When did this whole "white people should stick to white food" trend start anyways. I mean I'm in Canada and I hear it all the time. And its not even just food, the university of Ottawa last year had a yoga class for people with disabilities that got cancelled, and the teacher got fired, for "cultural appropriation". I mean I get that western yoga is an exercise routine eh, and not really a religious thing anymore, but from all the research I did it seems that Yoga was intentionally exported to North America by gurus in India to try and build greater respect for and knowledge of Indian culture. Just how did we get to the point where liberals and progressives (of which I consider myself one) are taking the same line as the KKK that cultures shouldn't mix. Furthermore isn't it really impossible at the end of the day to stop cultural mixing when you have different cultures living side by side for a long period. It just seems to me like the natural progression as different groups merge into a common identity, and isn't a common, cosmopolitan identity the goal at the end of the day. I mean maybe I'm missing some fundamental point on this, and I get the argument where one group is looked down on for something that another is applauded for, but I think the answer to that is to stop looking down on the one group, rather than to just ban groups of people from food, music, hair, etc.. It just seems to me that what some people are proposing is a bit too close to apartheid, particularly the crowd that wants to legislate what is and isn't cultural purity. And as for this chef, I mean I couldn't find the video, but from what I heard he wasn't being super insensitive, he was just saying how he understood Pho. Couldn't people have just been like "hey here's another way you might like to know about" rather than trying to ruin his career and reputation.
