    Contentment breeds happiness.
    Inner peace begins the moment you choose not to let another person or event control your emotions.

    The one concept which hit me the most was when he stated that comparing your own experiences with others might decreases the quality of your experiences, past or present. Therefore have some self awareness not to compare for it is ever harder not to compare today when social media is all around us. Instead of comparing we should try to celebrate their awesome experiences with them by being genuinely expressing excitement, gladness, or any positive emotion that we can feel from their experiences. Statement like "wow that's awesome, I'm really exited for you" or "knowing that you are having a good time makes me really happy" are the words that can evoke genuine happiness within us from other's experiences.

    I think the key to success in mindfulness is to learn how to concentrate better. I think the idea of meditation turns a lot of people off to mindfulness because they feel they'll have a hard time learning how to meditate. Concentrate on the present moment is the key.

    I heard a saying a while back which sums this up quite well. “If you’re living in the past, you’re depressed, If you’re living in the future you’re anxious, if you’re living in the now you’re happy”

      Hey Wolf, thanks a ton for your comment! I really needed to read something like that. I haven't watched the video yet, so I can't say anything about it. I usually check the comments before watching, you know, too many clickbait videos out there. Especially if I've already read about it on the content websites I follow.
      But your comment really hit me hard because it's so true. Things have been tough, and I need to focus on the present, not dwell on the past or feel guilty. Thanks again for that. I wrote it down in my journal, and I just wanted to reach out and let you know how much I appreciate it.

    I have always struggled to keep my focus while trying to meditate and have searched for the rational for the utility of the process. This video answered that question for me. I now understand that the importance of being in the present and how I can practice that through meditation. Thanks Barry for this simple yet powerful insight which I will apply in my life.

      Another tip for those who struggle is to count the pause after the exhale from 1 to 10. It greatly helps me when i was starting. Just whenever after you exhale there is a mini pause of your breathing then count to 1, then the next after exhale count to 2, then so on until you get 10 breaths and begin again to 1. The funny thing is, sometimes i continue after 10 and says 11 but then i will caught my mind wondering so i’ ll orient my mind again to 1.

      Because the ego is constantly unsatisfied. It always wants more and is focused on ways it can get it. The ego cannot accept the present moment as it is. That's where mindfulness comes in. You let those thoughts and feelings come and go and live mindfully in the present moment. Focus on making the here and now the best experience possible.

    This is the first time I've heard an intelligible clarification ... I don't have to sit like a pretzel, the mind-wandering issue is factored into the process, and the use of the 'relaxation-response' is a well-known path to constructive self-hypnosis ... or at least, deep relaxation!
    Amazingly, I've come to the same understandings on my own, putting into practice sporadically but increasingly ... only took 5 1/2 decades! :D
    Makes me feel better about the advice I've given other people!

    Meditation is all the rave right now, but is Meditation all it's stacked up to be? I understand and agree wholeheartedly that the utilization of the frontal cortex can and does shut the negative thinking of the limbic zone up through having faith in our sane minds rather than the insanity of our limbic minds, and it does guide us in achieving the things we want in life. But how does Mindfulness aid us in the pursuit of happiness? I am trying to understand how the two fit. Given the two pursuits, I'd rather spend my time in Visualizing a Renewed, Updated Self-Image of Me than watching my breath. Seems like a red herring, that's all. I'm not one to do a thing, because I'm told; I need to be persuaded..... But yes, I like you, and thank you for this opportunity to speak.

      I think it's mainly about putting that buffer in there between you and your thoughts so that you aren't consumed by them. For a lot of people, being able to recognize useless thoughts and triage them out is a good way to be happier.

      this seems to me so old school ,and you r right , i ve concluded that for ex being in the now is not good ..in fact one should take an x ammount n time (past present future) and see how the energy moves and see the xonsequence of his actions IN TIME
      the bein in the now is a momentary thing i d call FEEL YOUR BODY and thats all it is,but you dont do it with your mind (or w/o it) you just enhance the feeling ..your heart first o all ,latryou may develop a body feeling the body feeling

    • @nanadelamer6277
      @nanadelamer6277 6 років тому +3

      there is only one premise for hapyness and that is to not do the things you dont like (and do the things you like)the Self wants to express itSelf and thats all there is to it
      what i ve realised abt meditation is that everything i knew was wrong or misunderstood Even if the teacher/yoghi expresses his experience with the right words you are not in the position to get it bcoz is experiential ,noone can explain how an apple tastes...and they are not leading you to the apple(especially in d west) ..they tell you how it tastes..well is hard to imagine the taste of something Thats precisely why there are so many different methods to the path.
      What i mean is that calming the mind is not something you do but the result of something you do is that the mind calms That result is faster/deeper achieved with other ways..say extreme sports , engaging in life fully , loving someone very much ,etc
      meditation can be a small step forward though and i m gratefull for that

      The thing that you develop with meditation, but not necessarily with conscious creation, is neutrality. Neutrality, or equanimity is a super power when it comes to being able to see and know the truth, to heal and to become more balanced. It's not about shutting something out. Its about seeing and accepting.

    Trump makes all our lives VUCA. Nothing is more sure than change, but I find that my feeling of lack of control in the face of a disturbed person who can wreck our lives brings out the reactivity in me and I turn to Twitter myself hoping to convince the president to pull himself together. I was seldom like this before.

    And i tried to read the power of now
    A lot of it seemed like nonsense
    Have you ever met someone who lived there lives in the present moment?
    Seems they wouldn't get anywhere without a powerful reflection on the past and planning for the future

    • @chrismacfly6122
      @chrismacfly6122 3 місяці тому

      Well you're not doing it all the time, you obviously have to reflect as well as plan. You're missing the point. Living and being in the moment is about discipline and controlling yourself so that you enjoy the here and now because we are... here.... now. It makes you more present and you in fact are living and being better.
