Interviewer: why don't more people play Clarinet in jazz?
Paquito: "because its a lot easier to play a soprano sax, totally out of tune and the people will think you're cute!" I love Paquito sense of humor its truth too. Much love for the legend Paquito D'Riviera
The clarinet is the toughest instrument to play, l can be for days without my saxophone and as long as l practice my clarinet l am fine. I cannot do that the other way around.
I fell ya maine. When I take days off the Clarinet it shows
I am a guitar player but I have always loved the clarinet. I just bought one - along with a trumpet - two days ago. Be thankful that you are not my neighbour lol
Hey! If they want to hear me play guitar and piano for free - they will have to put up with the clarinet and the trumpet.
One of my sax heroes right there, RESPECT to Paquito. I play sax and gave the clarinet a try.....SOOOO difficult, now trying Flute instead. Would love to be a doubler.
Paquito is so incredibly simpatico, besides being such a talent! I love his playing. Besides jazz, classical and latino he is one of the ablest "choro" (a Brazilian style) player. It is a feast to watch him talking about music and instruments.
Paquito is such a cool guy 😎👍🏼
Yes, he is!
Oh, how nice guy hi is! Allways telling those funny things. Such a great musician! What's the piece he plays, by the way? Muppet theme, mana mana, no it isn't
the first piece on the rossi clarinet is Spanish Flea - Herb Alpert did a version, then he throws in a quote of Salt Peanuts, the Dizzy Gillespie bebop tune. Then on the metal clarinet I think he's just noodling ....
What kind of clarinet system and configuration is that? I couldn't understand the accent and am new.
Full Boehm
Fantastico Paquito! I've only just discovered this video, but listened with deep respect for all that you say, and how beautifully you play!
