As a game dev who's used Unreal Engine 4 and 5 I have a little insight. Unreal Engine compiles its material shaders as soon as they're first rendered, putting work on your CPU which is causing the streaming hitching. Once the shaders are compiled the hitching will go away. Lowering graphics settings won't make the hitching go away because the material shaders need to be compiled regardless.
Just played it and had to see other people's reactions to it. It's beautiful! And I love that it's different which keeps it fresh for experienced players.
Tis true! Fortunately I figured out a 2 computer set up for next time! Gonna be epic for launch day! Here's how it looks with the fix! ua-cam.com/video/3rAuWRDqdyg/v-deo.htmlsi=z7TJcSZs0NVnn2_R
Thanks for the video! We've been waiting for so many years, it's finally almost here. While there were countless remastered/remaked versions of Myst, Riven was always ignored for some reason. It looks pretty good as a remake, I think it won't strain the system as much as Firmament (8 GB VRAM wouldn't be enough for Firmament if it didn't have DLSS). I had 2 complaints about the demo: The cutscenes could have been much more impressive if they were made as pre-render rather than with the realtime game engine, as it is, it makes me feel like something is missing. Also, I think there will be bugs similar to those in Firmament; for example, turning DLSS on or off does not make much difference in FPS; in fact, when you turn on DLSS, FPS drops on the contrary! I hope they can make the game a little smoother, especially the bugs, before the game comes out. In my opinion, Riven is the best game in the series, so it deserves the best remake.
In this version the Star Fissure cover looks more like that tawny stone Gehn's throne in the original temple was made from. (Unless that stone actually comprises the gateroom walls)
I played through the original. I noticed they changed the font in Atrus's journal. The D'ni numbering system was interesting it was base 25, and those round symbols on the domes represented colors of the rainbow. When I played MYST III Exile they used a different actress to play Catherine.
Well! I agree at some level about that point of view. I also understand the change. And from just seen Athrus. And the first charatcher how are stealing the book. So is the quality of the models very different. Athrus is very chartonish while the look more like a real person.
enjoy watching you discovering new things in riven, can i suggest try it in low resolution, 1360x768, and lower just a bit the brightness, i know its subjective but it brings some old grainy look and the shadows looks more natural, the unreal graphics are too sharpie. try it
I actually just figured out a way better solution where I can max out the settings as you can see here! Release day stream should look great! ua-cam.com/video/3rAuWRDqdyg/v-deo.htmlsi=arMhhVIdQ_QrZMFs
What the heck? You can open a satchel? I didn't get that prompt at all playing with controller. Also got stuck immediately with the first 'puzzle' (revolving room and wooden door. Darned hatch was so hard too see. Oh, yes you did crawl under in original).. Oh boy.🤭

Just figured out a 2 pc setup with my steam deck! So I'll be able to crank the settings up full blast on release day!
Looking forward to the the full playthrough of this game. Thanks for the demo.
I can’t STAND the change to the opening script. The inflections, the words themselves, it just… it doesn’t set the same mood as the original.

27 minutes in so far and the only puzzle we are working on is the game settings lol. 😝

Can’t watch this bc I don’t want spoilers but commenting to support your Myst content
Great demo. Loved the changes and different progression. Will almost feel like a new game but still lovingly familiar

a different actress? thats scandalous
@@TizerisT.Because she died though
it's not a font, someone (Claire at Cyan) HAND WROTE THE JOURNALS, CAN YOU BELIEVE IT
Looks beautiful! I understand gripes about the cgi characters though. I miss FMV actors. 😊 I wish games brought that back somehow.

Agree. The weirdest thing is the lack of eye contact when facing away

Wait which hatch do you mean?
@@henrywalton5967 the wooden door below rotating chamber. Probably called a hinge and not a hatch .. 😅
