Hello Hayley and Richard, I am a new to your channel and I enjoy watching your adventures on your beautiful boat, I am 69 years old and did plan many years ago that when I retired I would travel full time on a narrow boat (or wide beam) or camper van, Circumstances put a stop to this but I enjoy watching you and other boaters on UA-cam to keep my love of adventure and travel alive. I don’t think there is anything else to add to the comments about condensation on this vlog as double glazing and a dehumidifier to take the moisture out of the air before it hits cold surfaces will help immensely,as you said Hayley when the fire is lit and ventilation is good the stern of your boat is almost dry. Enjoy life aboard your boat and stay safe.😎
Hi 👋 Michael thank you so much for your lovely comment so glad we can help bring your adventure alive. So sorry you didn’t get to realise your plans 😔 I guess you could always have boating holidays 😁 Or if you ever see us give us a wave or hop aboard 😁❤️
Hi Guys, Looks good! We were boaters for 12 years and when we sold our boat it still looked (and smelled!) like brand new. Our secret was to always have a dehumidifier running on board. Our Eberspacher kept us nice and toasty, the dehumidifier kept us dry. HTH. x
Hi 👋 Andrew, I agree a lot of people say a dehumidifier is good, the only problem is running one when not hooked up in a marina as it would drain the batteries unless there was a 12 volt option.
@@WidebeamandWellingtons Hi Hayley, there are 12V versions for boats, but they are a bit pricey. The trouble with not getting it out of the air is it will condense somewhere else or cause mildew. 😳
Get a dehumidifier. We have one in our RV and haven't had a foggy window since we got it. We live in Oregon. More rain than England but slightly less than Ferenginar. I turn it on after the batteries are charged and solar is free. I dump the water on the plants.
@@WidebeamandWellingtons Did you miss the part about me living in Oregon in an RV. We make it work on solar. TBH we watch a ton of TV AND laptop use. Your solar can handle it.
Hiya Hayley and Richard! Watched your vlog👍, I presume that when the windows are double glazed you cant take them out to clean? Am I correct thinking that? 🤔. You will find a way to sort it, that's how you roll!! Loved seeing clips of Bailey and Buster.🐾🐾❤.
Hi Margaret 👋 we hope you’re well. Actually you can still take the windows out to clean if they’re double glazed, they are just much heavier, I would probably manage a porthole but would definitely need Richard to lift the others 😂 You’re right we’re always up for a challenge! Bailey and Buster say hi 🐾 🐾 🥰
A simple free standing dehumidifier would make a difference. If you want to do a better job, I suggest you look at an air/heat exchanger “system” for your boat. This has the added advantage of exchanging old stale air and replacing it with fresh. Also, a good system will preheat incoming air by passing it over a grid as well as condensing internal water vapor with a drain you can rout out of the hull.
Hi 👋 Todd thank you for leaving a comment and the advice 😁 We do also have a dehumidifier now too and think we’ve got it sorted, will bear the exchanger in mind though 😁
There are cans of condensate absorbers you can buy in RV supply stores in the HU and I would imagine you could find them in the UK with all of the campers I’ve see in Vlogs. There are also electric/electronic absorbers that do the same thing and you have to drain the water after a few days as they do fill up rrather quickly depending how much fluid is in the air.
Hi 👋 Gerald thank you for this, will have to look into it, maybe damp traps with the crystals in? We do also have a small dehumidifier but we still seem to get the condensation on the windows, guess it’s trial and error 😁
Hi guys, Love your videos, I'm buying a boat on the Norfolk broads and looking for ways to reduce condensation like yourselves. Just wondered if your windows were single glazed when you tried the film? Have you discovered the best way of illuminating the problem with condensation? Cheers Mike
Hi Mike, thank you ☺️ yes we did try the film and it does work but the best thing we’ve found so far is making pop in and out thermal breaks, they are brilliant, we did a video on it, if you haven’t seen it 😁 ua-cam.com/video/YcqSk6K93Bk/v-deo.htmlsi=HiZK9JzNDL4FISYB
Thank you for the reply, sorry in the delay in response. I've watched the video about thermal infills I can't believe how well they work good job guys, ive learnt so much from your videos keep up the good work 👍👌@WidebeamandWellingtons
I can understand having condensation on the glass as that should collect at the bottom and exit through a weep hole but that was a lot of condensation on those inner porthole frames. Do they not fit a gasket between the inner frame and the shell of the boat to act as a thermal barrier? Can double glazed sealed units be retro fitted into the existing frames?
Hi 👋 they do all they can but without double glazing there is always moisture on the glass. We can buy double glazed windows but they’re quite expensive so will need to wait a bit! 😁
Can’t tell from the vid if you have double glazed panels or not. If you don’t Cauldwells can supply just the units with just a small alteration to you catches needed DIY.
Hi 👋 Les no unfortunately we don’t have double glazed panels. We’ve been trying to get hold of Cauldwells by email and phone but never had any luck getting hold of anyone! 🤷♀️
@@WidebeamandWellingtons I know that at the moment they are working through a backlog for a number of builders, keep trying it is worthwhile. If you do decide to change them have a think about getting them tinted. Still let in loads of light and it reducers the peepers though the day.

Hi guys.. as you have a new boat do you not have double glazing.? I thought there would be no condensation with double glazing.
Unfortunately we don’t even though we bought her new she was already fully fitted and we were unaware of what a difference double glazing would make 🙈
Don't be fooled though I know some has said it's made no diff, so I'm rather wary to spend the money changing to double glazing

Sticky tape and clingfilm isnt exactly a classy look on such an expensive boat.
