Meanwhile, the manga isn't afraid of literally showing you those dark events as early as the Lavander Town chapter- you literally see pokemon's corpses suffering to move and dying all over again. They also take themes of kidnapping (both pokemon and kids), abusing pokemon, terrorism, etc. more seriously, as well as making pokemon with dark pokedex entries actually act and do creepy stuff. It's still targeted for small kids so they make sure to not get too carried away though. Still a fun read since the characters are given more life than the games/anime. [mild spoiler] edit: I forgot, the best example IMO is Lillie's manga counterpart. In the game, she just mentioned Lusamine's a horrible mom. In the anime, Lillie has a completely different background who has a fairly close relationship with her mother. Meanwhile, in the manga, you literally see Lillie break down, cry, and faint from PTSD due to Lusamine's controlling and abusive behavior (which you see through flashbacks).
I really wish they went the hardcover route too! I haven’t read the manga but it’s intrigued me for a while and this is likely enough for me to finally pick them up. Thanks for the review!
I have all 53 volumes (The main series),all 12 XY volumes,all Omen Ruby,Alpha Sapphire volumes, and 6 of the Sun and Moon books. The first book in the series was Diamond and Pearl vol.1. The series is awesome and I wish this will become an anime

But I recently bought volumes 6-10 of the collectors edition (had to buy the individual volume 15 separately ^^) and its sooo pretty. I'm really hoping they continue to do these collectors editions, especially for the Diamond Pearl Platinum and Black White story arcs
Just recently set my first couple volumes out on my doorsteps for (hopefully) some kid to grab after organizing. Very nostalgic about this series. Maybe I'll re-up for this upgrade.
I am currently reading Chapter 10 (Black/White) from vol.43, and I'm impressed of how it is really different from the anime. I also noticed how the Viz covers differed from the SA versions we have especially my sister and I got RGB 1 and 2 last year. I honestly liked the interlocking art of the SA version of the RGB compilations.

Question: I have like 12-14 issues of VIZ COMICS Pokemon released in 2000 or so in boxes...they were all 4 issue mini series in B&W. "Electric Pikachu Boogaloo" and "The Electric Tale of Pikachu" etc... what were those? Americanized versions of these? I remember they all had like 4th and 5th printings back in the day when Pokemon was red hot.
The electric tales of pikachu is a Pokémon manga more base off the anime also it was heavily censored in that us because the artist was hentia manga artist but it is really good with four volumes

Ember Reviews just clarified things about this books 📚 and it’s disappointing: if you own the original printings, don’t bother with this set then. If you never read them before, go ahead and get it now, just don’t expect much of them...this should not be considered collectors editions 😒

Ugh I can't people I never invested in Pokémon Adventures. I read a little of Diamond & Pearl Platinum and the first volume of Black and White and I liked those.
Just order vol 1-3 I saw they have like 7 volumes of these coming out till 2021 I really hope they do all the books they have in this paper and the other region pokemon stories also it would be sweet if they did this

The collectors edition consists of volumes 1-29. Here are the pokemon adventures story arcs in order: RGBY (1-7), Gold Silver Crystal (8-15), Ruby Sapphire (15-22), FireRed LeafGreen (22-26), Emerald (26-29), Diamond Pearl Platinum (1-11), HeartGold SoulSilver (1-2), Black White (1-9), Black2 White2 (1-4), X Y (1-6)(currently being re-released, they were originally sold as 12 mini volumes), OmegaRuby AlphaSapphire (1-6 mini volumes), Sun Moon(1-12 mini volumes), and Sword Shield (1-6 mini volumes) ^^

Some say it's better than individual volumes and with a better image, but others say it's poorer quality and the pages are too see-through. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ To a newcomer like me, the collector's editions are appealing for cost (compared to box sets which are $80-$90 each), but I still prefer whichever is best quality. I've heard the spine can break easily on some omnibuses.
@Tom The Fish Part of it is due to the comics being released weekly as opposed to monthly. One Piece for example started in 1997 and is already closing in on volume 100/chapter 1000! Lack of color also helps keep costs down. For example a 600 page manga omni (those 3in1 books) is like $15-$20 where as a 600 page omni from Marvel or DC is $100-$150.

They did it first with this Pokemon "collectors edition", and they are doing it again with the Rumiko Takahashi Mermaids Saga, they announced it in february as "gorgeous deluxe volumes" and yesterday they revealed the cover and is getting the same pokemon treatment! This is not collectors edition at all, it's so frustrating and underwhelming.
The most upsetting part of this new addition is that the original arc is 7 volumes and these are 3 volumes omnis. So you’d have to get the 3rd book to finish this arc which would then start the 2nd arc following Gold. They should have fit the 7 volumes into 2 books.

Loved this series as a kid. It's much darker than the anime/cartoon featuring Ash. The ruby and sapphire arc was super awesome as well 👍

That was another series. I believe Viz released those in a separate book too.

There's at least one spelling mistake in these and the pages are thin so you can see through to the other side. They're also quite heavy.

Yeah. Each has 3. You'll be missing the last volume of the yellow arc if you only get these two but you're getting the first 6 of the RBGY arc.
I'm definitely picking these up! I also have some pokemon cards collected. And ofc, there is a lot more to collect of pokemon and other anima/manga.
