- Has anyone ever wondered if it was possible to beat the Monster Hunter games without dodging? Today we find that out in this challenge. This is also a shout-out to CantaPerMe for doing the Arch-Tempered Teostra run without evading/blocking as that video inspired the idea for this challenge.
Challenge Rules:
1. No dodging during a quest. Doing so forces a quest restart
2. No Using Defender or Guardian Equipment
3. You must play solo
4. No Glitches
5. To complete the challenge you must beat Xeno Jiiva

Yes. Back in MHP3rd I mained the Gunlance and used to just turtle my way through everything with max guard.

I didn't think nulberries cured fireblight but I do love my fair share of Wyvern Cheese :D
Nulberries cure blights which are elemental debuff like fire water thunder and dragon. While debuff that are in the ailment range like poison, blastblight, (i know that is a named blight its weird) sleep, and stun. Give it a try.

It took less than a week to do actually. There were mechanics that made the run a bit easier than I had anticipated but this was still challenging. It was a fun challenge to tackle though. 😄

Dodging is everything that makes me good in this game lmao. I mean timing your animations so that you can dodge in time too obviously, but man i dodge all the time.
It think this is doable with GS though. Hit and run is a pretty reliable strategy.
I disagree. The recovery animation on the greatsword is unbelievably long which is why you always have to cancel the animation with a dodge

I'm very surprised that he is able to do this, I would dodge so many time just due to muscle memory and reflexes, I won't be able to resist. Great job, it's a good video.
Hey just wondering why you didn.t use nullberies for fire and blastblight . Usually you can roll but nullberries also work . Also astera jerky gets rid of bleed and is very fast making it a non issue .

The great thing about the insect glaive, in my opinion, actually are the extra dodging options. You can vault up and also blow yourself through the air which is basically a dodging roll but with an extra step. Works to get towards the monster quickly, works to get away. It also has good range to keep the monster away a little and the right-click attack also works well as a technically-not-a-dodge dodge if times well. I used to use it for mobility all the time back when I didn't know about the vaulting part. I guess it makes sense, though, to choose a different weapon if you're not accustomed to the glaive and I'm not sure how many other glaive mains even see this the same way I do.
I'd imagine counter guard Lance builds will be the best way to do this challenge once you get a few points into guard, guard up, and stamina surge.

I'm honestly kinda surprised you didn't use hh. Considering how fast you are with basic bone horns self-improvement plus speed+evasion window bubble. It allows for ridiculously fast repositioning by running while unsheathed which you also later get with teostras orphee to use against vaal hazak

Another thing is getting fire resist over 20 prevents fire blight which is doable with the right gear and 3 fire res jewels, same holds true for blast, get 3 blast resist and you’re immune to blast blight. Hell could even go whole hog and just get blight resistance :p

Easy. I always forget about dodging and have beat the game multiple times with great sword, no I don't block either. Great video though, love to see how other people play the game differently.

I think personally dual blades trivialize this challenge, using the demon and arch demon B button attacks would be rather easy unless you'd count those as dodging

Nullberries do tue Trick when you’re on Fire, im pretty sure. Would’ve saved you some nerves with the anjanath.

You're supposed to do it on base game though.. no clutch claws =p.
Jokes aside, really good job there. Also you can probably pull it off easily using lance for base game monsters. A lot of the monster move sets don't got multi-hit attacks. So it's not as punishing if you just use counter when you see an attack coming.

Suggestion beat mhgu with using no stamina. Ie dashing, blocking, dodges, weapon attacks that drain stamina, and insect glaive vaults. Adept gaurds are exempted

I always apprecieate when they do not use the defender weapons in challenges.
Lance in my opinion seems the best because of the shield and countering
Since I'm not English, I always heard light bogan and thought, what monster is bogan so you can have his crossbow at the beginning of the game? Then I realized that it wasn't bogan, it was bowgun lol or at least it's the most meaningful word.

I know this is 2 months late but uhh I never dodge cause my first play of monster hunter I always get hit anyways

If you do that again you should disable the x button on the controller
Light bowgun is simply the best weapon, its not up for debate. Mobility? Yes. Damage? Yes. Versatility? Yes. Range? Yes. What is there not to like?!

Do iceborne but with a blocking weapon instead of The LBG. Be cool to see attacks i would normal dodge with Guard+ and such

I honestly cant help but feel like hunting horn would've been so much easier. You basically sprint with your weapon out and can stun lock. Dodging is hardly necessary as long as you dont play songs at bad times
6:14 I am pretty sure nullberries cure blast and fire blight
to be honest, using a ranged weapon for this goes against the spirit of the challenge a bit, because they are some of the weapons where dodging is the least required, I think. you're at range, and light bowgun & I think bow allow you to move while attacking. though is obviously wasn't a cakewalk with light bowgun, it'd be much more interesting to see this with a melee weapon, as it'd be extremely difficult, probably... unless you were to use shields.
though I guess for the sake of being able to complete the challenge in time, this was the better option.

As other people pointed out, this just yells out lance haha. I guess bowgun makes for a more entertaining video though

not a problem since long sword has a free out of jail move that has no penatly nor requires gauge to activate whatsoever

i think what he meant when he said "no dodging" was EVERY action with the X button, and both actions are perfomed by pressing exactly that.

That depends on the potential obstacles and limitations in potential armor sets to further optimize the run. It may actually harder to do which is why I'm requesting the 500 like goal.

Just use a weapon that can guard well
you do know that fireblight can be cured by nulberries, right? people just never do it because there's no reason, you can just roll instead of using a nulberry.
also, did you not know you can cure blastblight with nulberries? yes, you can, though I don't blame you for not knowing, it was only added in iceborne.

I use lance only and I never dodge, if I cant tank it then it's not a move in the game.
