Great job brother . It's refreshing to see a young man doing work outside and figuring out how to do work for their self. Your parents have got to be proud of you

Just FYI, that "old finish" you're sanding off, is anodizing - a hard aluminum oxide layer. It protects the aluminum from corrosion. Without the anodizing, the aluminum will be softer and more prone to splotchy oxidation, so it's a really good idea to clear-coat it after you polish it. 2K Clear is the best. If you don't clear-coat it, you'll have crappy-looking trim soon. An easy way to remove anodizing, is to use Easy-Off oven cleaner. It eats it in seconds. You can also get a cheap, cotton buffing wheel (or two) that fits on a drill, at Harbor Freight, along with some polishing compound. You won't believe how shiny you can make stuff. Keep having fun and, as EC says, keep up the good work.

Good advice for the young lad I’m sure he’ll take all the knowledge he can get I’m actually using oven cleaner metal polish and cotton pad This afternoon. That is the best way I found. sanding will do the job. Oven cleaner is a lot easier. It does the same thing.

Great channel, Dude. Keep making these videos. This is really useful information and you're good at explaining details. Not every content maker is good at communicating. It's fun to watch some guys do "BIG" and dramatic projects - but it's the small stuff that most DIY people like me need to know in everyday life. Stuff we need done in our garage. Keep making that "News We Can Use". Good luck, Champ!

The video was made a year ago, how does trim look now? One comment below said it would look crappy soon ... does it?

It still looks good but I don’t have it on a truck yet so it’s just sitting in my shed I don’t know how it would look if it was out in the weather

p.s. considering wearing gloves. If you have even a small cut on your finger, you don't want those chemicals getting in your blood. That's no good for nobody.

Put on some gloves unless you want to forget your name in a few years.
