As a woman who usually travels to train abroad alone... I just have to say you simply cannot be too careful- even around people you may think you know in one setting, they can be totally different in another. So, do your due diligence and check out the people, location and escape plans, don't do anything stupid, and plan for any possible contingency you can think of including if necessary just walking away from a situation. Have a plan B and C lined up... . Travel safe everyone!

      Wise words here.
I agree. Communal living can turn into bullying very quickly, particularly if you are easy going and not watching carefully.

Thank you so much, Paul! I'm always glad to see you even on the screen.🤝I'm just about to go on a trip, these are really valuable tips from Soke, I always follow them, especially since I travel with my wife... 😅
The guys from Belarus will be in Japan soon, I’m sure you’ll have a great workout together. 🥷

Thank you so much for covering really important and somewhat challenging subjects with humor. I am so glad this is being talked about openly. When one is traveling alone, one can be more vulnerable to those proclivities of others. Hopefully your caring and wisdom will help people not be blindsided if they encounter something similar. I think it’s more common than people realize.
I used to teach seminars with my partner many years ago and traveled all over the country and was shocked at how many times we were propositioned or put in very awkward situations by people we encountered involved with the seminar which we then had to figure out how to politely but firmly decline. Had I been traveling alone as a woman instead of with my male partner, things would have been much worse.
Not to get too out there, but I feel that those who practice martial arts can have certain appetites and energies attracted to them and try to use them for good or ill, especially if internal work or good hearts or taking an honest look at one’s shadow is not being done to prevent ingress past someone’s defenses. And also one’s own baggage can get amplified. This is of course not limited to martial arts, but seems to happen in environments were higher energy is worked with regularly or as a practice.

I would say that even in your own neighbornhood you should aways stays vigilant.
When i was younger someone invited me to a party that i refused and later i discovered that the he had planed to fight another guy and expected me to get along and help him because he knew i had training.
This also happened in my family, when someone asked me to help with removing furniture from a apartment due to a divorce and it turned bad to the point i had to disarm a man wielding a machete, anyone could help carrying weight but the person choose to aks for my help knowing that i would have to interfere.
Some problems you can avoid, others you have to face and do your best to avoid the worst.
If you have the oportunity, tell Soke that his teachings helped-me to save at least 3 lives and protected me for 10 years working as bouncer in clubs without any hurt except a little cut in one finger while removing a broken glass from someone during a fight.
    Greetings from Brazil.

Your editing is friggin' awesome, bro. Still can't believe the first story... that must have been awkward as hell.
I have been in some foreign countries and cities. There was one incident and to be honest, it was my fault for having lost attention and awareness of my surroundings for once, when people tried to snatch my wallet out of my pocket in Paris.

Gday Paul,I have a honey pot story but not my mates wife or a swinger situation. An attractive bar tender chick worked at my local pub where I drank regularly when I was younger being a bricklayer getting thirsty. She poured me beers for free being very flirtatious. Not these days.Apparently she had a hardass fella in jail.1 of my mates knew of her & told me to back off.So I did but she didn’t like the cold shoulder much as the whole thing was going somewhere.A few weeks later she had gotten into a new bouncers ear about me and he got sucked in by her.Next thing I’m nose to nose with this idiot having words & gets broken up.after a few times same thing happening he goes in 1 door, comes out the other and king hits me from behind curling my lip over my tooth.Never been knocked out in my life Paul & it come from a dog shot I wasn’t ready for.I was only out for a few seconds & jumped straight up as soon as hands touched my back when I was on the ground.I realised what happened when I felt my lip.The pub owners hid him out the back in the keg room and coz I was out of it and he wasn’t there,I was accusing everyone & anyone who I knew and I was mates with most of em.I’ve never taken bait from the honey pot since. He was never sacked and kept his job.I got barred whitch is totally ridiculous and probably should have taken up the chance with all the witnesses who rang me the next day offering me to come to court as witnesses .I’m not into during people even if it wasn’t my fault.I looked at it like,I’ve got all my teeth still,I’m at work pushing barrows, making mud & laying bricks so I’m ok.Hope you & family is well Paul 🇦🇺
