Even better if one of them is kind of a rookie to the whole full-on evil schtick and their far more experienced partner is just being So Patient with them. Like yes they’re evil and in love but there is just so much tenderness- -(I am. Total Crossmare trash so that probably explains my fondness for this dynamic.)-
One of my favorite dynamics is “absolute bestest friends and they love each other very much but it is 100% platonic and they will never date” I think this is why I find children’s media (ie The Octonauts) so good
this is james potter and sirius black for me! they're always portrayed as best mates with the utmost respect and love for each other, and i love that. 😼 in fact, i need MORE of that.
YES YES YES THIS! i hate it so much when people start shipping them romantically too, like NO get away from my babies can't you see they're meant to be platonic besties/sibling figures for each other!!! (exhibit A: narumayo from ace attorney, exhibit B: bokacsek from the paul street boys (yes it's a small obscure fandom bc noone cares about hungary but i have STRONG opinions about them))
Also Natsu and Lucy from Fairy Tail. So much of the show is based around the fact that they love and would do anything for one another, people have been shipping them for years and yet the writer's always been outspoken about how they're friends and are never gonna date
I have two characters that clearly care for each other and always are around each other like the idea you presented They both date other people. Both are boys and one represents me and i'm straight, so is he. Their relationship never changes, after all both the friends and their gf's are all friends and they'd definitely do a double date
People are sleeping on "best friends to enemies to lovers" and I'm tired of it. it's about the inevitability of the fallout, the tension building up for possibly years. But how the love was there - still IS there. They have seen the best and worst of each other and in the pain there is so much yearning and God if they just talked it out and kissed they'd never let go of each other again-
what about ANTI-Romance-tropes? one of my male main characters has suffered through the abuse of his ex-wife and meets another woman, who immediately falls for him. but he rejects her again and again, due to his relationship-trauma, he still didn't get over, even after years. and his story will end with... the main character and the woman NOT being together, because the woman learned to respect his boundaries and accepted that she can't just "kiss away" his mental scars. but they became good friends. The Protagonist didn't fully heal from his trauma YET, but learned how to deal with it better. it's basically supposed to be a counter to this trope: "this troubled guy was a monster, until this BEAUTIFUL WOMAN changed him into a literal puppy~"
Omggggg I LOVE this! There aren't enough male-female platonic relationships as it is but this... This has my heart! If you ever write it, linkkkkk pls?🫶🏻🥹
FEENRIS. FEEN. RIS. i ship feenris romantically too but this is what they were always meant to be deep down (bonus points because Iris is actually the one behind the trauma)
one of my favorite platonic tropes is "depressed traumatized dad who's watched his kids die before and is emotionally closed off/illiterate meets depressed traumatized daughter with no father who is emotionally closed off/illiterate and somewhere along the line they realize that they care about each other a lot" i also really like "guy x lesbian but theyre just besties who confide in each other and genuinely do care about each other a lot but not romantically and they do a lot of chaotic stupid. everyone who doesn't know them thinks they're dating but they're really not" and my favorite romance trope is "dumbass x pretends to be annoyed but is secretly a dumbass too. theyre prolly both nd."
the guy x lesbian reminds me of a fic i read once but it was a canon compliant fic and you knew all the way through that the guy is going to be murdered that fic HURT to read😭😭
For some reason, I have a whole lot of trios consisting of a gay couple and a platonic mutual friend of the opposite gender and all three of them cause chaos, while random spectators incorrectly assume it's a love triangle...
@@darkacadpresenceinblood I know this is months late but do you remember the name of the fic? I’m super curious now, especially since this is also one of my favourite dynamics
@@ink4046 i will *never* forget that fic it lives rent free in my head and still makes me sad occasionally even after like half a year😭 it's an ace attorney fic called "electricity aside" i recommend reading up on the backstory of doug swallow, Phoenix Wright and Iris/Dahlia hawthorne (from ace attorney trials and tribulations, and specifically the first case of the game) if you wanna read it cuz it's basically a canon compliant backstory for that murder the lesbian is only a side original character (bestie of the love interest) but i love her
The premiere hasn’t even started yet, but I’m already amused because I’m somehow both halves of the thumbnail’s dynamic simultaneously. Like, oh yeah? You think I’m insane? *You’ve only seen the tip of the iceberg.*
One of my faves is when two characters are not dating, and never will be, but are definitely way more than just friends. Two characters that are meant for one another, but not in a romantic way
My favorite trope is when two characters are madly in love and totally (unofficially) dating but the only ones unaware of this fact are the two in question. Like being in love and being there for eachother is such a natural thing for them that they dont even realize it's happening.
YES! Exactly this! They’ll both go totally red in the face at the notion that they’re together and insist that the other definitely doesn’t like them back but they are essentially already together and couldn’t possibly hide their undying love for the other even though they try! They think they’ll never have it, they don’t deserve it, but when they’re together none of that matters and they will love each other with their every breath because it would be impossible not to!
Two characters beating each other in to a pulp and then just laying down on the floor and talking everything out while still in pain and bleeding, be it platonic or romantic, makes me go absolutely feral.
I like enemies to lovers and all (specifically enemies to friends to lovers) but what REALLY does it for me is enemies to best friends, especially when, from the outside, it seems like they still hate each other. It’s funny and can be really sweet at the same time. ‘I used to want to kill you, and sometimes I still do, but if anything bad happened to you I’d immediately fix the problem through incredibly violent measures, sometimes even without laughing at you first.’ At the same time though, just flat out ‘enemies’ is good too. I love it when characters hate each other and express it outwardly
The best dynamic: couple who actually act like they fucking LIKE each other. That should be obvious, but so much media is just like “these two are in a relationship now”, and do nothing with it, aside from maybe a kiss or makeout sesh, and one walking in on the other in a state of undress. And half the time, they don’t even seem like they want to be together. I don’t care about any of that. I want one character telling some random outsider how much they miss the other while they’re separated. When asked “what do you like about them” - I want specific answers about the things that they lover drive them crazy. I’m so sick of dialogue where characters just list off things they hate about the other but then end it with “… But I still love them” - like, bitch, no you _don’t,_ it’s not love if you don’t even like the other person. On a more serious note, a specific trope I like, is a power couple, specifically where say one is guarded and pragmatic, and the other is bright, popular, and cheerful, but is also a bit of a doormat. And so, the extroverted one ends up showing the introverted one the joys of the world outside of isolation, and the introverted one motivates the extrovert to advocate for himself more. Or another variant, hero x ex-villain, where the hero progressively and patiently guides the ex-villain who is still struggling with their newfound morality, whereas the ex-villain helps to open up the mind of the hero, and re-tools their old villainous techniques for good. Bonus points if there’s a moment where the hero is at an impasse, where he’s like “Ugh, I can’t do anything about this horrible thing because the Hero’s Council won’t allow it!”, and then the ex-villain is like “Well good thing I’m not a hero!”, and then sets off to save the day. MMMMM, that shit is SO tasty
Give me an ACTUAL love triangle!! Mike has a crush and Melissa, Melissa has a crush on Jeremiah, Jeremiah likes mike. Pleeeaaassseee I can’t live without an ACTUAL love triangle
My (basic-ass) favourite relationship dynamics. *Romantic* -Little Miss Perfect (with some Hurt/Comfort) -Single Woman Seeks Good Man -Dumbasses. An airport's worth of baggage. *Platonic* -Boy and girl that have no romantic feelings for each other; they're just silly and goofy together -Found Family -Gay dude & lesbian
Omg gay dude and lesbian being inseparable best friends and also being a wingman for the other (I didn't even realize I was doing this in a story I'm currently writing)
There's something sweet about the elegance/banana couple eventually warming up to the others' way of doing things and switching which is banana and which is dapper. Then realising that they love to wear banana not because of the clothes but because they love the other person and will always feel comfort when wearing their oversized hoodie, just as they do when they're wearing their suit of metaphorical armour that is their fanciness
The best dynamic I even seen is "I hate you because I fear you and deshumanize you in my head, see you as a monster that will end my life. Yet deep down I can see how you're just a human like me and I care about you even if I'm not aware of it" and "Your actions have hurted me and I have also deshumanized you yet I still know you're a human being I can't understand but I want to understand and get along" And yet both are fundamentally the same, hurted by the same people that made him hate each other in the first place. And then they're siblings. Amazing.
I love to the relationship dynamic that makes powerful men grovel at the feet of their partner and beg for forgiveness. Because his pride and obsession led to him crossing the line, and now his partner is about to walk away from him forever. It’s about a man who’s so used to getting his way find he craves the one thing he cannot buy or steal or trap: a person’s love and trust. It’s about his partner, who loved him, but can’t accept the way he’s hurt them and so they’ll walk away from the money and the status if it means retaining their dignity. It’s about changing yourself into a better person, not because someone’s making you, but because you know you have to do it to be happy. And then there’s also the inherent fantasy of more men walking away from their toxic masculinity. They may be fictional, but I still count that as a win.
Traumatized himbo and the jaded boyfriend who will protect and help him to heal. Both have problems with self worth, but won't stand for the other to put himself down. Borderline yandere confronts guy for getting close to the man he's obsessed with, only to find out that the other guy is extremely ok with him being in the relationship too. Guy and girl who get mistaken for a couple, but would really be the best man at each other's wedding. Exasperated sassy guy ends up being everyone's non-official parent, while his boyfriend is all to willing to be a cheerful bad influence.
The first one describes my OC incarnations of Link and Zelda pretty decently. Link is a chaotic bisexual golden retriever troubled by emotional abuse from his father Ganondorf and the time he accidentally led a battalion of Gerudo into a trap and couldn't save them. Sheik II is jaded and cold because she's lived her entire life on the run from Ganondorf, disguised as a boy. In addition to all the angst that would imply, she has a gender identity crisis because after so long crossdressing, being openly female feels fake and foreign, but at the same time, her male persona feels fake too.
I think my favourite trope will always be the best friends that are super close but nobody knows whether they are dating or not. Like they’ll feed each other and sit in each other’s laps and call each other endearments and flirt but nobody knows whether they’re joking or not Bonus points if they’re gay Bonus bonus points if one has been deeply in love with the other for the entirety of their friendship, and the other is oblivious
One of my fav tropes is two characters who pretend they hate each other but all their arguments have romantic undertones and everyone except themselves know they like each other
These are my favourite more platonic relationships tropes that I wish to see more: -Some kind of big scary monster or abomination out of this world actually being a doting and caring parent to any children,or basically any person -Person thinking that they are the most baddest villian ever-ends up adopting a bunch of kids and being the best parent that they can be to them, even if they didn't planned it in the first place -Or Person A that is very energetic and always seek adventures with trouble & Person B,who is more laid back and relaxed always watching over Person A to make sure they're okay -Can't forget the:Everyone thinks they are dating, but they are just very close friends
I need more of ALL OF THEM Each of them are such good tropes omg, especially the first+second one!! I call it the Parental Villain trope dhdjdbdk, can and will gobble up any fic I find of these
My fav is hero half way through their corruption arc x villain half way through their redemption arc, and their morally grey love (can be platonic or romantic, doesn’t really matter) Bonus if they’re the ones who triggered each others arcs. It’s the best thing ever.
@@zealouslyCantankerous Franziska von Karma x Maya Fey from ace attorney. it makes like little to no sense bc they barely interact in canon but it's still somehow really popular (makes a good secondary ship for a popular main pairing ig) and their personalities do compliment each other in a really nice way so there's that
My favourite relationship trope is "A and B went through similar trauma at hands of either the same institution, person or event but their experiences are different enough to cause miscommunications. At the same time, no one else can understand that pqin so well"
I’ve never really found a story like this, but I’ve always very specifically loved the idea of “I can fix him” but like… make it very politically charged. You aren’t just fixing him, you are fixing his worldview and helping him develop a more kind ideological perspective. Softly read Malatesta to him until he gets it. Sitting on your lap, fingers in his hair, he’s learning what mutual aid is - it’s perfect. Absolute ideal. Take a broken man and get him into theory
Got me thinking about my characters ship dynamic. Two old men, absolutely demolished by life itself, found themselves far away from the abusive (somewhat romantic in one of their cases) relationship both of them found themselves in. Yet they both still choose to hide some aspect of themself from the other, embarrassed at what has become of them. Then later in the story they are free of the abusive relationships through potentially literal power of love? And still didn’t realize their feelings for eachother until a month or two later, and took them even longer to figure out the reason they had made it through that horrible, dark time for the both of them, was each other.
Pretty Popular person X Smart person is my jam. I will write this always. And I never write the average "Popular gives Nerd a chance" or "Nerd puts aside misgivings to find a good person under the assumptions" tropes either. Not because that's necessarily a BAD path to go down, but because there's so many other ways to go about it that are less explored. Having someone who could have ANY person they really wanted within reason fall in love with the dedication it takes to be considered "smart" can go so many directions. Having the Smart Person seeing something more than attractiveness, something more than public renown, in the pretty popular person that is enticing can also go so many ways.
Here's a good one: the "suddenly married" trope, specifically when the relationship hasn't developed yet. How doesn't matter. Whether it's an arranged marriage, accidentally getting married due to a cultural misunderstanding, or a surprise marriage from getting black-out drunk in Vegas or whatever other hijinks, our two leads have suddenly gotten married and just have to deal with it. At least one isn't fully on board at first, but both make an effort to be as good of a spouse as they can for the other. Usually there's some sort of feelings of "This is incorrect, but isn't actually wrong? We could theoretically fix this, but I don't mind how things turned out actually." And the genuine care, kindness, and understanding both give to the other cause them to genuinely fall for each other as it turns out they're pretty great as a married couple. That's the good shit.
My Romance Dynamics: > "Me and the bad bitch I pulled by being autistic" with the genders reversed. > Guy's previous girlfriend died, he slowly falls in love with another girl who is wildly different from the previous one, and he saves the new girl from the same thing that killed the old one. > Hardened military commander woman who has seen horrors that her innocent underling wouldn't understand falls in love with said innocent underling. > Zesty, smug royal asshole and his devious, deceitful advisor fall in love as their diabolical plot to conquer the universe unfolds. > Religious soldier who has known nothing but war meets deacon woman who was ostracized from her church for egregious sins, and they find solace in their horrible misdeeds together. All of these tropes come from the same series, btw.
I’m way more of a sucker for platonic tropes than romantic ones, but I’ll occasionally dabble in romance with one trope or another. I generally prefer to have romantic relationships in the background, rather than the main focus.
4:17 is Apothecary Diaries to a T and I agree!!!!!!!! I need some more of that!!! No so much that I'm drowning, but enough that I'm feening yet can be satisfied reread/watching them over and over
Enemies to lovers? No Lovers to enemies to rival to best friends Like they loved eachother, but something happened and they became enemies, always at each other's throat, but then the angers starts to dicipate and becomes a form of respectful rivalry which leads to them becoming best friends, not lovers, but best friends, always there for each other Also another great one: Enemies to reluctant allies to "two who love eachother, but they know that they are better off alone than together" A relationship which always leads to a bittersweet ending, after all, they were enemies once upon a time, and depending on how much they hurt eachother in that time, they would never work well as lovers
I greatly approve of 0:45 - the only thing funnier than a couple getting caught being soft and getting all flustered is a couple getting caught being soft and being matter-of-fact about it. "Oh, hey so-and-so, I've got the info you needed." "Uh, thanks? ...Isn't that... Distracting?" "No, I'm helping!" "A little, but nothing I can't handle." 3:55 Oh. Oh this one HURTS. 4:34 One of my favorite OC ships is this and I love them SO MUCH- She was the leader of a small rebel soldier group and he's literally just some guy. She met him on the recon mission that would lead her to rebel. She is trained with a variety of weapon types and is an expert scout. He works as a receptionist and likes making bento boxes. She's retired and they're married now, and his primary character trait has gone from "the most normal guy you will ever meet" to "he loves his cool sniper wife". 12:42 Sleeping Beauty
My absolute favorite trope is when a mentor and protégé evolve into a parent and child relationship. People are too obsessed with romance. It's the most common, weakness, and most conditional kind of love. To love someone like they were your own flesh and blood when they aren't is rare and more beautiful.
This, but complicate the relationship with enough trauma and behind the scenes red tape to fill a dump truck. I want both parties to have a laundry list of reasons why they shouldn't be getting this close to each other, and I want it so that neither of them can stop themselves from feeling the way that they do. Extra angst points if they cause each other a certain level of peril, and I don't just mean that their existence with the presence of each other puts both under threat, I mean that I want a conflict to arise between the two. Escalate until they're about to kill each other, but make them stop at the last second (or don't). The baggage that comes in the aftermath will be delicious.
A: Smoking hot, elegant, eloquent, sassy, only-pathetic-when-they-want-to-be, angsty, walking disaster, chaos magnet, with daddy issues up the wazoo. B: Sympathetic to A's issues and is unfailingly kind and compassionate to them, completely gets A's sense of humor, can sass back as good as they get, will only tolerate so much of A's BS before giving them a reality check. MCU fans know who A is.
For the final trope at the end, my mind instantly went to the platonic, brotherly relationship between Papyrus and Sans. Papyrus would walk into that get together looking like an ABSULUTE SNACK and Sans would just waddle in behind him looking like he was straight out of a cringe meme complication. Lol, just imagine. . . P: I TRIED TO GET HIM TO WEAR SOMETHING MORE CIVILIZED BUT. . . S: i'm a banana! i'm a banana! i'm a banana! P: WELL, YOU SEE. . .
3:15 I read one fic where the guy got his phone to Google up some advice right in the middle of being with his SO and his SO called him out on it. it still makes me giggle to this day
1:40 yknow. Read a fic that was sort of like this, guy crashes wedding (realises he has crashed the wrong wedding) then decides to plan the retry to make up for it (and falls in love with the groom)
This trope can be platonic or romantic but the trope where character A thinks no one loves them and thinks they aren’t good enough and character B would kill someone for character A
oh this video makes me so happy TT I'm a huge sucker for romance and cliches but I've also come to learn that one of my favorite platonic pairings is "i will always be your little shit
A ship troup I've been thinking about recently is tiny little 5ft 1 underweight suger cookie, she asks you if her boyfriend can come over and he's just this giant 6 foot tall brick wall with the most threatening look on his face. It only takes 1 minute of talking to him to realise he's even more sweet and innocent and baby than the other one.
One troupe i would love to see is something i call "The Crow and The Wolf" The Crow is Very Smart, maybe a bit manipulative/evil, openly threatening does the talking for the both of them, and is technically The Wolf's boss (and the leader of a group), but cares very deeply about The Wolf and trusts them more tahn anyone else. The Wolf is their right hand/bodyguard who isn't smart like The Crow is, but knowes their way around weapons and fights, is much more quiet but as equally if not more threatening than The Crow, and junps into action as soon as The Crow says something or they think The Crow is in danger, and doesn’t think much of themselves but would do anything to protect The Crow. Bonous points if The Wolf is taller than The Crow, and bonus bonus points if The Wolf tackles The Crow to protect them from something, checks to make sure they're all right, and then runs off to fight or whatever leaving The Crow a blushing mess
Im the strangers to friends to lovers person and im surprised you didnt add the addition of that post of "while everyone is losing their shit over the fact that they're friendly to one another" lmao Also seeing that old post come up while i was drawing to listening to the video shocked me so much LMAO honored to be here 😂
Character that usually stands out because of how strong they are suddenly becomes the voice of reason around their eccentric partner/best friend who is somehow stronger than them
Super niche one that i forced in my hcs creating an oc just for this: guy buying questionable items at the local supermarket (possible harm to himself or others) + the casheer(omg idk how to spell that word sorryyy) who basically kidnaps him until the end of her shift so she can make sure he's not a massive threat (then they become besties :3)
Mine is : traumatized person A has a memory loss for X reason and person B (a villan, rival, friend, family etc.) just gets to meet a whole new side of A since they can't remember they're sad traumatic past (can fall in love or dont thats for the writer to decide ) :D
Y'know that one dynamic at 3:41. That is literally mine and a friends character. We both made up characters and wrote them together. One had a perfect life, happy family, good upbringing (mine) and one was abandoned, hated by their family, and was nearly killed at the age of 10 (my friend's) and they are literally so perfecet for each other it makes me cry.
So I’m in my Fairly OddParents phase and I started specifically gravitating toward exploring what Trixie Tang and Timmy could mean to each other and I would like to add something to 2:04 Where is the pair of gender kids who found solace in each other’s willingness to be themselves around each other even if everywhere else and to everyone else they remain closeted? and that understanding never dulled Timmy’s crush but made it ultimately less important than just the act of being there for Trixie and Trixie catches feelings, but never enough nor at the right time to act on them and it’s ok because Timmy’s not going and anywhere and neither is Trixie and it’s not sibling vibes because there’s still a mutual crush, but those romantic feelings hold no candle to the mutual commitment to remain there for each other even as they get romantic partners and start to settle down with them instead. Also fun fact about my headcanon versions of them: Trixie sometimes goes by Trevor, (at first it was to have a consistent cover story when interacting with the Cashier at the comic book store, but it became something that he oddly looked forward to before realizing she was bigender) Timmy is a trans boy who wished to be a boy the first chance he got and Timantha, while entirely unwelcome initially, reminded Timmy that he also has girly interests and being able to do both, instead of forcing himself to reject feminine stuff because he doesn’t want to be a girl, is better for him. There’s quite a few other posts that fit them impeccably, but I think that 6:05 is best seen as Wanda wrangling her boys.
How about lovers to friends? But like, not in the awkward "I thought I felt this way about you, but I don't. I'm sorry" "But we can still be friends, right?" "... Sure" But like "I'm sorry, but I don't love you" "Nah dude, it's fine. I actually don't feel that way about you, either. I thought I did. But turns out I don't" "Oh, cool" "Wanna go to Denny's, as friends?" "Sure!" But then again, I'm aroace. So...
I recently noticed, that (apparently) my favouret ship dynamic is: Person B: fucking around constantly Person A: tired of person B's shit (affectionate) Bonus point if theres a constant stream of banter between the two XD
I know that we all love slow burns but wheres my falling intensely in love with each other immediately? The kind where even during the phase of getting to know each other you're still being intensely cute with each other. Where you're absolutely madly in love with each other while still remembering each others names
Character A discovering what they're into via Character B. Character A: What even _is_ Character B? Character A: Wait, that's actually kinda hot. Character A: Why am I into this.
I am IN LOVE with an extremely strong enemies-to-lovers forbidden-romance trope. Especially if the reason they started o it hating each other was their bloodline or nationality, it starts off strong and bold, but they start to frequently see each other (and even better if they have a scene where they get along pretty well, but make sure they realize they are getting along and then begin to dislike each other again.) Once they realize they like each other, things get more intense, and it’s all of the people on either sides of the country, clan or whatever begin to threaten to kill the two main characters for even seeing each other. And once they deeply fall in love, I can only imagine how intense things get from there. So sick and interesting
If the ship has anything in common with Julia x Carmen (Carmen Sandiego 2019) I will go FERAL over that shit. Bonus points if one has anything relating to religious trauma
one trope that keep popping up with my stuff is A to B "WHY ARE YOU LIKE THIS" B to A "get that stick outta your ass" but somehow they end up together and nether knows how
A found family dynamic with a parent-like figure and their basically adopted child? Sure, why not? BUT ONE OF THEM IS ROUGE ROBOT WHO LEARNS ABOUT MORALS AND STUFF FROM THE OTHER DOESN’T CARE THE OTHER IS A FREAKING CAPABLE OF MUDER ROBOT AND JUST TREATS THEM WHOLESOMELY??? HECK YES!!!!
Wait, but what if lovers to frienemies. They’re exes but a weird blend between the ex that you decide to stay mutual friends with since it ended on good terms and the petty and snarky ex that says stuff to get under your skin; they’re the kind of friends that are super mean to each other but it’s because they’re best friends and they know that they’re close enough and both are comfortable with having that kind of dynamic but the fact they’re exes gives them a whole different type of ammunition to throw at each other. You see them arguing and think they’re jaded exes that hate each other but you find out they’re still in constant contact, hanging out all the time and genuinely platonically care very deeply about the other. I never considered this dynamic before but now I think I need it more than anything.
10:51 as much as i love pynch this is what Ronan and Kavinsky were in the raven cycle and i love them for it... they were the worst but in such a hot way. that final fight between their dreams? that's love. rotten and toxic, but THAT'S LOVE.
Evil Supervillain whose signature personality trait is being evil / Neutral cold being who just goes along with it + Bonus point if they're their henchman / partner in crime. Tbh villain x villain is always on top (They are just friends / aquaintances though, they are nowhere close to act like lovers, I don't like romance. I fantasize about them being lovers because their interactions are perfect, if they where lovers their personality would come across as unidentifiable)
I think my top three absolute favourite dynamics, romantic or platonic, are: 1. Character who desperately needs a hug but refuses to admit it / Character who gives the best hugs 2. Loud character who will talk on and on about something for long periods of time (bonus points if it’s some kind of strategy or evil scheme) / Quiet character who just listens to them and offers their supportive feedback 3. Smol and dangerous / Tall and harmless
This was a really good video. So fun when people mention tropes and you immediately think of a pairing that fits it perfectly, ESPECIALLY if it’s of your own making. Two of these fit my original stories, and at least one fit a fanfic of mine. So fun!
Enemies to lovers is cool and all (not my thing but i can see why others like it), but what about lovers to enemies? And not (just) in the “they cheated on eachother/their relationship was abusive/they weren’t good partners for eachother” way, but somewhat like a reverse enemies to lovers- people realizing that they know they want to be with eachother (can be mutual or one sided for more angst), and they’ve been together for years, but their opposing moralities and ideals pushed them apart. The realization that they can’t fix eachother, that no matter how much they love(d) eachother they cannot deny the fact that being together could genuinely put their lives at risk. Their relationship didn’t start from a knife to the throat, it ended from a knife to the throat. And this time, it actually cut deep enough to kill.
I've read a manga that had a similar dynamic to the one in minute 11:07 and let me tell you....I didn't really like some characters, heck even the ending was kinda weird for me, but it does have a sequel that I think gives a better resolution for the characters. If yall are interested the name is scum's wish.
11:31 This is usually how I write Ferriswheelshipping now. Like, Touko finds N an interesting person and likes hanging out with him, and N finds her equally fascinating, but they're on opposite sides of the "ethics of Pokémon training" argument and, even pretty early on, they know it. It's a lot of debating and swapping viewpoints and Pokémon battling, but there's also the quiet, civil moments that make them both wonder, what if we could be like this all the time? Why do we have to fight? And yet they're both equally stubborn people whose ideas are seemingly irreconcilable.
one of the trope that i like is more situational. so character a is just this weak, brittle person who never held a sword or gun or anything (bonus if there is trauma including the weapon). and person b is the great warrior, the chosen one or something. so it's like the end, and their fighting the big bad. character b is on the ground, sword away, and has no fight left. the villain monologues, bfore trying to kill b until a grabs the sword and defends b. i really like it. you can tell that REvelations 2 is one of my favorite game.
Honestly, go with more bestie tropes. My best friend is my therapist, big sister figure, and partner in crime. like, "we're-on-run-from-the-fbi" kinda partner in crime. but it doesn't mean romance. it's just us... causing chaos... holding hands... and cuddling. 8:32 OOH OOH THIS ONE! THIS ONE! THIS IS THE BEST ONE IN THIS VIDEO!! AND IT COULD FIT MY FAV SHIP WITHOUT COMPLETELY CHANGING THEM WITHOUT CHANGING EVERYTHING ABOUT THEM!
Childhood friend that really love the MC, yet can't be with them due to the hardships life throws at them Only to end in a show of strenght that tell the MC that there was always someone there to help them, at the same time that friend learns they can stnd on their own, feeling worth of being side to side with MC
I like the two characters who are "more than just friends, but not dating" they're completely normal with flirting, kissing, cuddling, etc. and are aware the other is in love, but NEVER date . EVER. Why? Idk i guess out of spite or smth ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Some found siblings in a fanfic I'm making with my own found sibling A has been traumatized and never really had a childhood. Her life was systematically destroyed and she can't trust anyone but the gods that demand horrid things from her. And her found siblings, B and C. B is just kind to her and sees her as a person, not just a weapon or villain as so many have. And C looked up to A's late half-brother, and C deserves friends. D has just arrived after escaping her mother and E is put in charge of protecting her. The two do NOT like this arrangement and are snarky and rude to each other at first. But, slowly yet surely, the cracks in their supposed resentment shine and their care for each other gets more and more apparent.
I don’t think I’ve heard the term found sibling before but I love it and I have a fic I’m planning out that has found siblings and I’m sharing it with my own found sibling. A and B are innately linked together, both tied together by a malevolent cosmic entity using them both as tools to try to cast the world into oblivion; neither of them are aware of this. A grew up an outcast in his otherwise tight-knit community, being physically and socially abnormal. Ignored and isolated, he talked to the shadows on the walls, and they talked back. He was seen as a bad omen, and proved that to be true when he lost control of his powers due to the influence of the aforementioned malevolent being and caused a calamity getting him exiled completely. B grew up in a horrid and cruel society and a family that abused them relentlessly. They had sexist standards drilled into them and were taught that they’d never have influence or worth unless they could seduce someone in power or be strong enough to take power by force. Their culture gave them no one who would be kind to them and taught them kindness and vulnerability were weaknesses that would be exploited. They had no one to turn to, but when they were completely alone they would whisper to the shadows on the wall, and they would talk back. Eventually the malevolent being spoke to them in their mind and guided them away from the place they came from, freeing them from those people, but not from their ideologies. A and B have known each other from childhood, linked through the darkness despite their distance, but neither recognize the other as the “imaginary friend” they spoke to before when they finally meet in person. B is cruel to A in their first meeting, viewing the emotionally open kindness A shows as a weakness that they exploit because that’s what’s supposed to happen. When A is distraught, C comforts him despite being a total stranger, and upon discovering what happened C threatens the life of B if they hurt A like that again. I’m still unsure how to bridge the gap between A and B to reach the found sibling bond I imagine them ending up with. I see B betraying the group in some way and A deciding that is the last straw because he doesn’t care if B treats him terribly but he will not allow anyone to hurt the only other people who’ve been his friends. A calls B out for being terrible and forces them to see the hypocrisy of upholding the standards they tried so hard to escape from and finally feel guilt for once. Though neither of them are aware, it’s likely the subconscious recognition of A as the only friendly thing they had in their horrible childhood that makes B able to actually listen to A’s message and reflect. Despite it all, A is willing to forgive B as they work to change themself. Bound by fate and darkness, they’ve always been by each other’s side even when they didn’t want to be. When the time comes to face the Night that has twisted them to suit its goals, they will venture into the dark together stronger than ever before.

im writing a teen romance story in which one, is a bloodthirsty killer who loves people in the way where theyre super weird and talk about organs and stuff to them, the other, has never been properly in love with anyone and doesnt know how to love people. so the bloodthirsty killer becomes sweeter and the one that doesnt know how to love people begins to love people like how the other character did.

Arranged marriage/fake engagement where it's made for money or protection by Character A but Character B is in love with A and is using the situation to court them. They know they're in love and want the other to feel the same.
I have the "diagram" situation in some of my stories, albiet not in normal office environments (I write fantasy stories so people are a lot more likely to walk in on extremely awkward lap sitting in more fantastical situations...) I've also had the occaisional platonic friendship jelousy situation pan out as well, though it tends to pop up more with mentor-student relationships than normal friendships. (Either the mentor feels worried the student found someone else that can teach them more, and they won't be needed and ulitimately be discarded, or a student is scared that someone else might steal all their mentor's attention and they'll be discarded.) Also. Almost ALL of my couples are awkward messes - especially the ones with sauve flirty people in it for some reason...also have a giant pile of Menace to Society X Living Moral Compass...and a lot of "You're scary, but I'm scarier - you don't know that yet.." Also the jaded person suddenly having to deal with things like FEELINGS and LOVE and absolutely hating it, is present in one of my favorite manga series which does it so well, and I love that trope a lot, and I'm SURE I've used it in at least one of my storylines, but I can't think of any off the top of my head, so suddenly I'm wondering if maybe I HAVEN'T USED IT even though it's one of my favorites... 0.0

this is james potter and sirius black for me! they're always portrayed as best mates with the utmost respect and love for each other, and i love that. 😼
in fact, i need MORE of that.
I have two characters that clearly care for each other and always are around each other like the idea you presented
They both date other people.
They have seen the best and worst of each other and in the pain there is so much yearning and God if they just talked it out and kissed they'd never let go of each other again-

one of my male main characters has suffered through the abuse of his ex-wife and meets another woman, who immediately falls for him. but he rejects her again and again, due to his relationship-trauma, he still didn't get over, even after years.
and his story will end with...
the main character and the woman NOT being together, because the woman learned to respect his boundaries and accepted that she can't just "kiss away" his mental scars. but they became good friends.
The Protagonist didn't fully heal from his trauma YET, but learned how to deal with it better.
it's basically supposed to be a counter to this trope: "this troubled guy was a monster, until this BEAUTIFUL WOMAN changed him into a literal puppy~"

What?
Nuzi:
This one is absolutely rampant in my writing
Two characters beating each other in to a pulp and then just laying down on the floor and talking everything out while still in pain and bleeding, be it platonic or romantic, makes me go absolutely feral.
I like enemies to lovers and all (specifically enemies to friends to lovers) but what REALLY does it for me is enemies to best friends, especially when, from the outside, it seems like they still hate each other. It’s funny and can be really sweet at the same time. ‘I used to want to kill you, and sometimes I still do, but if anything bad happened to you I’d immediately fix the problem through incredibly violent measures, sometimes even without laughing at you first.’
At the same time though, just flat out ‘enemies’ is good too. I love it when characters hate each other and express it outwardly
Did someone say Trevor and Alucard (Castlevania)?
And they solve it with a polycule!
My (basic-ass) favourite relationship dynamics.
*Romantic*
-Little Miss Perfect (with some Hurt/Comfort)
-Single Woman Seeks Good Man
-Dumbasses. An airport's worth of baggage.
*Platonic*
-Boy and girl that have no romantic feelings for each other; they're just silly and goofy together
-Found Family
-Gay dude & lesbian
Omg gay dude and lesbian being inseparable best friends and also being a wingman for the other (I didn't even realize I was doing this in a story I'm currently writing)
@@molasses3850 You. You get me.
The best dynamic I even seen is
"I hate you because I fear you and deshumanize you in my head, see you as a monster that will end my life. Yet deep down I can see how you're just a human like me and I care about you even if I'm not aware of it" and "Your actions have hurted me and I have also deshumanized you yet I still know you're a human being I can't understand but I want to understand and get along"
And yet both are fundamentally the same, hurted by the same people that made him hate each other in the first place.
Like they’ll feed each other and sit in each other’s laps and call each other endearments and flirt but nobody knows whether they’re joking or not
Bonus points if they’re gay
Bonus bonus points if one has been deeply in love with the other for the entirety of their friendship, and the other is oblivious
One of my fav tropes is two characters who pretend they hate each other but all their arguments have romantic undertones and everyone except themselves know they like each other
These are my favourite more platonic relationships tropes that I wish to see more:
-Some kind of big scary monster or abomination out of this world actually being a doting and caring parent to any children,or basically any person
-Person thinking that they are the most baddest villian ever-ends up adopting a bunch of kids and being the best parent that they can be to them, even if they didn't planned it in the first place
-Or Person A that is very energetic and always seek adventures with trouble & Person B,who is more laid back and relaxed always watching over Person A to make sure they're okay
-Can't forget the:Everyone thinks they are dating, but they are just very close friends

A dynamic I really like but haven’t really seen is tsundere x chaotic menace to society x calm happy quiet one
In order: Mushitaro Oguri, Ranpo Edogawa, Edgar Allen Poe. The group is platonic but Poe has an embarrassingly huge crush on Ranpo
My Romance Dynamics:
> "Me and the bad bitch I pulled by being autistic" with the genders reversed.
HELP I BARELY PAID ATTENTION TO THE VIDEO BECAUSE I LOVED TALKING TO THE PEOPLE IN THE LIVE CHAT BUT THE VIDEO WAS 10/10 LOVED IT

Enemies to lovers? No
Lovers to enemies to rival to best friends
Like they loved eachother, but something happened and they became enemies, always at each other's throat, but then the angers starts to dicipate and becomes a form of respectful rivalry which leads to them becoming best friends, not lovers, but best friends, always there for each other
Also another great one:
Enemies to reluctant allies to "two who love eachother, but they know that they are better off alone than together"
A relationship which always leads to a bittersweet ending, after all, they were enemies once upon a time, and depending on how much they hurt eachother in that time, they would never work well as lovers
I love the dynamic "yeah, we're probably gay and in love, but we gotta get through the horrors together first"
I greatly approve of 0:45 - the only thing funnier than a couple getting caught being soft and getting all flustered is a couple getting caught being soft and being matter-of-fact about it.
"Oh, hey so-and-so, I've got the info you needed."
"Uh, thanks? ...Isn't that... Distracting?"
"No, I'm helping!" "A little, but nothing I can't handle."

Oh.

This trope can be platonic or romantic but the trope where character A thinks no one loves them and thinks they aren’t good enough and character B would kill someone for character A
Enemies/Rivals/Etc to lovers dancing together is so fun. -Catradora-
princess prom lives in my head rent free, that tensionnnn
oh this video makes me so happy TT I'm a huge sucker for romance and cliches but I've also come to learn that one of my favorite platonic pairings is "i will always be your little shit
One troupe i would love to see is something i call "The Crow and The Wolf"
The Crow is Very Smart, maybe a bit manipulative/evil, openly threatening does the talking for the both of them, and is technically The Wolf's boss (and the leader of a group), but cares very deeply about The Wolf and trusts them more tahn anyone else.
Im the strangers to friends to lovers person and im surprised you didnt add the addition of that post of "while everyone is losing their shit over the fact that they're friendly to one another" lmao
Also seeing that old post come up while i was drawing to listening to the video shocked me so much LMAO honored to be here 😂
Character that usually stands out because of how strong they are suddenly becomes the voice of reason around their eccentric partner/best friend who is somehow stronger than them
Super niche one that i forced in my hcs creating an oc just for this: guy buying questionable items at the local supermarket (possible harm to himself or others) + the casheer(omg idk how to spell that word sorryyy) who basically kidnaps him until the end of her shift so she can make sure he's not a massive threat (then they become besties :3)
Two of my main OCs fit the Knight in shining armour (girl) and Damsel in distress (boy) dynamic. I love it so much.
So I’m in my Fairly OddParents phase and I started specifically gravitating toward exploring what Trixie Tang and Timmy could mean to each other and I would like to add something to 2:04
Where is the pair of gender kids who found solace in each other’s willingness to be themselves around each other even if everywhere else and to everyone else they remain closeted?
and that understanding never dulled Timmy’s crush but made it ultimately less important than just the act of being there for Trixie and Trixie catches feelings, but never enough nor at the right time to act on them and it’s ok because Timmy’s not going and anywhere and neither is Trixie and it’s not sibling vibes because there’s still a mutual crush, but those romantic feelings hold no candle to the mutual commitment to remain there for each other even as they get romantic partners and start to settle down with them instead.
Also fun fact about my headcanon versions of them:
Trixie sometimes goes by Trevor, (at first it was to have a consistent cover story when interacting with the Cashier at the comic book store, but it became something that he oddly looked forward to before realizing she was bigender)
Timmy is a trans boy who wished to be a boy the first chance he got and Timantha, while entirely unwelcome initially, reminded Timmy that he also has girly interests and being able to do both, instead of forcing himself to reject feminine stuff because he doesn’t want to be a girl, is better for him.
There’s quite a few other posts that fit them impeccably, but I think that 6:05 is best seen as Wanda wrangling her boys.
How about lovers to friends?
But like, not in the awkward "I thought I felt this way about you, but I don't. I'm sorry"
"But we can still be friends, right?"
"... Sure"
But like
"I'm sorry, but I don't love you"
"Nah dude, it's fine. I actually don't feel that way about you, either. I thought I did. But turns out I don't"
"Oh, cool"
"Wanna go to Denny's, as friends?"
"Sure!"
But then again, I'm aroace. So...
I recently noticed, that (apparently) my favouret ship dynamic is:
Person B: fucking around constantly
Person A: tired of person B's shit (affectionate)
Bonus point if theres a constant stream of banter between the two XD
God watching this and I’m just getting so many thoughts on my OC OTP… love it
10:29 The Mountain Goats: WRITE THAT DOWN WRITE THAT DOWN
Ok but that first one literally described the plot of toy story.
I would say the one around the 4:30 mark is Steve Trevor and Wonder Woman but Steve isn't dumb. He's just really in love with Diana
6:05 Reminds me of Lord of the Flies I’m sorry 😭😭
If the ship has anything in common with Julia x Carmen (Carmen Sandiego 2019) I will go FERAL over that shit. Bonus points if one has anything relating to religious trauma
That first one is literally Luca
15:37
paintbrush and lightbulb 👀
one trope that keep popping up with my stuff is
A to B "WHY ARE YOU LIKE THIS"
B to A "get that stick outta your ass"
but somehow they end up together and nether knows how
A found family dynamic with a parent-like figure and their basically adopted child? Sure, why not?
BUT ONE OF THEM IS ROUGE ROBOT WHO LEARNS ABOUT MORALS AND STUFF FROM THE OTHER DOESN’T CARE THE OTHER IS A FREAKING CAPABLE OF MUDER ROBOT AND JUST TREATS THEM WHOLESOMELY??? HECK YES!!!!
Ah.... A "Detroit: Become Human" fan.
forget enemies to lovers or friends to lovers
WHERE MY FRIENEMIES TO LOVERS!?
@@aceofspades8474 bro i have ocs with the dynamic!
it wasn't what i was going for but this
10:51 as much as i love pynch this is what Ronan and Kavinsky were in the raven cycle and i love them for it... they were the worst but in such a hot way. that final fight between their dreams? that's love. rotten and toxic, but THAT'S LOVE.
I love how so many of these can apply to Cyclonus and Tailgate from Transformers IDW. Love it!
Evil Supervillain whose signature personality trait is being evil / Neutral cold being who just goes along with it + Bonus point if they're their henchman / partner in crime.
Tbh villain x villain is always on top
(They are just friends / aquaintances though, they are nowhere close to act like lovers, I don't like romance. I fantasize about them being lovers because their interactions are perfect, if they where lovers their personality would come across as unidentifiable)
I think my top three absolute favourite dynamics, romantic or platonic, are:
1. Character who desperately needs a hug but refuses to admit it / Character who gives the best hugs
2. Loud character who will talk on and on about something for long periods of time (bonus points if it’s some kind of strategy or evil scheme) / Quiet character who just listens to them and offers their supportive feedback
External disaster x internal disaster is just mike/ness from movieverse fnaf
11:31 This is usually how I write Ferriswheelshipping now. Like, Touko finds N an interesting person and likes hanging out with him, and N finds her equally fascinating, but they're on opposite sides of the "ethics of Pokémon training" argument and, even pretty early on, they know it. It's a lot of debating and swapping viewpoints and Pokémon battling, but there's also the quiet, civil moments that make them both wonder, what if we could be like this all the time? Why do we have to fight? And yet they're both equally stubborn people whose ideas are seemingly irreconcilable.
OMG! I was just checking this out and I noticed myself at 6:07! So cool! Thanks for including me in the video!
The last one.... Lunav!!!! Luna is the banana and Donnie the fancy outfit
one of the trope that i like is more situational.
so character a is just this weak, brittle person who never held a sword or gun or anything (bonus if there is trauma including the weapon).
and person b is the great warrior, the chosen one or something.
so it's like the end, and their fighting the big bad. character b is on the ground, sword away, and has no fight left. the villain monologues, bfore trying to kill b until a grabs the sword and defends b.
i really like it.
you can tell that REvelations 2 is one of my favorite game.
Honestly, go with more bestie tropes. My best friend is my therapist, big sister figure, and partner in crime. like, "we're-on-run-from-the-fbi" kinda partner in crime. but it doesn't mean romance. it's just us... causing chaos... holding hands... and cuddling. I'm VERY touch-starved and she doesn't mind when I hug her. I love her so much.
I’m going to try to put some of my characters with the regal x banana dynamic (listed in that order of regal first then banana, romantic unless specified otherwise).
Leon x Lance
Tempora x Tiatheran
Sabqualyn + Ghin (platonic/familial, can be swapped depending on scenario)
Lortar x Ghin
Pacifica x Grash (qpr)
Valeria x Vani
Valeria x Grash
Donaar x Grutok
Donaar x Grash
Devon/Dveahtehs x Tim (can be reversed)
8:32 OOH OOH THIS ONE! THIS ONE! THIS IS THE BEST ONE IN THIS VIDEO!! AND IT COULD FIT MY FAV SHIP WITHOUT COMPLETELY CHANGING THEM WITHOUT CHANGING EVERYTHING ABOUT THEM!
My favorite dynamic is schemer x berserker. They question each others methods but respect the results.
Obviously traumatized, very cynical, jaded character with happy, optimistic bean character that’s repressing even MORE trauma
Childhood friend that really love the MC, yet can't be with them due to the hardships life throws at them
Only to end in a show of strenght that tell the MC that there was always someone there to help them, at the same time that friend learns they can stnd on their own, feeling worth of being side to side with MC
I like the two characters who are "more than just friends, but not dating" they're completely normal with flirting, kissing, cuddling, etc. and are aware the other is in love, but NEVER date . EVER. Why? Idk i guess out of spite or smth ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Some found siblings in a fanfic I'm making with my own found sibling
A has been traumatized and never really had a childhood.
@@aceofspades8474 oo, that sounds absolutely amazing!
@@Thepeopleinmybrainloveyou Thank you so much, I’ve been wanting to get work done on this fic but ADHD is making it a painfully slow process. Your kind words really mean a lot, I kinda felt it would sound silly written out like that but I’m glad you find it interesting, it’s motivating to see that my self indulgent work really would have an audience out there.
@aceofspades8474 It absolutely would, and don't worry, no matter how long it might take you to get it all into words, you have my support. I'm sure it will be absolutely incredible!
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR INCLUDING JOHNNY AND SONYA I'M IN TEAR RN THEY ARE THE PERFECT COUPLE FOR THAT TROPE AND I MISSED THEM SO MUCH
9:41 "but this is the first time i've felt this way with a man😏"
The first trope is basically toy story
im writing a teen romance story in which one, is a bloodthirsty killer who loves people in the way where theyre super weird and talk about organs and stuff to them, the other, has never been properly in love with anyone and doesnt know how to love people.
so the bloodthirsty killer becomes sweeter and the one that doesnt know how to love people begins to love people like how the other character did.
3:17 taking notes for my story thank you very much
I am in love with-
A: * messed up morals, the villain "but for good reasons", doesn't know how love works and makes love potion to get B to feel the same about A *
B: * secretly loves A, too shy to ask out A *
A: * gives love potion to B * I love you, and soon you, B, will feel the same way! * loving, evil laugh *
B: * love potion kicked in * Y'know, *love (A),* I did love you, but now that you've given me that love potion, I want to *kiss* you and *kill* you, *marry* and *maim* you, *dream about* and *dissect* you. I absolutely *hate* you... but oh, how I just *love* you.
A: * a frightened, flustered, blushing mess * * from 😍😈 to 😱😵💫 to 😈🥴💘within the span of 2 minutes *
(+if B is usually mute)
(++if both have trauma/traumatic backstories)
DL;DR
A believes themselves to be good, but is a terrible person and makes love potion for B.
B hates and loves A with a passion and makes A regret making love potion, but only for a sec.
I love friends to enemies. That’s what I’m writing about right now
Arranged marriage/fake engagement where it's made for money or protection by Character A but Character B is in love with A and is using the situation to court them.
Almost ALL of my couples are awkward messes - especially the ones with sauve flirty people in it for some reason...also have a giant pile of Menace to Society X Living Moral Compass...and a lot of "You're scary, but I'm scarier - you don't know that yet.."
Also the jaded person suddenly having to deal with things like FEELINGS and LOVE and absolutely hating it, is present in one of my favorite manga series which does it so well, and I love that trope a lot, and I'm SURE I've used it in at least one of my storylines, but I can't think of any off the top of my head, so suddenly I'm wondering if maybe I HAVEN'T USED IT even though it's one of my favorites... 0.0
Last one is Sashamilla (Psychonauts), Sasha is the elegance, Milla is the banana. Also, the awkward first relationship? Moralliday (Ready Player One)
