    This is financial advice and I never give financial advice: DONT LEAVE DURING THE BEAR. If you don’t want to invest…learn. If you don’t want to learn…build. If you don’t want to build observe. DO SOMETHING…other than leave. There is so much opportunity here. Take advantage!

      Very true, I started investing before the pandemic and that same year I pulled a profit of about $750k with no prior investing experience, basically all I was doing was seeking guidance from *ROCHELLE DUNGCA-SCHREIBER* who's a guru in the game, you can be passively involved with the aid of a professional.

    Sorry, Retirement at the age 52 was the absolute BEST! I have been retired for 6 years and have so many interests and so much fun. I lost weight. Started to grow a garden. Started some great cooking. Started water aerobics and daily walking. Spend time at the coffee shop with my husband playing cards. One of my favorite books is your Money or your Life. I always happy seeing someone else happy and working but for me my life improved 10 times over in retirement. I had some great role models in my life like my dad who really blossomed in retirement. So it might not be for everyone.

      @@pinkie09999 I bought the edition "revised for the 21st century" because it is a rather old book (about 80 years old) and therefore, a lot of the information is outdated. Even though it contains some helpful pages (like the checkmark lists for achieving your goals), I wouldn't recommend this book in contrast to Ahad.
      The main reasons are the esoteric imaginations Mr Hill is sticked to (like this collective ether of voices that doesn't exist and makes no sense at all) and the fact that he doesn't mention passive work/passive income as an alternative for a good and successful life (not even once!). Instead, the author only talks about the difficulties of finding a good job and the hard work that's connected to a long and successful career, which is, of course, also important, but only a small part of the ingredients of how to grow rich and wealthy.
      In conclusion: I would only recommend the revised edition, if any edition, cause this book is really outdated and not very helpful....
      Sorry, if this comment was too long, I unfortunately tend to write long comments. Definitely my fault!

      There is also plenty of new research which gives ground to rejection of the concept of "free will" in moral decision making, especially with refrence to split second decision making in complex situation with high levels of uncertainty. Yet many legal systems are based on silent assumption that free will is real, so there are also many new books published as a part of discussion between lawyers and law-makers and experts in neuroscience about whether or not it still makes sense to take this assumption for granted in some legal cases. In others it porbably will have to remain but is should be amde clear that it's yet another "legal fiction" not something real.

      Thank You for suggestion. I will check his talks. As for free will- well, neuroscience can already prove that our brain knows half a minute before we decide to do something on a conscious level (so using prefrontal cortext) that we are about to do this thing, so as much as I liked the concept of "free will" I have to admit - according to most recent state of scientific knowledge we have to admit that this concept is at the best "comfortable legal fiction we all agree on" rather than how human decision making in fact works.

  • @SaraMakesArt
    @SaraMakesArt 6 років тому +3

    Those of us who work for ourselves don't want to retire because our job isn't just a way to pay the bills, it's our passion. For a lot of us, it's our identity really. The people who look forward to retiring are usually the people who work for someone else. My family and I just went on a four week road trip and my stepdad pointed out that that would be impossible if he and my mom were still working.
    I've heard years ago people would have something called a sabbatical year, where maybe seven years or so, instead of just getting a few weeks off from work, people would get a whole year off. This would make things like long leisurely trips possible and could be a good alternative to full on retirement.
    Also, I love Boyinaband too. I didn't discover him very long ago, but his video about internet addiction, partly about active use of the internet vs passive use, made me realize how fortunate content creators are.

    • @Thomasfrank
      @Thomasfrank  6 років тому +1

      I love the sabbatical concept. The 4-Hour Work Week also mentions "mini-retirements", which are basically the same thing: Take a good long break from working, but then come back to a new project. I think this fits in much better with the cycles of work and rest that we operate on. People need some sort of mission to be working towards.

      It's funny you mention 7 years, because I'm actually rising like a phoenix after 7 years of being a stay at home dad with my kids. I'm 50 this year and feel like this is just the beginning, retirement is the antithesis of the direction I'm heading, that's for sure. And, @Thomas Frank, your videos are a really good influence. Keep up the good work, and thanks for all you do.

    Hey Tom!
    I don't usually read books, but recently I've been having this urge to start absorbing knowledge from the books. But there is so much of them, so I don't really want to start from complex and deep books, so that I don't get tired of them fast. Do you have any suggestions for easy and addictive books that will develop the habit of reading?

    • @seth1705
      @seth1705 6 років тому +1

      MrUaliev Harry Potter books are really easy and have a good story, especially if you haven't seen the films or can't remember the storylines. Other teen fiction can be good, but I'd definitely recommend fiction over non fiction to start

      Yes approach reading with the intention to learn something that interests you, but at the end of the day, you cant go wrong with Harry Potter. I use to only read books for educational purposes, which was enjoyable / rewarding but when I stumbled upon the HP series, I discovered the joy of reading. Now, I read about 3 books at a time, one of them always being a fiction book that I can read while laying on my bed at the end of the day.

    • @MrUaliev

      Thanks guys. I've already tried reading Harry Potter back when I was a kid but I didn't really enjoy it and barely passed through first 40 pages of the first book. It felt like an obligation to read it. Maybe I will try it again but I'm already 20 and not really into wizards sort of genre.

      I still don't like reading, but now, everytime i commute or go to the park, i'll always listen to an audiobook. I found out that my memory associates places i've been to with chapters i've listenned, so every time i go to the place it makes me think of the book, it is really insane when you think about it but really useful.

    I am adopting you as my honorary son. You have inspired me to be myself again. i was energetic like you back in the day, then married someone who was jealous of the optimism. After I divorced him he spent 10 years convincing the world (and me) that I was manic (and therefore bipolar - and therefore not qualified to raise my children or practice my profession - all of which are doing great btw). I have been, however, hiding under a rock. Good to see the light again! Thanks for the inspiring videos
