I have had a speech impediment ever since I was little. I went through speech therapy for many years when I was in school. The problem is I never absorbed any of the techniques I was taught. Lately my speech has been really bad, and watching this video helped me understand that I don’t have to talk super fast, and focus on what I want to say instead of focusing on something else.

One person below commented: "I thought this was going to be about driving". Little did he realize...it is. I drive an unrestored 90 year old pickup truck. It doesn't go real fast. I must plan every turn, and every stop, and every other maneuver. I do drive the speed limit, but usually I drive a little bit slower. I've seen plenty of fingers and angry people. I see them often...the same drivers...at each stop light...for many miles. They get so frustrated that we are at the traffic light together, again, or that I sometimes pass them up, again. Planning my (driving) work gets me to the same goal as most of the other drivers, but I do it at a more relaxed pace, and I save more fuel, and I don't need brake jobs as often. You see, it is about driving..and the driving is an analogy for how we move forward though life. Thanks for presenting this great talk. I'm in.

I am gonna go slow and try to chew on this information through this reflective summary:
Why go faster? To be more stressed, to be overwhelmed and have less focus? because that is what ultimately happens. We become more disenganged, less focused and eventually, less productive.
It has become a widespread infection to wear the badge of being busy, sometimes even making things up if we werent.
It is time to go slower, to leave a place for grace. And in that place, intuition will be a helpful guide, and the ability of experiencing the present moment.
There are four experiments that will push us towards being more graceful.
1- Make a weekly plan. This sets your focus on what needs attention so that what isnt on the plan, is probably not a priority. "Leaving space and time for the magic to happen"
2- Meditation. giving time for slowing down and practice attention to notice and utilize inspiration, intuition, intention
3- daily journaling. This is great to keep track of patterns of pace and adjusting accordingly
4- disconnecting from technology. We have been inundated with information to where we dont even process most of what we see and hear. It is practically time spent "busy"
    Take home message:
If rushing has brought you nothing but stress and a lack of focus, engagement and productivity, It is time to change things up. Go Slow to go Fast.
May your life be full of grace and true productivity so that you are fulfilled by what you do and do what matters to you.

As someone with ADHD, this is life-changing advice. I watched Kimi Werner's video about slowing down first. I highly recommend watching her TEDTalk about slowing down as well. It's very inspiring.
But wow, yeah, slow down. Think about what you're doing. Take time between tasks to sit down and think about whether you're attending to your priorities. Think about how you will do the task. That takes 2-3 minutes.

  • @ytchannel-howtooutgrowstutteri

Great video! I agree with the video that slowing down speech could help outgrow stuttering. The positive effect is that speaking slower makes you feel more comfortable, whereas other people who speak slower have more time to double down on doubt to say a feared letter which means that 'confidence that you can move articulators during a speech block' helps in outgrowing stuttering

I had a mentor who advised me to always slow down when faced with an important decision or when taking on a new role in an unfamiliar environment or when in a tense-filled exchange. Rushing forward in every situation is not always wise. Quieting the tongue and opening up the ears makes decision making easier when I intentionally slow down. Unfortunately, I can't handle driving slowly. I have a need for speed when I'm in a car. 😎

At 13:40 You show your 'List of Intentions'. I noticed that the list isn't really tangible, so there is nothing to measure success by, other than an overall 'feeling'. Was it your intention to remain somewhat ambiguous on this list? I'm very familiar with ISO regulations in industry, and one of the main goals of ISO-9000 to is plan your work (this is in line with your teachings), and to have tangible goals so that achievements can be quantified and measured. This is my background, and I apologize if it seems to contradict part of your program (which, by the way, was fantastic and enjoyable. I'm in).
