      @MikkoRantalainen 3 роки тому +4

      I agree. However, I would have liked a better stock video to be used for all that effort. Maybe consider taking such a clip with your wife next time you need something like that? Compared to the amount of work 3D tracking the video + manual rotoscoping requires, it wouldn't be bad to shoot the clip from local supermarket.
      Maybe ask the store owner if they're okay for you to use a green screen background for a moment which would reduce the manual rotoscoping to minimum. I've been thinking about different 3D tracking + green screen implementations and I think a green screen with light green tracker markers would be a pretty nice solution. I think you could get Blender to track the light green markers from green background and use chroma key to remove the background so there would be very little need for manual painting or lining.

    • @dmbadcat
      @dmbadcat 3 роки тому +2

      @@MikkoRantalainen < has the right idea--
      if you get permission to film in the store, you could easily set up custom tracker markers that would take a few minutes to put in and likely save you a few "hours of editing" minus the photoshop
      -- but imagine if you asked your followers to help you with the photoshop?
      "Hey viewers, here's a link to several high res photos of my lock -- and the task: Whoever makes the best box-art for this fake product will get featured in my video!"
      -- and with that you've spent zero hours on the photoshop as well as gotten community involvement. Nothing wrong with that!

    Shane is exactly right, this isn't a competition. This is what happens when engineering meets expertise. Their collaborated efforts could lead to a design or at least basic concept of how to really create a lock that is "unpickable". Even if it they do not take it to market, it could be patented and lead to an actual company (not a dude in his basement, no offense, Shane you're a genius) trying to make something that he has literally no history or affiliation with. Love these BTS vids, cool look at how much work you put in besides all the engineering and conceptual aspects.

    Because the conversion is multiplying by 25.4 instead of dividing, which saves a ton of round off error pain.

    Re units: I've been learning Julia. One of the core features of the language is dynamic multiple dispatch, like Common Lisp and Dylan before it. There's a units library for it that basically allows for all of the language's mathematical operators (overloaded via multiple dispatch) to work with unit tagged quantities and do dimensional analysis and automatic units conversion.

    Small chance you see this but fellow Mechanical Engineer here that has also experience CAD goggles many-a-times:
    eDrawings has an option to Open in VR. If you have a VR headset (would recommend the Quest 2 at this point) and Steam VR, you can really easily view your CAD in VR. You will need to make an assembly and put your object on a table or something if is super small otherwise you will have your fist sized lock sitting on the ground (non-ideal unless you feel like looking at your CAD while laying down, lol).
    Overall it works pretty well for stationary stuff but does still have some limitations such as not being able to pick up your entire assembly at once.

We started probably a few months before you released your first lock design video and had initially had similar ideas to you for the locking mechanism. Unfortunately we ended up spending most of our time working on issues outside of pick resistance which led our final model to be a poor innovation that wasn't fully fleshed out. Well done sir. Definitely worth the wait. Three vids in one day. Plus hints at a sequel and another reaction vid.
    Definitely worth the wait.

    I just want to say that I heard your dog barking on LPL's video before watching your part 2 on the lock and it was so funny to just hear faint barking in the distance whenever he rung the doorbell. Well done on the lock and great job on that decision, it's a riot. xD

    The metal gear sound when the dog looks up was so cute, I had to rewatch it several times

    I liked watching both you making the locks, and LPL picking them. A key (pun intended) factor to consider is that he usually knows what type of lock he's dealing with (not always), so has an idea of how he's going to be challenged.
