateful for that
Wow, so this is what Tim Burton and Johnny Depp's love child would look like.
He could play every character
Johnny Depp was in every movie..
Jack blacks cousin jack white?
Nooooooo!
+luke6121 that's not how names work
+Chris Sotos you know i was joking right?
+Luke6121 jokes make sense
+Chris Sotos they don't have to make sense. Even if it doesn't make sense to you it might make sense to someone else
People saying you should be allowed to record because you paid for the privilege, you're paying for the privilege to watch a band perform, that's it; and that privilege is for EVERYBODY. You aren't entitled to prevent someone enjoying what they paid for.
