I recommend Alice's book "Violence Girl" for all The Bags fans out there. It was cool reading for me because she haunted the same places in the 1970s that I did in the 1990s here in Southern California. Lovell's Records in Uptown Whittier, which is still there. Tower Records in Hollywood, which is not. The cities of Montebello, Pico Rivera, and famous rock venues in Hollywood like the Whiskey, Troubadour, and the Palladium. A local daughter done good.
Her voice and the sound are great reminds me of the punk band penetration from the 70s songs like don't dictate danger signs shout above the noise and many more 👏👏👏👏🇬🇧
alice_bagQ: Can you provide any context behind the songs “Prowlers” and “Gluttony” ? Were they responses to anything going on socially/politically? Alice: Both of those songs were written by my guitarist, Craig Lee. I think they are very intimate glimpses into how he saw his lifestyle. In the late '70s Craig was getting into the gay bathhouse scene. In the song, 'Prowlers In The Night,' he is prowling for sex, while at the same time suppressing a desire for romance and more permanent relationships. Here are some of the lyrics: These people are longing, they keep disappearing Their secrets are turning thinner than air Wanting romance but knowing it's stupid You peel off the lid to see what is there Prowlers in the night Ready for the kiss-off, then the bite There is a light on, hidden reactions The words whispered say, 'kiss or fist?' No easy answers to unsolved questions A string of opportunities missed Prowlers in the night Ready for the kiss off, then the bite...
It is a crime against inhumanity that this song has no Cd release, as far as I know. At least there is some solace in knowing that Gluttony is available on the DOWC soundtrack CD. Do I really need to get a damn record player to own a copy of this song?
My two favorite songs from "Western Civilization"- this and Catholic Discipline's "Barbi Doll lust"- are NOT on the sound track! (The film version of "prowlers" reminds me of early Siouxie...)
BEENGONE People are longing, they keep disappearing Their secrets are turning thinner than air Watching your basket, knowing it's stupid You lift up the box lid to see what you can Prowlers in the night Ready for the kiss-off, than the fight There is a light on of hidden reaction The words mean to say, kiss or fist? No easy answers to unsolved questions A string of opportunities missed Prowlers in the night Ready for the kiss off, than the fight Laugh if you're able, they all die slow Suicide reasons are stupid excuses Everyone's saying there's no where to go Prowlers in the night Ready for the kiss off, than the bite
Came here after the Decline of Western Civilization
That's 🔥
