I got a used Dark Twin yesterday. First wave had me saying "holy shit, holy shit, I love this board!" Liked it so much I went and bought a new one today. Flows through rail to rail carving like nothing I've ever surfed. Yet, it took very little effort to release tail and flow out of it. I had been riding an NSP Tinder D8. Nothing really wrong with it, but always felt like it was just off for what I needed. This is another world. It's not just the added volume, but the placement of the volume that stands out. It's an easy paddle and duck dives easy. I'm 51, so that matters. Lol. I surfed it in mushy 2' chop. Which is typical here in Florida. But caught every wave I paddled for. It's so fast and flowy, but totally controlled. I think I'm going to sell my Potato-nator and Tinder D8. I can't imagine pulling them out of the rack. It's the board I've been looking for for 30 years.
@@Kelseawaylyn22 Epic post!! Stoked you found a magic sled. Duke is an amazing shaper and the DT is excellent. Duke and I are doing a new board model together called the Supernova. It’s on another level.
The flat earth has a ton of performance packed in the design that’s why it’s recommended to surf it in more liters than your average to help Tone down the performance via extra foam this board will absolutely step your game up as a twin because it’s a whole lot looser in general which forces you to do 2 things 1: put your foot behind the twins versus stepping all the way back on the tail pad like you would on a traditional thruster which stiffens your surf stance and the board encourages you to surf off your rail rather than from your fins if you do your research you will find that the best surfers with the best rail game have mastered the art of surfing of the rails rather than of your fins this helps with finding the fast spots of the wave and assists in your vertical game as well
I was in Oahu recently surfing Rockpiles and Ala Moana Bowls on a smaller day when an incredibly friendly surfer paddled up to me and started chatting me up. He shared some waves with me and I quickly realized it was Akila! Having had the privilege and honor to meet Akila on a mellow summer afternoon like that, and seeing these videos with Duke, the Aipa family really is full of truly incredible individuals! Good hearted and true to their craft. Loved seeing those quick clips of Akila on this latest video….I’ve been looking at a dual core Dark Twinn for a handful of months now…being in SoCal…but now I can’t stop reading about the Flat Earth…I’m torn! But I might have to stick to my original gut and go with the Twinn…for those mushy SoCal days! Tough decision to make but a good one to have. Thanks as always for the exceptional content Noel 🤙🏻
It would be awesome if Eddie was on more shows in the future. It’s cool to see what the bigger guys are riding. I’m pretty much the same height and weight as him so would definitely help me decide what size board I need to get. I’m sure there are lots of other bigger guys in the same boat!
Excellent break down and as close to a test drive of these models as you can give the viewer. I am also the same size as Eddie yet rip slightly less and hearing both of your takes on same boards/same waves is very helpful. Thank you Noel for this edition of surf school: don't judge a book by its cover.
Thank you for having Duke on to clear that up. I have a flat earth and it is my favorite good wave board. I will definitely be looking at the dark twin a couple inches shorter for more of a average surf board.
Hi Salas, First of All hope you are recovering well !! and ...getting into shape for the 2022 winter ;) Would be great to see a comparation between the RocketWide and the Bobby Quad :) would it make sense ????
We all know boards ride differently but can still be awesome boards. Really nice to see you go over two similar boards, but highlighting differences. Did you try the Dark Twinn just as a twin? no trailer? Would like to hear more about how it works just as a twin. (I love how youtube fact checked 'Flat Earth' hahaha)
Hi Noel! So first thanks for all the great info on boards and fins! Im 6.4” 190lbs im 43 iive bin surfing since 14 im on my second ghost 6.2” 32.7liters its a great board first i rode it with jj fins large it was a bit stiff in the turns then i tried jj med that was nice and loose but lacked drive now i got pyzel large my favorite so far (all 3 fin setups) im super interested in your fins and how you think they would go in my ghost anyway thanks again! Ps I’ve watched all your videos 🤘🏾
My fins will keep your board feeling loose with excellent drive. I say get my Neutral template and if your board has 5 fin boxes then get my 5 fins set.
Had an Akila "Modern Twin" and it went mental and had what I call a constant motor pushing the tail ....... can you do a Firewire Slater Designs Tomo "Revo" review?
@@surfnshowreviews7777I’ve been riding 5’10” Revo 2 years now and finally dialed in the fins: H4 Large Sides and Taylor Knox trailer in the back. Here in Mexico going backside and loving the feeling on these waves. Twin fins felt too big too deep for this board for me, quads felt pretty good but the best feelings and waves by far I had was with this combination up to 6-7 feet. When really really small I use the Machado mini rears with H4 Large fronts and this is a lotta fun quick turns, cutbacks, etc. and catch small waves easily. No prob with bit more volume on this board I felt. Hope that helps - been putting in the time on this.
What’s your go to high performance/everyday surfboard shortboard for California? Pyzelian 2, shadow, phantom, sharpeye inferno 72 or maybe even these two in the video?
I like the Driver 2.0, Fever, I72 for HPSB’s in Cali. For Daily’s… Mini Ghost Squash, RW Squash, NB2. Fun Daily boards… Rusty Twin Fin, Storms Twin Turbo, Fishbeard.
@@surfnshowreviews7777 than you for replying. Why not the pyzalien 2 ? I’ve been surfing a 5’3” phantom and want a little more high performance board. @@stevehills5753 in twins I ride it up to about head high with the extra liter than my average because the design of the board is pretty aggressive if the wave is big and slow I’ll tend to throw in a keel but if it’s overhead and punchy then I’ll throw in the stabilizer to help with stability although I have rode it in twins on accident in overhead punchy surf but I felt a lot better with the Aipa twins as they are stiffer and help to stabilize the board with the performance glass

The Dark Twinn thickness says 2 3/8 thick and even though his rails have a lower apex it’s a fuller rail so the volume feels true. The Flat Earth’s rails have a lower apex too but Akila tappers them more to make the board more sensitive and I went up in volume to tone the sensitivity down a little. That’s why I said you can size up 1 stock board size on the Flat Earth.
@@surfnshowreviews7777 it’s a thruster 6’1 90s board but I have crappy plastic fins in it now so I wanted to get some more flex ones that would work good in smaller waves even though I know this board is for head high but I don’t know what fcs 1 fins would be good for that
A buddy of mine told me that he was riding the flat earth in double punchy overhead surf is this accurate? I mean it does have the medium rocker and knifey high performance nose and the wide point in the back? Does this sound doable?
