  • Mattel released a brand new Barbie that represents someone with Down syndrome. We are already seeing the impact that representation is having on children in the Tampa Bay area. Sophia Sullivan, 6, lives with Down syndrome. She smiled from ear to ear when she saw the new Barbie.

    I actually have a twin brother with down syndrome, so props to Barbie for doing this type of representation.

    The idea is amazing but apart from the eyes being at a slight angle, I don't feel the doll looks as it is had Downs. If I had just seen the doll and not been told, I wouldn't have known.

      I’m glad I’m not the only one. I was watching this on mute and didn’t realize that first picture was the Barbie with Down’s. I thought it was a normal Barbie.

      I'm so glad I got some support as I hesitated about posting in case people were offended, but I did feel like the little boy saying the emperor's got no clothes on 😀

    The doll looks exactly the same like any other Barbie doll... The eyes are slightly angled, just slightly, is the same as the others 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️

      The body proportions are completely different from the traditional Barbie doll tho. The nose is different too, they're shorter and thicker. You can tell what they're supposed to be, it's just hard to get more detailed for a cartoonish action figure. I bet if the American Girl dolls did the same thing, they would have more details since the face and body is bigger than a Barbie.

      Even the face proportions are different. Her face is wide and the eyes relatively small. To me, she looks like she is DS. Bear in mind that no real woman looks like the regular Barbie; she's more like a cartoon than a photograph.

      The doll's arms & legs aren't in proportion to the body shape of a person with DS

    I bought one not long after the Barbie Movie came out.being associated with Down Syndrome South Australia via my work,dance classes and life education classes makes me proud to own one.Proud of Mattel who came up with the idea.But I found it insulting when someone started making a Being unhappy about why they are not happy to look like the DS Barbie.

    Now, THIS is the type of inclusion that we SHOULD be focused on! This is absolutely awesome! Props to you, Matel, for not going woke! Let's pray it remains that way, and they continue to focus their barbies on REAL LIFE issues and not issues that people cause in their OWN life!

    • @Lichan11
      @Lichan11 Рік тому +2

      Just LISTEN to yourself. So it's okay as long as the inclusion is something YOU understand? I didn't know the world revolved around you and your "comfort". Why shouldn't EVERYONE feel included? HUH? Would you like to feel excluded? Are they ALL not children? So you're okay with walking up to a trans kid and telling him he shouldn't exist and that there will BE NO DOLLS FOR YOU! Are you the barbie Nazi now?

    This may appear sweet but what's next for Barbie? A trans LGBTQS2+ doll with a gender or binary and fluid gender affirming certificate? See where all this politically correct doll making is going? The little girl would've been equally happy with any Barbie doll. As long as the parents teach her she's beautiful, she doesn't need a stupid doll to tell her this.

    • @NC4E

      Politically correct doll making? There’s no comparison between Down syndrome and someone’s choice you can have an opinion on.

    • @elizabethpodest2759
      @elizabethpodest2759 Рік тому +6

      Um, Mattel did make a trans barbie like last year. They also made a boy with makeup, and then there were the creatable world dolls... where the doll could be a boy or girl. It came with wigs... super cute. My daughter liked them.

      Down syndrome has nothing to do with politics or sexuality. Some little girls love having dolls that look like them. That’s all there is to it
