My husband took these trips with our two boys. Priceless! They are 26 and 30 now. Fine young men that we are so proud of! Yes, Justin, quite the treasure...ALL of the years. Good job, dad. Keep up the good work. Jonah is a fine young man and a hard worker!

My husband served on the Yorktown. He assisted in the Apollo landing. He also was on the ship when the Pueblo men were freed. Please take time and appreciate what our military does for us. Happy Memorial weekend.

First, my respect to your husband and his fellow service members. As a Canadian, I have always had respect for our military. Secondly, thank you ma'am, I can only imagine the strength needed to be supportive as a spouse.. lastly, how incredible that he was there to assist in the Apollo process!! Space is a wonder to me since I was a young lady

Makes me think of the trip to Colorado when my mom told me it was my time to sit in the front seat and be her navigator. We weren't alone, Momma didn't have enough money to take us each on our own trip. From that day forward, I was her navigator until 2001, when I took her on a trip in my car. What memories your trip has invoked!

I remember thinking that same thing one day with my son. He was maybe 9 and I realized he hadn’t sat on my lap
In quite awhile. I called him over and patted my lap. Very quizzically he looked at me snd sat down. I just hugged him so tight. I m so happy I did that! He’s 37 now and I definitely remember the last time he sat on my lap!

My precious grandson is 17. We lost his Dad, my only child, this past October. My grandson will still come and sit in my lap and share videos and music, but now he puts most of his weight on the chair arms. I remember when his Dad was young and I used to take his Dad's hand when we'd go places and one day, I guess he was around 12, he took my hand instead to guide me. He was never embarrassed to give me a hug or kiss. I treasure those precious memories. Our children grow so very fast. So happy Jona and Justin get this special time together to build a more in depth and adult relationship. What a treasure.

@@teresamariner4238 My son turned 29 in April and he has never been ashamed to hug me and kiss me in public! I sometimes stop by his job and he just comes over and hugs me. If I miss him at lunch his store manager will come over and give me a hug as a substitute. Some young men just know in their hearts what is really important. I am proud my son knows just as your grandson knows!!!

In the privacy of your home, or wherever they are comfortable, always be affectionate with your sons. My sons lost their Father to a brain aneurysm when they were very young. They have always said, I want to hug my Dad, I miss hugging my Dad. They have children of their own now, they hug all the time, even though they are adults now too.

That must have been such fun just hanging out with your boy! I remember when my kids were at school, I went on a Mother-Daughter camp where we absailed ( we are an adventurous lot) and also a Mother-Son camp and my son and me were the first 2 on the zipline slide into a huge dam. I was a single mom so it was great that I had an opportunity to spend those weekends with them individually. On my son's camp our group's raft we built also won the competition as everyone else's fell apart but we had a triangular one as that is a very rigid shape and we won by far. Great memories, cherish them

When our boys were 8, 10 and 12 were took a month long trip from Ontario Canada to Vancouver Island going through some of the States. I didn't have internet back then so it took me a year of mailing each community we were driving through to get all the information necessary to have the best vacation ever. Mostly camping with a few hotels thrown in for rest and a change from putting up tents. It was awesome and we cherish the memories. I think everyone needs to do something special with their children to build lasting memories and relationships. I appreciate Justin sharing this time with his son. I hope it inspires others to do the same

I spent a year & a half in Jacksonville when I was growing up on the Eastern coast of Florida in my youth. My parents - mostly mom only - took me all up & down the east coast to see a lot of the forts and historic sites along the coast. Plus we went all over the State , like to the Springs and to Tampa, etc, as well. I’m 62 now & I have great memories of these trips.

Justin I love the sentiment but to me these are times for just you and Jonah. I get it, it’s your job but that’s kind of the point, to be with your son not on the clock or worrying about having enough footage.
Me and my dad used to fish and turn our phones off. Those are memories for me and him, that I’ll never forget. As always love the video just food for thought if you felt the need to show us.

If you liked the North Carolina you should come up the road a bit and check out the New Jersey, another WWII era battleship. The second most decorated ship in the US Navy and our most decorated battleship. Bigger, faster, more hp, better armor, better guns, better defended, more lethal, modernized to 1990s standards, and extremely historic. She was nuclear armed, and you can sit in the chair where they could launch nuclear weapons. Awesome and terrible by their most literal definitions. An amazing experience. Across the river in Philadelphia is the WWII era submarine Becuna, and the oldest remaining steel ship afloat, the 19th century Cruiser Olympia. Olympia is 132 years old and the most famous American ship of her era. Amazing tours.

Really cool! Thanks for sharing this with us Justin. My husband likes to "rough up" his boys. He tries to step on their feet and they are too quick or he rubs their head. They are 16 and 17 years old now. Almost out of the house! He has help on the farm too. Mostly they help him manage the trees we have fall every winter. Picking up branches and sticks help too so he can mow without dulling the blade from all the tree liter. Thanks for showing this Justin. it looked like a lot of fun for you and Jonah.

I always knew my grandfather was a cook... then as I grew older I found out it was during the second world war. I then further my knowledge to discover more details. He was a cook at a hidden supply dispatch in a small out port here in my province, not too far from where I currently live. I found out the location, and directions, and I set upon the journey of discovering the area.
It was an underground masterpiece!! The cavern had a main tunnel that had rooms branched off which you can tell were barracks with a tiny hole in the wall where the men had a fire to stay warm. Another room was obviously the kitchen, a huge fireplace and a wall fire oven... the black soot stained walls were the clear indicators. The air tunnels above for light and fresh air were covered with bars for protection and mini fences outside for tourists. The main front had the mounts of canons. There are two. This is all set in the the hill side, very well hidden. They were set here because there were submarines from across the world that would come into our little bays. I dare not say the country in these days, BUT my husband's grandmother saw one of these submarines surface in our community's own port and she watched the men walking across the top of it. She told him this story herself. Justin, we are your age. My profile picture are my grandchildren. We are hoping to make our own mini homestead one day. For now, a backyard, and indoor herb garden will suffice.
    Many blessings to you!!

History is amazing. We learn so much about where we came from. Be careful because so much more went into the civil war than what is taught in most of the books.
My children are all adults now and it still has not gotten easier. Once a parent you are always a parent and the job description changes and it is different but just as hard more mentally and emotionally at this point.

My oldest will be 10 this year. They grow up so fast. I just hope I have been the best mom to them

I bet you have! We are always harder on ourselves then our children are. If you love them and they know it that goes a long way!
