I think this helps to connect both hemispheres of the brain. I remember something similar where you write the same thing with both hands at the same time to connect the left and right brain. It is also supposed to be good for tapping into memories as far back as past lives from what I remember.
I don't have the scientific know-how on this. All I do is create things and notice the energy as it is being done, sometimes by "accident" But one thing I can tell you is how it works on balancing the brain energy as well.
