yeah.
okayokayokay, so this song is about my fear of the apocalypse. i don't know how to explain better than my description that i put on bandcamp, so:
"this song is about my fear of apocalypses. within the fiction of the song's world, actually, an apocalypse (caused by poor management of the world's resources, climate change due to poor management of the world's industry, etc) already happened. the song is about a more deliberate culling of the herd, and the rebellion against that. the rich have taken their resources and fled to their safe havens, and those less fortunate are deemed to die- there's too many people on this earth, so the best way to replenish our resources is to kill most of its population, right?
...it's a bit extreme. i don't believe this is ever going to actually happen, but an apocalypse is an apocalypse, and the one i'm actually worried about is not necessarily so far off. i'd like to prevent or delay that one, if we could."

so i just realized!!!!! the reference to the clock striking midnight references the doomsday clock!! it "is a [metaphorical clock] for threats to humanity from unchecked scientific and technical advances" (taken from wikipedia). midnight symbolizes how close we are to a global catastrophe. the doomsday clock is evaluated again each year in January. a quick google search says that we are currently (from the time im typing this) **100 seconds away from reaching midnight.**

@@nostraightanswer The climate change issues and the already calculated risk of a pandemic (back in January, the possibility was already being thought about) got us a lot closer, sadly. :(
They just did the 2022 statement. The clock remains at 100 seconds to midnight, not moving forwards or backwards.
Out of all the specters so far, this one most resembles a nightmare.
The reference to “Bring Me Down” is perfect since this apocalypse is like many of the final battles found in video games: blood red sky, enemy at their strongest, and you are the last hope for the world.
It’s creepy to think how such extremes could have too much in common with our own reality.
