I've sessional difficult, technical sections, for years. but I don't have to session or practice all skills or most of them to be able to ride anymore, but the hard stuff I work on.
I think Strava does kill sessioning. As a kid growing up on dirt jumps, sessioning is effectively what we did because that's all that we had. That led to all kinds of creativity - contests to see who could jump the farthest, highest, dumbest; different lines and lips, etc. But I don't think that's what most people do. Whenever I go ride a new system or network (which fortunately are everywhere in my area now - thanks Waltons!), folks I ride with treat the ride like a roller coaster, with pre-designed start and end points. However, if I ask to stop and repeat a feature until I get it good, we all undoubtedly improve significantly and have a great time. I also rarely use Strava these days, mostly because it's too big of a hassle to get phone out of pack and take gloves off and usually someone I ride with will track so I get a feel for my effort from them. Anyways, tl:dr, I do think Strava vs sessioning is an either/or. However, if doing it either way gets you riding, that's a win.

@@StravaigingMTB We're doing as well as can be expected during these times, and maybe even a little better than that.
Definitely don’t session as much as I should. My local is perfect for session if so I have now excuse! Must session features more!
After a HT it's the next best thing for improving your riding especially during winter when its shite anyways.
Just got in from a quick hour or so sessioning in the local woods
Best thing to do this time of year isn't it!
@@StravaigingMTB hard frost made a great change from the mud, dropper cable frozen up, managed to get it to stick down for the ride.
Strava does not control me, or any app or device.😀
