Why I Quit Destiny 2 (for a couple months)

- Destiny 2 has been in a horrendous state for PvP mains for many years now. The cheater epidemic has only grown, the constant laggy state of the game and it's age are increasingly showing, and the terrible balance is readily apparent. All of these things and more led me to quit the game for a bit and today I want to talk about it with you all. I know it's hard to keep positivity with d2 as a whole but I really hope and I want the d2 community to be as supportive (even though that's hard) as possible. The ballence is hard and awful but I believe that they can make it great with good efforts. Again I want people to keep being positive because most of the developers want this game to succeed and I believe that but bungie is just a company focused on money before everything and they will keep pushing money before the happiness of the community and the player base.
I commend the dedication most of the devs have for the game. However it's clear that the ones that are in charge of the balancing for PvP are past their prime and causing nothing but strife. I feel for them that they had to deal with scumbag higher ups calling terrible shots but hopefully that phase is over with. I'm honestly just excited for sony to take full control and see what they can do with everything. It's just so apparent that new hands need to take the reigns to have a shot at saving anything.
@@RogerBlinksit’s weird too how much Bungie wants Destiny to be competitive but the rewards and effort don’t warrant or reward the struggle, I’m wanting to stay positive with the pvp side of things but man it is a struggle

I’ve still been playing recently but it’s more out of the fact that I don’t have any other game or activity to fill the time slot I play Destiny in. It’s especially frustrating because it feels like you’re pigeonholed into running meta load outs. It irks me to no end losing to someone running well/cf/iggy but I’ve ended up maining that loadout due to how strong it is. I feel like a douchebag doing that but I don’t have another solution. The current meta is partly to blame but Trials matchmaking is also a huge issue. 90% of my matches require me to secure 2-3 kills every round, and even then most of the blueberries I get can’t 1v2 the last enemy if I go down. Especially frustrating when it’s a 2 stack lobby and I get 2 players that are very new to Crucible as a whole and the enemy 2 stack are both top 500 players. I think a lot of players are in that boat of just playing destiny simply because it's the constant thing that's in front of their face. And I think most people feel like they have to go with the meta or be punished and unfortunately that is the truth a lot of the time. I was able to somehow hop on my blink warlock after not playing for two months and snag a flawless in a three stack with my friends. But that I mostly attribute to matchmaking luck of not seeing cheaters for most of a card. Definitely relate to the problem of when playing solo it's either "kill them all or lose". Blueberries have no competition with sbmm anymore so they don't develop any skill. Then they walk into trials and get dumpstered. And as I said in the video, solo players are nothing but tools to bungie to fill matches. So they will make us suffer all day with no care as long as it fills that blueberry two stack up!

I'm gonna start by saying that I'm very happy to see that you are back!:) I agree with everything you said in the video and as a solo PvP player myself, I also gave up on PvP these past weeks due to matchmaking, cheaters and other issues… but I've had a LOT of fun in Onslaught! What do you think about this new gamemode?
Hello there, nice to see you! And I have not played it and don't have any plans to. As I said, I have not played a second of the game in 2 months and that includes PvE. I don't care about wasting my time playing a PvE activity to get rewards. And the reason for that is, as a pvp main the rewards I get are in my eyes always seen as "how can I use this in PvP". But as PvP has been mostly butchered nowadays and I get little enjoyment or excitement from it, I have no want to play a PvE mode just to get weapons I don't care about to use in a mode that actively shows it hates me right back. It's all very unfortunate and I wish it wasn't the case but as it sounds like you can relate to, the cheaters and matchmaking have really sapped all the fun out of things.

i can't wait to grind for another godroll that ill use for 2 months then stop playing again.
So far: it's really boring to fight these drawn out matches against bow players and very hard to have fun if someones sweating with a condif or an immortal adept. BUTTTTT blinking is still tons of fun and using a new hand cannon everytime i come back is great. Welcome back sir! hope the game gets better in the final shape tbh.

Good for you taking a break when you're not enjoying your time in game. Recent changes and announcements make me hopeful for the future though

@@RogerBlinks yeah Trials is not in a good state. Though that tends to happen later in the season every single time. Gonna have to wait and see how it plays when TFS launches
Best of luck to you Roger. Our experiences are way different from one another because I play console and don't have to deal with cheaters. I am currently very frustrated with comp and am just waiting for the promised changes to well and bubble. But I'm optimistic and I've seen a lot of real changes from bungie. Prismatic having blink is awesome and I'm hoping for the hunter to get a class item with some astrocyte verse combo.
You probably see a lot more cheaters on console than you even realize abusing external devices, it's very common nowadays sadly. Bungie doesn't get the benefit of my optimism at this point after not changing anything for the better in several years now. Do you not remember how many times they have said they're going to nerf well and bubble? Many times, and yet they are still the easiest crutch option and stay on top. Unless they gut the supers or take away cap points in trials which have no place in the mode then those two will always be the easy go to. And yeah prismatic having blink is great. The only bummer is that most people will ignore that and just use the subclass simply to abuse all the best parts of it.
Lets get an update since they came out with how the class items work. Another failure, sorry, but it's true.
I can’t get a lobby without a cheater on pc or PS5. I’m constantly seeing players with their new steam accounts on private with obvious cheats. Then on PlayStation they have the psn account on private & cronis is always being sold out on many different websites. Can’t just play for fun anymore and it’s sad
Yep exactly this. So many console players are just unaware of how many cheaters there are running around there.
There was a point in D2 when I only played 6v6. Even though I recognised the game had a high skillcap, it was obvious a game like D2 could never be balanced, and thus I had no intention of trying the more competitve modes. The thing that kept me playing was build crafting, experimenting with non-meta exotics and guns. I was happy enough playing the game like this. Unfortunately, when SBMM came along, things got bad very quickly for my playstyle. I was basically forced to play meta or with a lower skilled friend to have any fun in the game. They then lowered the restrictions on SBMM, but the player base also shrunk over the course of this expansion, so basically nothing changed for higher-skill lobbies in 6v6. Now they have changed the matchmaking to "outlier protection" so again, nothing has changed for the higher-skill playerbase. This matchmaking is so strict, at 9pm UK time, im matching with people from the US, Canada and Asia despite there being 90k people online. It's sucks massive dick.
All these restricions and yet bungie DO NOT provide dedicated servers for PvP, they DO NOT provide frequent balancing updates, they DO NOT ban cheaters. THEY DO NOT HOLD UP THEIR END.
Very well said an right on the money. Truly a pathetic showing per usual from bungie and one I hope people remember. As no amount of new content will fix a crumbling infrastructure and piss poor balance.
Honestly triple concentration, slow and clone dodge then osmiomancy with a one and done super along with triple lightning surge will be most likely the dominant builds and possibly kill pvp
Yep and that's the thing with it. We know how destiny players are. Most of them only pick the most crutch abilities and weapons to bridge the divide of actually developing skill. So put some of the crutchiest abilities from several subclasses into one? Yeah I think you're right on the money with what it's gonna look like!

@@taylormorgan3669 Yeah that's how it always goes. People look for the quickest and easiest ways to screw the meta up. And then they beat that horse ten times past death
@@RogerBlinks that’s what makes beating the meta with my builds so fun, I also get a bit of joy when I get rage messages from void titans when I blink past the shield and shotgun them in the back
I play hours of trials comp and crucible and on console I’ve played maybe one cheater in the last month on console! I don’t see cheaters any more.
The only issue I have is SBMM in quick play, I used to run random load-outs to mess around now it’s impossible! I’m a 2.8 kd and every game is within one point sweat fest rough
Yeah the entire point of quick play being the fun casual modes has been killed. Punishing your player base for increasing their skill is an insane choice but it's one they have fully embraced. And the amount of cheaters in PC lobbies is sickening. Still there are a good bit of device users being scummy on console, just much harder to notice it.
@@RogerBlinks yeah I do get the odd aimbot player with 100% headshot accuracy with 900+ kills but not as frequent, my mates on PC say there is a lot on PC which sucks
I stopped playing last sept, came back about 2 weeks ago, ready to quit again. Tedious and boring activities, terrible dev work, reselling me weapons/content ive already completed once if not multiple times at this point, balancing the game so that only "high tier" players and "no touch grassers" can really do anything (sbmm was the ONLY time i had ANY chance in crucible, if your high tier thats what trials is for, go there not casual playlists). The game is literally made to be a time waster, bungie wants you to spend as much time in the game as possible because it is their only up and running IP. TFS will be the end of the destiny franchise and likely the end of bungie as there is ZERO hype for any of their "upcoming" IPs. The destiny franchise has become little more than an over complicated gotcha mobile game, nothing more nothing less.
Saying to go to trials if you're a high tier player is just preposterous. First of all it's a limited time mode so you can't always fall back to it. And secondly they have butchered the modes competitive nature by balancing it and the rest of the sandbox around noobs and blueberries. There is nowhere to turn for true competition in destiny any more because of the changes they have made for low skill players to be happy. And if there is one thing they have been doing that should make you happy it's the big pushes they have made towards valuing player time more so lately. They have been killing so many types of in game currency for things like crafting and are even getting rid of legendary shards. this is all to make the gap of new or lower time investment players closer with players with years in the game. They also drop more loot than ever in every single mode nowadays and you get it with basically no effort. If you can't get plenty out of the game from minimal play time at this point then the problem lies with you my friend. Also destiny 3 is literally being made right now. Sony bought bungie, they are not just going to let that investment die. Destiny will live for many more years.

I see a blink then pheonix dive to charge into the enemies with three threadlings and a solar soul which can be used to counter baracade titans since the soul shoots over and the threadlings will go around it

I just found this vid because I'm also on the verge of leaving due to the exact reasons. Sometimes, I wish I wasn't a slightly above average player bc every 6's match feels like me against the world. I literally spend time making a non meta fun build just to get dominated by the meta and Steriod titans and Warlocks. It sucks as a solo in 2024. Ngl

dude if you ever get bored of the whole moba genre or shooters you have got to try out fighting games.
Getting into them was so awkward and difficult but the community consists of some of the kindest and most competitive players i've ever interacted with. I've never seen so much positive reinforcement from all angles JUST so they can see how far they can push their own abilities through fighting others. Genuinely amazing stuff and you might enjoy something like Guilty Gear Strive thoroughly!
I've never been a fighting game guy really. Played some smash bros when I was younger and had fun there. But the 2-D type fighters are just not my jam. although I can definitely I understand why people enjoy them so much, the skill ceiling seems incredibly high and I'm sure chasing it is a fun time! Smite has a pretty great community honestly. Most people are quite positive and kind so that's been a great breath of fresh air to step into content wise. And moba's are just so much fun to me, especially as smite 2 is entering it's first alpha test this thursday I have a lot to look forward to!
The section on the community is factual. Main reason I stopped playing so much.
Yeah I don't think people can get a good perspective on how toxic it is until they take a step back from it. So instead they just defend it to their last breath.
The only meta gun I use is conditions just because it’s works with my stasis build but outside of that I play every warlock subclass without meta guns although I’ve used guns before they became meta like graviton lance which when they first said it was getting buffed I stuck with it being good while people told me I was wrong then I turned out to be correct but everyone using made me stop
I've always come from a place of wanting nothing but to improve and reach my best that I can in games. And crutch / OP weapons and abilities hold people back from doing that as they fill in the space you would need to use your own skill and play the game for you. Same thing that sbmm ruined the skill curve of new players. Those of us that started back in the day were thrown into mixed lobbies with people of all skill ranges. But fighting through that makes you get better fast and nowadays players just stay low skill instead. There's just no balance of difficulty and "fun" anymore. It's all about suckling the nips of the casual and new player masses and disrespecting the people who really know what needs balancing. As for guns like the graviton I can understand you there. In my opinion if you were already using a weapon or exotic and then it got some random buff that made it all the sudden op then it's not as bad that you use it. Because it was one of your go to and enjoyed weapons after all. But hopping on the band wagon of the weapon simply because it's op is what ruins the game most of the time.
@@RogerBlinks the thing is there are some easy fixes for a lot of these things like cloudstrike which became good due to the handling from the catalyst so just lower that a bit like half or remove it since it would still be good in the meta without the handling buff, stuff like that are easily solved
@@taylormorgan3669 To be honest I am all fine with cloudstrike having good stats. My problem with it is that it can one shot multiple enemies with one headshot. That should never be allowed even if it was a 1m range. A one shot is way too powerful in pvp to ever be mixed with area as well.

I think that's the unfortunate case for most people and that really bums me out. Finding a good substitute whether it be another game or real world hobby is very helpful to keep you entertained until you don't miss it so much!
