Hi Emma, we LOVE your video and you very kindly name-checked us. So, firstly, thank you! Secondly, I know your video is public, but we wanted to check officially whether you would have any objection to us blogging and publishing social media content about your video (with an embed and a link back to your channel or other link as preferred)? Hopefully it would help expand your own audience as well as be useful to our visitors. Would that be OK? Thanks again and kind regards, Mark at The Document Centre.
Good morning Emma - thanks again so much for allowing us to feature your wonderful video on our own blog and social media. This is a courtesy message to confirm that we've now done that and the main post is now live on our blog (www.document-centre.co.uk/blog/24032017161036-everything-you-want-to-know-about-binding-your-phd-thesis---video-/). If you spot anything you'd like us to change do, of course, please let us know. We have also tweeted about it and added posts on our Facebook and Google Plus profiles so let us know if you'd like links to those too. Going back to the main blog post, it has a little section about yourself as well as links to your Education UA-cam channel and Twitter ID. I hope it's all OK and *many* thanks again. Every good wish to you, from the whole team at The Document Centre, London :)
I had it done today Emma. Hardback PhD thesis in blue. I wanted to show you the photos but they did not fit in this text. Really a roller-coaster of feelings and emotions ran into my mind and heart. Proud of myself to have come this far to become a doctor. 💪🏻
Thanks -- I was confused about why you were binding before submission; we didn't have to bind the submission copy, only the final (corrected) version. Seems like a weird step to have to go through, since I'm sure your examiners don't need it all fancy to be able to read it.
Aven McMaster It is quite extravagant, isn't it?! And quite the additional expense. It's beginning to seem that it might be another quirk of the British system...

Oh, and, also, would it be possible to provide information about the situation of Classics in secondary education in the UK, whether there are links between researchers and high-school Classics teachers and efforts to promote Ancient Greek and Latin in schools or whether these are two different worlds ? (I know, I ask a lot hehehe).
theo polychronis What a great suggestion for a video! I will definitely look into it - I think that kind of topic would work best with multiple speakers, so I'll see if I can get some other people involved to share opinions from different perspectives within secondary and higher education. It might not appear until, say, September, but I'll definitely try to put something together.
Emma Cole Thanks a lot and worry not about timing, do it whenever you're free. The reason I'm suggesting this as a topic is that I was a bit surprised, when I was at the Fondation Hardt, to learn how very few links exist between secondary & higher education in the field of Classics in some countries (which is not the case in France), so I'm interested in learning more. For me research aims, among other things, at better understanding these civilisations so as to better teach them/make them relevant to today's world, because I am convinced that tragedy or historiography or epic can interest everyone and constitue easily readable texts without necessarily being a scholar. Take care :)
Thanks for this video (as for all the other ones, of course). In France, all that matters is the title page for which there is a specified format, but other than that, I don't think there are any strict requirements about binding, etc. I was wondering, by the way, would it be possible for you to make a video about what teaching position/contract you had at your Uni and what your prospects are, once you've successfully presented your work ? I'm asking, because, although I don't have to worry about money (I'm a high-school teacher, after having taught at uni level for a couple of years), my job hardly leaves any time for proper research and has obviously made finishing my dissertation longer and more difficult. Actually, the ministry of Education in France and the lack of recognition towards or help for PhD candidates who teach in schools and are not able to network/publish/attend conferences has been harshly criticised for some time now, in the same way that more and more people are criticising the fact that a PhD in France has no significative market value (as is the case in the UK or USA). I'm therefore open, for a number of reasons, to the idea of leaving France and interested in "how the system works" in other countries. You've actually inspired me to start a similar vlog, by the way : I just need to learn how to edit videos and overcome my camera shyness :-P
theo polychronis Thanks for the comment, Theo. I met another France-based PhD candidate at Fondation Hardt who also works as a high school teacher and heard all about how difficult it can to juggle both commitments from her. Finishing a PhD is never easy anywhere, but it sounds like it can be especially hard for some in France. My next two videos will be about the post-PhD job hunt, so hopefully they will answer your questions about the UK system! I talked about my teaching position at UCL in this video, but will address it more fully in the future: ua-cam.com/video/gC_K2HxIHIU/v-deo.html. In regards to starting your own vlog - definitely do it, and keep me posted when you begin! I made a video about the pros and cons of academic videos for Piirus here, which might be helpful: ua-cam.com/video/7eh7gZHBg_c/v-deo.html. The editing is not as hard as you'd imagine: I taught myself as I went!

Hi Mark, you're welcome, and that's fine - go ahead!
Thanks so much Emma - that's wonderful! We'll send you a link when it's all published! Best regards, Mark & the team at The Document Centre London.

Nothing about the contents of your hardback page? layout? suggestions?
